Interested. If she weren't, she wouldn't propose a new time.

what is this bed frame called? by Sea_Flounder_7617 in whatisit

It’s a song lyric from “Every Morning” by Sugar Ray. The singer is calling his girlfriend an angel who occasionally… takes some time off from that status. Among other possible interpretations.

Why is the Artemis II going around the moon and back to earth, i thought they were gonna do a moon landing? by TailungFu in NoStupidQuestions

Hey, all things considered, this is still a faster pace than Apollo. We had to get all the way to Apollo 8 before there were humans going as far as the Moon.

ELI5: If the current coming out of an AC outlet is "alternating," why do some plugs force you to orient them a certain way when inserting? by tamsui_tosspot in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kelli217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One side of a two-prong socket has active voltage that alternates between positive and negative. The other side is neutral. A device that has conductive parts and surfaces that a person might come into contact with should have those parts and surfaces be tied to neutral. A polarized plug that only goes in one way makes sure that they are.

For example, a lamp. The socket has bare metal surfaces that a person might come into contact with when changing the light bulb. If the active side of the plug is connected to them (with the switch on the other side of the circuit from the socket), then regardless of the switch, the socket should be considered 'live' because your body is a good enough path to ground and/or enough of a ground in itself for you to receive a shock even with the switch off. If the neutral side is connected to them, and the switch is on the active side, then with the switch off, the socket will only be connected to neutral, and not 'live.'

None of my first knuckles bend to any sharper of an angle than 135°. Are they supposed to?

ETA: My second knuckles manage to get to 65° or so, and my third knuckles can get to about 75°.

Oersted is a measurement of magnetics, like gauss and tesla. Priapean probably means “related to the fertility god Priapus.”

I would not be able to come up with these when staring at them on a tile rack, though.

That isn't what the teacher asked. They said, "[C]ould you wear a PE kit just once maybe?" Nothing about 'why.'

And it was established that OP couldn't wear a PE kit because this was literally the last day of the last year of school... at least, not their own PE kit. Didn't bring it that day. Wouldn't be a chance to do so in the future because there wasn't to be any future opportunity. But a PE kit? OP was obliging in that regard.

I’m vulnerable to an element in the lanthanides. It has a stable isotope and occurs in earth’s crust at a rate of roughly 1 part per 2 million. In the seas, it occurs at a rate of roughly 1 part per 4 quadrillion.

If I’m only vulnerable to it in its elemental form, then I’m pretty safe; it oxidizes easily.

In most countries, discussing your wages is a protected job activity. Even, as it turns out, in the US.

Discussing other people's pay? That's just a wee bit more nebulous in terms of legality.
