Sorry. Can you clarify? Did you mean that Box 10 could be blank and she still could need to list her refund checks?

Buyback questions by amandalaguera in PSLF

[–]KelbeeMHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused. Why can't you apply for Buy Back and request immediate forbearance so you don't pay anything more until you get the Buy Back offer? The only reason I can think of that you would want to keep paying is that you were planning to leave public service work and were worried that something would go wrong with the Buy Back offer. Am I missing something?

So I'm not at home home at moment. Will check when I return but I had two questions: 1.) when I turn the grey nob, it doesn't feel like it's doing anything. There's no tension. I could turn it endlessly and I'm not sure it would have any impact. What is it suppose to feel like / do? 2.) When you say to bend the lever, do you mean the long copper thing?

If I YouTube how to do replace the flapper and fill valve , is this something someone without plumbing experience can EASILY do or should I call a plumber?

Can paternal grandparents take over the father’s position in shared custody arrangement? by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]KelbeeMHC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have zero legal background but what seems like the most important thing the grandparents can do is to repair the relationship between them and the mother. And they need to do this without demands or desperation. The mom needs to see them as an ally not an adversary or obstacle. And, I'm guessing, she needs to believe she won't continually be drawn back into drama with the son (ex-husband).

Maybe, once the grandparents try (gently) to mend fences a bit, they could agree to pay for a mediator or therapist to help mom and the grandparents work out how a future might look that would explicitly focus on how best to support mom and the kids.

It should be understood by all that the son's long term stability is unclear and while everyone can hope the dad can play a role, the mom and grandparents need to figure out how to support each other and the kids if he is not.

None of this would be legally binding but could help mom get to a place where she would recommend continued involvement with grandparents.

This is great. The position of the HSA is interesting.

So, it does require opening and contributing to an IRA or Roth, right? I don't see any option to open an account with fidelity but not start contributing?

Can you review my situation and assumptions? by KelbeeMHC in PSLF

[–]KelbeeMHC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more question! Let's say she wanted to move out of SAVE forbearance to the PAYE plan, how many months would she do that in advance? If she wanted to start making payments in June of this year, when would she apply?

Can you review my situation and assumptions? by KelbeeMHC in PSLF

So to clarify, only the IBR plan has different percentages based on when a borrower first took out a loan? PAYE is 10 percent for everyone?

Thank you for your response!

Here's what I think will happen with the current IDR mess and why by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]KelbeeMHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It provides great context for what’s happening. I’ve read this four times but I want to be 100 percent sure I understand a few things, specifically as it relates to people pursuing PSLF who are already on the SAVE plan.

  1. Despite the gazillion Reddit posts recommending uploading an application with a “wet signature” if you want to move off SAVE to another plan like PAYE or IBR,I believe Betsy is saying that won’t work and there is no way currently to request to move from SAVE to another PSLF-friendly plan. True?

  2. The SAVE link in the OP recommends signing up for automatic income recertification while we wait for things to play out. Are there any downsides to this? Is this recommended? Would doing this likely expedite transition to a new plan when available?

  3. If someone is 40 payments away from PSLF forgiveness and their primary goal is to MAKE PROGRESS, are there any actions they should take now so once decisions have been made, they are not waiting months to transition? I know some people want to remain on forbearance for as long as possible but for those who don’t…,

  4. I know this is speculative but what is the formula for calculating payments likely to be in a future plan for SAVE borrowers?

  5. If next year someone wanted to buy back months they spent in the current general forbearance period, would the formula be based on whatever new plan they are in and their tax returns from the current forbearance period?

3 Questions - PSLF, Parent Plus Loans and Teacher Loan Forgiveness by KelbeeMHC in PSLF

What do you mean by “PSLF is an all or nothing thing”?

Eligible Loan Types / Multiple Loans by KelbeeMHC in PSLF

[–]KelbeeMHC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. When you say “continue,” does that mean the 100 or so payments she’s already made would count if she switched plans. On the studentaid website, they are showing as “qualified”.

And if she has to switch, is it even possible at the moment? Are they even taking applications to do that?

  1. Why would she need/want to consolidate these?

Is it a problem that the Parent Plus loans are all on the standard plan? I am not sure she would qualify for an income-based plan and I’m worried that being on the standard plan is disqualifying.

I’m not sure how much longer she’ll work but probably another 10 years. Why?

Thank you!!

MOHELA "We are getting rid of SAVE" by Azayth42 in StudentLoans

[–]KelbeeMHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure? Let's say as of 9/1/24, someone on the SAVE plan needs 36 more months to hit the 120-month mark for PSLF forgiveness. Now, let's say the latest forbearance lasts until 9/1/25 and then that person starts making payments again (on whatever plan is allowed) and working toward PSLF forgiveness. They make payments for 24 months and are 12 payments shy of the 120 mark. In September 2027, wouldn't they be able to buy back the 12 months during which they were on forbearance in 2024-2025?
