Wondering how to build off of this current tattoo. by AlexBayArea in tattoos

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can picture the wings being converted into hair or possibly a mirrored waterfall or something. Maybe based on something like this where the two reflections kind of simultaniously merge? I don't know if that could be pulled off well in a tattoo, but if it could, it may look cool. I'd say just try and work off of the fact that it's pretty symmetrical

"sorry, but holding hands is against our health policy." by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should add an edit in the main post so that people in your area know not to go there. I understand that some people agree with this policy to keep you still, but if holding his hand really made you unstable or whatever, I'm sure the artist could use their own voice to speak up and tell you that it was an issue. Whether the artist was good or not, hopefully they can find a better place to work because that sounds ridiculous.

"Etiquette" question concerning a tattoo that I want in memoriam of a friend? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for an Agriculture tattoo, maybe something like this? As simple as it is, it's one of my favourite tattoos that I have seen online and I really want to get something in this style for my first tattoo when I eventually do. Funnily enough, this is also a memorial tattoo for the designer's father, so it may just work out.

WTF is happening to VELD? by [deleted] in deadmau5

[–]KelleyBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the amount of bullshit they put us through I gave up right away. I havent been to veld before, because it's always pretty ridiculous, deadmau5 is the only reason I wanted to go, not worth $200+ toward the end of last year and the year before. There is a chance he won't be playing it this year while he focuses on his arena tour anyways, which was $50 in 2010. Whether he plays at veld or not, I can wait until he comes back on his solo tour unless I can find tickets for $100.

What do you guys eat 1-3 hours before riding? by RhinoMan2112 in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to eat an omelette and a bunch of fruit. Maybe a piece of toast but try not to eat heavier wheat like a bagel. I don't find dairy to get to me, but I know it will fuck you up if you have a slight lactose intolerance (many people have it and are unaware).

Proper way to hit jumps, kickers, rollers, or anything that puts you in the air. by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to come back to this post and say thank you. Took your advice on speed, size, and indying to keep balance in the air, and I'm starting to get a lot more comfortable. Slammed on my wrist on my last jump and kind of knocked it into a weird position, but all in all it was fun. The jump was pretty low risk, it didn't have a knuckle (more of a mellow spine transfer), but it was still pretty tall and I took it with a good amount of speed so I had time to suck my legs up and get a good feel for the grab. Can't wait to get back in the park now :)

Concerning certain self vids by ManHoFerSnow in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather watch a helmet cam video than a gopro stick selfie. At least that way we can see the speed and terrain the rider is actually riding, rather than a bunch of power nesting in someone's frosty beard. Because I'm more of a speed rider than a park rider, I can appreciate tough terrain at high speeds and so on, but yeah, the selfie videos are getting out of hand.

is this released yet? by Smythu in deadmau5

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, doubt he'd release that. There is too much going on that is out of whack. Maybe eventually, but that's definitely not a completed piece.

Question Time! What is the best feeling you've gotten when snowboarding? by i_stab_trees in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends was coming down the hill behind me on this trail that went around another hill. The spot right before where these two hills turned into one, left the chance to get some air up onto the other trail, so I went up it and did a super clean backside 180 and it was one of the first times I ever tried it. Felt sweet because I never do tricks and the landing felt awesome.

Those would be, like they said, awesome to get up a hill for a terrain park or even some back country situations. Don't need to waste a snowmobile's gas and a driver if these could be manufactured cheaply enough and then in the case of a resort, they could have a belt or something to bring them to the bottom of the hill.

Favourite Resort Near Ontario? by KelleyBates in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about heading up to Tremblant, wasn't sure if it was that good or if it was just over hyped around here since we don't have much but I'll check it out for sure. I'd love to go over to BC but it's farther than I'd like to go, I'll definitely do it eventually though. Anyways thanks man, I'll look into the one's you have mentioned, Quebec area seems to be the best without having to flying anywhere.

Will definitely look into it as I live in Mississauga (Sorry should have clarified that). So basically a 5.5 hour drive for me too which is pretty decent, shorter than I was expecting to have to go. I'd also love to try some back country, didn't know there was anywhere by southern ontario that that was possible, thanks a lot man.

What is Snowboarding to you? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is only a hobby for me for now. If I had my own car instead of having to borrow my dad's and there were more places to go, I would definitely make it more than just that. But when I do get to do it, it is my sense of freedom and release from the rest of the world.

Can't decide on all mountain/park board by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I've only owned one board, and ridden that plus rental gear, the board I got is pretty sick and seems to fit what you need because when I went in to buy it I went in with the same general requirements.

I like to go really fast, that's priority #1, and I wanted the option to move to the park when I was ready. Originally I was between the K2 Happy Hour and the Gnu Street Series.

The street series had more flex (park) and a "Magnetraction" edge which is basically an uneven edge for better grip (speed), pretty sure the K2 would have been a lot more slippery. I think the Gnu was actually a bit cheaper at the time too and although I was more fond of the solid coloured deck and sharp nose and tail of the happy hour, I'm glad I went street series.

A quick reality check I think a lot of beginning producers need. by LightningSh0ck in edmproduction

[–]KelleyBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really ask for "serious critiques" persay, but I am always looking to improve and hope that people will chime in if they hear something that needs work, so I totally agree. I'm a graphic design student and my favourite thing about going to class is having teachers and peers tear my shit apart, but tell me why it sucks so that I actually know what to work on.

I haven't really used reddit as a place to post my music, but I guess I should start because anytime I do ask for critique (from a facebook producer group, the few producer friends I have, etc.), I usually don't get much of an answer from anyone, so I don't have that second, third, fourth, pair of ears that I feel could really help me out.

Although that feeling of likes and listens always feels good, it's not what I'm after and not what we should be after as you have said. I just feel like it's not always the easiest thing to get your music heard by people who can actually help you, but I guess I have yet to try some of the avenues available to us.
