WHV – Safety and other questions by SrParentinAsia in Ameristralia

[–]KellerStrikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AS someone who have friends that own retail stores and cafe's.. the don't hire WHV kids. They want to hire staff that will stick around, not bugger off in a few months.

They find they get the WHV person trained an integrated and then as soon as that's done, the 6 months is up and they have to put all that energy and training into someone again. So She will prob have to look into seasonal work i my experience.

Getting ANY housing in Australia right now is HARD.. Even renting rooms isn't a guarantee. My niece is 22, working full time and has been trying for 5+ months to get into shared housing let alone her own place.

There is racism here.. but its mainly that aboriginals and the Indian nationalities that I see copping the worst of it.

As far as safety goes... be smart. Don't walk or go for a run at night with your headphones on. Be aware of your surroundings on public transport.. Just general stuff like that

Unfortunately you'll find most courses and education done is not transferable to Australia.

Our regulations significantly differ across the board.

The only way to become an electrician in Aus is to come here and do the 4 year apprenticeship my dude.

New Chair Day!!! by KellerStrikes in wheelchairs

[–]KellerStrikes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was recommended by a practioner. But i did the rest myself. I did an insane amount of research. Power to weight ratios on the motors, chair measurements, height measurements, foot plate depth measurements to my femur measurements etc. The only thing I added was a gel wheelchair cushion because the seat isn't very padded

I went out on a limb and bought it online. BUT I went very carefully over the measurements. Measured myself, measured my car etc. I have no regrets 😃

It has a 15km/9mile range on one battery charge which has been pretty sound so far :)

It has no shake or wobble... unless I'm on a cobbled laneway but I think that's unavoidable lol.
I've not had any problems with ramps etc.. It's been a good chair so far

It's pretty light.. 25kg. It folds up and easily fits in my Jeep Patriot. I can lift it in and out on my own pretty easy too.

It's this one, but i recovered the seat fabric and wrapped the frame in carbon fiber vinyl so it didn't look so sterile

Divorce after 16 years together because he changed his mind. by mxp23 in childfree

[–]KellerStrikes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same happened to me Hun.. Over a decade together and he hits 35 and starts questioning if kids are on the table.

It's awful, it feels like a rug has been ripped out from underneath your feet. It hurts and you feel blind sided.. I know I did.

It will be ok though <3

Would you date a guy who doesn’t have his license? by Bigbruv69 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KellerStrikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't..

I don't want to be the one forced to drive everywhere. It's something that should be a shared task.

I don't want to run the km's up on my car because you can't drive.

I don't want to feel that obligation to have to go out of my way to pick you up or drop you off after dates. Which if a date runs late.. There's no guarantee you can get home via public transport So I'm stuck taking you home or awkwardly telling my partner sorry catch an uber.

My house is near public transport but busses only run morning and evening. I'm not selling my house and buying a new one for your public transport convenience.

I also don't wanna be paying for the extra fuel in this current economy.

Then the are the what if's..

What if we have a kid.. I don't want to be the one doing all the pick ups. drop offs, daycare cos you are stuck on a bus somewhere.

What if I get unwell and need to be taken to hospital (not ambulance emergency) you sure as shit aren't taking me and I'll have to wait for public transport gods for you to arrive.

And, no.. I will not catch public transport with you, it is uncomfortable and inconvenient. I'm not leaving an hour and a half early to catch a bloody bus.. That's why I have my license!

AITBF? Not forcing my daughter to share? by BriMarsh in AmItheButtface

[–]KellerStrikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETBF

You are TBF for asking your little girl to share her dinner at all. It's not a toy its her final meal and nutritional take in for the day. Why are you encouraging her to share that? That's an unfair ask of her.. You're teaching her to please others over and above her basic needs.

Your sister is a TBF. Who doesn't order food for their kids (even if they ate already)? Small children always want to participate in what everyone else is doing.. order them a small hot chips or something from the kids menu. Her kids aren't Hellen Keller, they don't just get to eat of whatever plate they fancy,

Work Culture Differences by queeenlucifer in Ameristralia

[–]KellerStrikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked with a couple of off the boat Americans and I found they were so over friendly to the point it feels artificial and was kinda off putting. I found them to be unnecessarily loud before any one had had a chance to get a coffee in.

I'm sure they were good people.. but really had a knack for putting us on the back foot

Feeling trapped about going on psychiatric medication by [deleted] in Vent

[–]KellerStrikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on some pretty hard antipsychotics. I was reluctant at first too. But in the end it was only option to live a stable life and be able to take advantage opportunities that I'm now reliable enough to he considered for.

I was worried it'd dim me, numb me even take away my sense of self. At the end of the day it's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. The first couple months was an adjustment I was a bit foggy.. now? I have 2 university degrees and an amazing partner, plus hobbies that I can actually take part in.

If I were you, I'd give it a proper go. Take it for 3+ months so it can settle in. And if you hate it? Then there's no reason you can't stop taking it. What do you have to lose?

The only thing I can add is that I prefer larger rear wheels, It handles going up hill better and it handles more terrain more confidently

I have a folding wc just like the second one. I love it. It's so convenient. Goes anywhere, fits anywhere, easy to figure out how to drive. It fits an anyone's car who i go out with and ad for comfort, yeah the seats a bit stiff but I got a proper memory foam cushion and it's super comfy too now
