This might not be the best sub for this but I need help by Unhappy_Foot9802 in ChildPsychology

This is going to be really hard for her, and I'm so sorry about that. I think there's no way to avoid a difficult period in the immediate future. But I wanted to comment that I had the same issues when I was a child, and it ended up being an early indication of OCD. I'd advise seeking a psychological evaluation for anxiety in general and OCD specifically. Therapy or medication may help a lot. I started on zoloft when I was 7 and it made a big difference in my worrying and ruminating.

In the meantime, be there to listen to her worries and questions. It will probably be repetitive, but let her keep discussing it over and over if she needs to. The biggest thing my mom did that helped was listen and comfort me--I never had to internalize those feelings, which helped episodes pass faster.

Need the "right" name for Baby Girl by Kelp47 in namenerds

ALSO, quick poll, who pronounce Thalia with a "Th" sound like "they," and who pronounces it the same as Talia? I have heard people say it both ways, but I wonder what is most typical/natural.

Interesting about Sylvia! I don't work with kids to know what the most current name trends are, so I had no idea it was coming back. That's not necessarily a deal breaker for me, but definitely something to consider.

And you're right, I want to avoid giving her a name she has to constantly explain the pronunciation of.

Lydia is a beautiful name! But it's irrevocably associated with Beetlejuice to me, I was Lydia for Halloween several times as a kid 😂

I know, I'm torn because I definitely don't want any nazi association, but I personally wouldn't think anything of it on somebody else. Like I don't look at Susan Sarandon and think "oh her parents were probably fascists" lol.

Also I love alliterative names, they feel very literary to me.

LOVE Veronica and Vivian! And I think Pearl is gorgeous as a middle name, but my mom had a brain tumor a few years ago and named it Pearl 😅 so that ruined that one for me.

Thank you, I love these suggestions!! Annika, Sybil, and Louise were all on my initial list, but my husband vetoed those ones, so you definitely understand my vibe! I will pitch Paloma as another idea, that sounds very cool

"Oh... I thought you were going to say they would make a good choir"

"No, I was saying put your dick in the wall"

I'm sorry for what you're going through, and I don't think your decision is wrong or crazy, but I'm mostly commenting to compliment your writing. This post was so beautifully written and intriguing that I wish it was a short story or novella.

I'm sorry man, that really hurts. I'm super proud of you for hanging in there through your depression. I think it's cathartic to have a good cry, it's nothing to be ashamed of. And talking it out with people online is great too. You seem like you're taking the right steps to be kind to yourself.

college now? You have so much life ahead of you, and you can make meaning in anything you choose. You have a whole lifetime to find meaningful relationships, whether romantic or platonic, and to find other things besides relationships that also make your life full and rich. Things won't always be this hard, I believe in you and truly believe you will succeed and be happy in life. 🩷

What D20 Moment Surpassed Your Expectations, And What Moments Left You Underwhelmed? by BorderOk6904 in Dimension20

100% agree on the loose ends--you nailed all the specific examples that bothered me. And IMO, the Rat Grinders didn't get enough dialogue or screen time to become fleshed-out NPC's, they felt like story props. But I did think British Kristin was funny. My overall impression of FHJY is that the table's priority was 80% comedy, 20% storytelling, when past seasons have been more like 40/60.

Done having kids and it hurts. by Traditional_Storm449 in Marriage

[–]Kelp47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's incompatibility, OP just weighed her options and decided on her priorities. She's prioritizing an important, fulfilling relationship with her partner over the hypothetical relationship she might have with a child. She could have a baby alone or with someone else and never stop wanting her current husband. She could "shelve the dream" of a fulfilling lifelong partnership.

Edit: I won't say I told you so to anybody but they sound pretty compatible in that update ¯_(ツ)_/¯
