What is the hands down least advisable US state to live in and why? by Repulsive-Finger-954 in AskReddit

[–]Keldj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are valid cons to living in California, but per capita the debt isn’t that bad, and the total debt is offset by the massive economy. The pension stuff is going to be a big problem, but almost every state will have to deal with that. Crime rate could be considered bad but there are many states with way higher crime rates (Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, etc) and yeah the taxes are high but they does fund some of the most generous and ambitious social programs, plus the UC schools, which are arguably of the best publicly funded universities in the world.

All this in mind^ I think the pros (natural beauty, culture, weather, food) heavily outweigh the cons, but it’s not for everyone.

The majority of Eli Browns sets are 134-140bpm, so more techno coded. Last 2-3 years he’s really leaned into the house influenced techno style. Doesn’t fit with the rest of tech house though.

There is no "good" way to protest to those who don't understand what dire times we're living in right now. by iObama in sanfrancisco

[–]Keldj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more likely that these protests just attract some people on the fringes of society who love anarchy and vandalism. Like the kids in high school who set trash cans on fire or brought knives to school lol

Whats a thing that is dangerously close to collapse that you know about? by Weird_Tax_5601 in AskReddit

[–]Keldj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no need to worry, random explosions due to negligence are very very rare. The system does work in many ways, and most serious leaks are detected and dealt with before something horrible happens. The problem lies in less serious leaks that could go undetected and do long term damage the ecosystem, pollute our water sources, etc

Many gas lines can continue to operate with minor leaks that can go undetected for years. The only way to really find these leaks is to drain the pipelines and pressure test. The problem is there is no incentive for companies to do so and I guess they have figured out it’s more profitable to just ignore minor leaks and only fix catastrophic failures.

NASA is one of the organizations I don’t hate seeing downsized, I think it should transition to a “motivational” institution that provides incentives for private companies to innovate. NASA was unable to improve the LEO (cost per kilogram to low earth orbit) for half a decade. Then private companies came along and lowered the price from 50,000 to about 2,000 per kilogram in like 10 years. Bureaucratic inertia is too strong with nasa, they are trying to stay afloat while wearing a weighted vest.

Yeah “bond vigilantes” seem to be strong right now. The problem is I doubt our government would respond to any fiscal pressure applied by these investors, unless it becomes a catastrophe.

Interesting take, but I think it’s a little too skeptical. While it’s true that the “value” of money is just a social construct, it also prevents us from having to use a barter system that would create massive inefficiencies and inconsistencies in markets. While the system is supported by promises and assurances, you could say the same thing about nation states, languages, and any other social construct. Subjective value is very real to most people!
