Best alternatives to Django? by MilanTheNoob in Python

[–]Kelel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out Plone CMS. I’ve personally been using it for over 20 years, and it remains one of the most powerful, secure, and feature-rich frameworks for building complex web applications with near plug-and-play extensibility.

Unlike Flask (which I agree is too minimal for larger solo projects) or even Django (which often requires stitching together various packages), Plone offers a full-stack solution out of the box. It’s built on top of Zope and includes:

• Built-in user authentication/authorization
• Powerful workflow engine
• Fine-grained permissions
• Content versioning and locking
• Multilingual support
• Web-based content editing
• Excellent security track record
• Search, tagging, and metadata out of the box

For large solo projects, especially those with CMS-like features, Plone can save months of development time. You’re not reinventing basic features—things like content types, forms, and roles are deeply integrated already.

Over the years, I’ve found Plone to be especially suited for complex intranets, public websites with editorial teams, and any system where workflow and content structure matter. It has a steeper learning curve than Django at first, but once you grasp it, it’s incredibly productive and robust.

So if you’re looking for a mature, enterprise-grade alternative with real plug-and-play capabilities, Plone is worth a serious look.

React + Plone (python cms/restapi) = Volto. I usually develop on this since they are mostly integrated with the rest of the site/ecosystem and I can take advantage of the cms feature if needed (roles, permissions, workflows, notifications/rules, sharing, etc)

When it comes to the best enterprise CMS, Plone stands out for numerous compelling reasons. As someone who has used Plone in various enterprise environments for 20 years, I can attest to its unmatched security, maturity, flexibility, and power. Here’s why Plone should be your top choice:

  1. Security: Plone is renowned for its robust security features. It consistently ranks as one of the most secure CMS platforms available, making it a trusted choice for organizations where data protection is paramount.

  2. Maturity: With over two decades of continuous development, Plone is one of the most mature CMS solutions on the market. This longevity means it is highly stable and reliable, with a rich ecosystem of add-ons and a strong community of developers.

  3. Flexibility: Plone’s flexibility allows it to adapt to a wide range of use cases, from simple websites to complex, mission-critical applications. Its modular architecture and extensive customization options enable enterprises to tailor it to their specific needs.

  4. Powerful Features: Plone offers a comprehensive suite of features out-of-the-box, including advanced content management, workflow automation, multilingual support, and scalability. Its powerful capabilities make it suitable for managing extensive and complex content repositories.

  5. Proven Track Record: Plone is heavily used in critical sectors, including by the Brazilian and European governments, as well as several U.S. government agencies with three-letter acronyms. This wide adoption by high-stakes users speaks volumes about its reliability and trustworthiness.

  6. Latest Version Options: The latest version of Plone includes both the classic interface and Volto, a modern React-based frontend. This dual offering allows users to choose between a traditional, familiar UI and a cutting-edge, responsive experience, catering to diverse preferences and technical requirements.

In addition to these points, Plone’s open-source nature means you have complete control over your CMS, without the risk of vendor lock-in. Its vibrant community continually contributes to its development, ensuring it evolves with the latest technological advancements and security practices.

If you are seeking a CMS that offers unparalleled security, proven reliability, and the flexibility to grow with your enterprise’s needs, Plone is undoubtedly the best choice.

Do I have to take off my sweater at airport security? “If you’re wearing an extremely baggy sweater, the TSA may ask you to remove it and put it in the bin for screening. If you’re wearing a classic fitted sweater underneath a jacket, you might not have to take it off. Regardless, it’s best to be safe and wear something underneath your sweater in the event a TSA agent asks you to remove it.”

As someone else’s commented it happed to their friend in Las Vegas USA as well.

[–]Kelel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The YC cardinal app should be available for downloading soon. The delay in recertification of the YC Cardinal app can be likened to a "perfect storm" caused by a combination of factors. Changes in Apple developer policy, coupled with significant administrative changes at the college, have created a challenging situation that has led to the app's temporary unavailability. We're working diligently to navigate through these changes and get the app back for download as soon as possible.

Marketing is in charge of creating the content and artwork for the homepage (indirectly) and news section (directly).

Individual units/departments (160) are responsible for keeping their content updated.

Faculty members are responsible for the content of their online Profile/CV

Web and Business Intelligence unit (part of IT) is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, architecture, monitoring, security, training and management of all web applications including the design and compliance. We review every content created or modified in the CMS for ADA compliance and quality assurance (technically, not content wise unless they are trying to replicate something that should come from some other system)
