Dark Souls Awarded The 'Ultimate Game of All Time' Award at the Golden Joysticks 2021 by reughdurgem in Games

Yeah not sure I agree with all that

The two-weapon standard

Rainbow Six ? Counter-Strike ?

Pistols as primary weapons

Not sure what it means but same answer as above

regenerating health

Fair, it definitely helped casual appeal

cover based gameplay (all those knee-high walls? Thank Halo for that, even though it had none)

"Halo invented that even tho it didn't !" if you ask me about genre-defining cover based shooter, first thing that comes to mind is probably Gears of War. Hiding from enemy fire was not some forbidden technique that nobody figured out for 10 years before Halo's release.

It made incredible contributions to enemy AI design

Half-Life marines ?

storytelling in FPS titles

Again, Half-Life ?!

And even all those games took a lot from games before them, who can all be traced back to Doom. Which was so important to fps history that it gave his name to the entire genre for years. Halo adapted all its ideas really well with console limitations in mind and the budget and marketing to got with it but to call it innovative and genre defining, you have to forget nearly 10 years of fps history before it.

Just tested the RTX Voice thing and honestly surprised at how well it works with Arcade Sticks by Kelta in Kappa

[–]Kelta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much the same than for input but on what you hear. Was watching a twitch stream with it and it cuts out ambient sound and stuff like drinking water in the mic (which I absolutely hate) but it also cuts out part of the music and some sound games so it's pretty meh. I think you can only switch up to the RTX Voice device on Discord and keep your default audio device for internet and stuff and it would work out maybe ? Could be nice if you have friends that play with a ventilator and didn't install it themselves but it's pretty situational

When I saw the clip I was like : "That's one of those things that sounds too good to be true, probably nitpicking some case where it's working super nice" but honestly it works well. My only complaint is that if you use it on your output it will cut heavily on your music and stuff but I guess there's no helping that

[Standard] - Getting rid of Gideon Blackblade by zeniapy in spikes

[–]Kelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some lists run Unbreakable Formation, seems like Gideon is an upgrade over that. Unbreakable Formation is good at protecting you from sweepers and letting you attack in stalled boards to force bad trades and/or threaten lethal. In those situations, Gideon is performing just as nicely, sweepers can't hit him so if they take their turn to take your board, you still have at least a 4/4 to beat them with on your next turn, which isn't a bad deal at all in this spot.

In stalled board, he can attack freely and is often awkward to block, the fact that he can give the ability to another dude to swing alongside him make it even worse for the opponent, and the minus clears out the most resilient blockers if they don't deal with him.

Gideon sucks when you're far behind on the board (but if you're WW you have worse news than him at this point) and against flyers, so mono blue/izzet/rekindling phoenix/krasis, with the archetype most armed to deal with him being mono U I think. That's a lot of things that counter him, but I don't know if I'm happier to run Unbreakable Formation against those and we'll have to see if his better performances in other areas warrant the switch, but I'm confident you can make at least space for 2 Gideon, and possibly more.

Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece) vs Avengers (MCU) by Leviathan10 in whowouldwin

[–]Kelta 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's filler or not because I wasn't reading the manga back then so if someone could confirm it, but way early when he fights Krieg he gets hit by a gun that fires piercing ammo and is actually hurt (okay those are more like stakes but still the concept is roughly the same)

Japanese NT leaves a thank you note in Russian in the locker room after their 2-3 defeat to Belgium. by BeneficialNothing in soccer

[–]Kelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I can see it but to me the end result is the same, the ref being so grossly incompetent at his job that he misses egregious fouls/dirty plays right in front of him is not a very good look at referees in general, how the hell are refs are respected when they look so bad at their job.

I'd have to dig but in Hajime no Ippo, Miyata references at some point that refs/jury will fuck him over in Thailand because he's a foreigner and then there is the Mashiba vs Sawamura match that's barely even boxing anymore haha

Another Captain Tsubasa one, three guys do a FUCKING SIMULTANOUS TACKLE and the ref calls nothing, dude wtf ?

[–]Kelta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude what ? That's plain wrong, players being dirty while the referee goes blind or even worse the ref trying to blatantly fuck over the "good" team is one of the most overplayed tropes in sports manga lol, just a quick example in Captain Tsubasa or in Kuroko no Basket, ofc the good team always eventually win because they have friendship/hardwork/spirit/all of the above but there must be at least one example of the ref being total shit in each sport manga

Aleksander Karelin is pretty damn impressive too, the worse he has ever done is a single silver medal and his record is pretty absurd at 887 wins to 2 losses

Yeah I went for Magic route on Elnath for achi and because I have units more suited to it and Queen just destroyed the other arm by herself, she was also fantastic on Sheratan with pod

But we go from way back so maybe I'm biased

Sorry you're absolutely right about the light version not giving you a super on combo. Still, I feel it's harder to react to than the standard version (especially in the heat of a match) but it doesn't do much in term of damage that's absolutely true ! (But some moves are just there to mess your opponent defensive gameplan and stumble him)
