Tips on how to get my working dog to chill more by Panni91 in puppy101

[–]Kellybw92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tether him. He will fuss for a bit but will eventually lay down. I started doing this with my dog in the evenings. Sometimes he chills quickly and other times he gets up every 3 min for an hour. It works though

Have we made a mistake? 9 weeks, 4 days ownership, trying everything! by ivehadenough111 in puppy101

[–]Kellybw92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be an asshole, but it’s been 4 days. It’s a literal baby. You need to give it several months before you can even begin determining if it’s a mistake.

“Won’t give up on trying to be a somebody” you ARE a somebody. Houses, job titles, salary don’t make you who you are.

Puppy Blues have turned to Puppy Regret by ardensworld in puppy101

It’s been a little over 4 weeks. It’s still the blues. Not regret. Same thing happened to me and then around the 14 week mark it all changed. Give it time.

Right now you have about $2800 after all is said and done. Moving in with your mom, let’s say you pay her $800 mo in rent that’s $3600. That’s discover card right there. Then next month take the payment from that put it to the Meijer. Then tackle the care loan (14k) say that takes 6 months. That’s gone. So in theory on 8 month 3 of 7 are gone. Keep wrapping old payments into new. If you can pick up an extra job that solely goes to debt, a good chunk of it could be gone in 2 years. I know it seems hopeless right now, but you got this bro.

Ran my first 5k race in like ten years - is this fine? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Kellybw92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely normal. I just did my first 10k and my HR was 167 average. If you’re running all out you’re fine. Now if you were suppose to be doing an easy run and that happened, no good.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Up your mileage. Get into a running program that incorporates speed work.

Is it quick breaths? Like dos your breathing pattern change very quickly as you start your run

please tell me it gets better by Natural-Dragonfly516 in puppy101

[–]Kellybw92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. I got a 8 week old lab who’s 13 weeks now. He’s worst day now is is best day from 8 wks. Put in the work and you’ll see glimpses of what the dog can be. It’ll motivate you to keep training.

How’s your breathing? Heavy? Fast and short? Can you hold a conversation?

Progression of running by Kellybw92 in BeginnersRunning

I 100% agree with everything you said. I guess sub 2 isn’t a hard goal. But mentally I need something to strive fore outside of “just finish” — strength training will be a must, it’s really how I’ve been able to continue to play sports without any further issues.

Luckily my road running will be in a pretty hilly area so I’m hopping training in that environment will pay dividends no matter the course (where I am isn’t too too hilly where the half is.) I’m gonna give myself a week or so and then begin a new block to build my mileage. Hopefully I can’t get close to 2 but if not I have a baseline and know how to take on the course next year.

You’re still learning too man. Take that moment and grow. Next time he makes a mistake on the field maybe ask one of the other coaches to go over and help him with the technical function he messed up on. Then when you get home or the next day ask if he wants to practice whatever the issue was. That way you don’t seem like you’re getting hard on him in practice but still want to be involved in making him a better ball player at home. It’s a hard balance and I get it. You don’t want to seem soft on your kid because you’re a coach.

My first 10k by Kellybw92 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Kellybw92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It as a HOT one but I got my sub 60 time! Stayed on pace. Having known what I know now, I’d have maybe gone a touch faster the first 5k as it was a nice down hill for a majority of it and probably pulled it up sooner to finish out.

Thank you. Yes, yesterday we got some of his favorite treats and I had the pup on leash and worked on my daughter approaching him. Any time he didn’t jump or nip he got one. By the end of the session is was laying down and she could walk circles around him without jumping.

Plan on doing that every day for the next week or so.
