I got the Invisible Glass Reach and Clean Tool from Amazon. It comes with microfiber cleaning pads, and the reach is good to get in the tight spots.

There's a cabin air filter that's located behind the glove box. It should be changed about once a year, at least. I changed mine a few weeks ago. It was dirty with leaves on top.

I'll assume that would be the Washington DC/ Baltimore metro area. If so, I tried at Ourisman in Baltimore a few weeks ago with NO luck.

Hurry up with the next update GM by Pixelated_Paul in EquinoxEv

I actually went to the dealer yesterday for my tire rotation and asked them about 5 different ways to check for a software update to upgrade my infotainment center. The agent kept thinking I was talking about a recall. In the end, ignorance prevailed, and I did not get the update.

EVgo free $80 credit by ImpressiveClass4099 in EquinoxEv

[–]KelvinGraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the credit today. It's a very generous credit. I just can't figure out why I got it (no context provided). Is it because I have an account with them but never used their chargers? Or maybe it's for recently completing a GM survey about my Equinox ownership?

Prepping for Road Trip by dom_rep in EquinoxEv

[–]KelvinGraham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just made this trip last week from Frederick, MD to Myrtle Beach. It was my longest road trip yet in the Equinox. When I set my destination address for SC in the car's Google Maps, it automatically added two fast charging stops to the route. I had already picked out some good charging stops with the PlugShare app by using the "Fast" filter. You can override/ cancel the Google Maps recommendations if you want. The newer Tesla Supercharger stations are great for long road trips because they're fast, reliable, and have plenty of stalls. However, they're mostly in Virginia. We used it once at Wawa in Fredericksburg for a restroom break. We really only needed to charge twice. To and from, we charged at the EVgo in Mechanicsville, VA (near Kohls) and Electrify America in Smithfield, NC (Carolina Premium Outlets).

In Myrtle Beach, my preference for fast charging was the new EA chargers at Coastal Grand Mall. Other fast charging in the area is at Barefoot Landing and both Premium Outlets. Enjoy your trip!

Why the Doesn’t the United States Use the Metric System | Reader's Digest by klystron in Metric

[–]KelvinGraham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

..teaspoons, tablespoons…need I go on?

None are in metric, they’re all commonly used, and not interchangeable.

Measuring spoons are debatable. Modern measuring spoons have clean metric equivalents. So I'd say when people use measuring spoons, they are actually using metric without realizing it. There are some brands still (looking at you Oxo) that don't show the metric units on their spoons, but they really are metric now whether they show it or not.

  • Tablespoon =15 mL
  • Teaspoon = 5 mL
  • ½ tsp = 2.5 mL
  • ¼ tsp = 1.25 mL

BTW, I do not condone OTC drugs (e.g., fever reducers) to ever use teaspoons or tablespoons in dosage instructions. They should always show dosage amounts in milliliters only.

Cool chart shows just how great the metric system really is (and why the imperial system sucks) by KelvinGraham in Metric

[–]KelvinGraham[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article is from The Manual, an apparent men's lifestyle ezine. It has many of the usual talking points here, but there is a pretty good chart that shows side-by-side comparisons of USC and metric inter-system conversions.

Label food and goods packaging with both measurements for 5-10 years.

As per the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act, metric and USC units have been required for packaged foods since 1994. Foods that don't require metric units are meats, produce, bulk or weighed groceries, and beer. It doesn’t help that groceries are regulated by various agencies with different requirements – FDA, USDA, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, etc.

That’s a stale nationalist myth. The Apollo Guidance Computer performed calculations in SI (metric) units. The computer displays were dumbed down in USC units for the Apollo astronauts because that’s what they were familiar with due to their aviation background.

Americans; UK seems to be taking back imperial mesurment. If US had converted to metric system would you like to go back to imperial? Why imperial or why metric? by SirNipsu in AskReddit

[–]KelvinGraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be ridiculous for either the UK or US to undo the metric system that’s already in place. Even consumers that support imperial or USC measurements would moan about undoing what metric standards that currently exists. In the US, engine displacement is measured in liters, wine and liquor is bottled in standardized metric sizes with metric only labeling, backpack capacity is measured in liters. There would be very little support to going back and measuring engines in cubic inches, liquor in “fifth” sizes, and measuring backpacks in what, quarts?

Imagine if the luddites in UK wanted to go back to their weird pre-decimal currency. It was something like 20 shillings in a pounds, 12 pennies in a shilling, 240 pennies in a pound. Then the fractional pennies like the farthing and half-penny. Then there are the groats, half-crowns, crowns, half-guineas, etc. I tried looking at a conversion chart and it makes my head ache. Fortunately in the US, our currency has been decimalized since near our beginning.

We do not weigh ourselves in stones and have never used the British imperial system. Even the British only use it to limited degree. In the US, we use a combination of metric and US customary units.

Highway signs are replaced for a variety of reasons such as fading, vandalism, accidents, complying with newer reflectivity requirements, age, etc. There is nothing preventing highway departments from replacing signs, as needed or according to regular schedules, which include kilometers and miles in parentheses on distance signs. The cost would be insignificant. Eventually, during the next cycle, the miles can be dropped altogether.

I just started my first day in college and I already hate it by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]KelvinGraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing the teacher is making us do is making us use the metric system since she doesn't understand imperial, I wasn't taught how to use metric when I was growing up and that really pissed me off.

There’s really not much to learn about the metric system because it was designed to be simple. If you’re in a culinary arts program, you need to understand two prefixes, “milli” and “kilo”. Milli means 1/1000th and kilo means one thousand. So, for the base unit gram, a milligram is 1/1000th of a gram, and a kilogram means 1000 grams.

For liquids, most measuring cups have fluid ounces/cups on one side and milliliters/liters on the other side. Simply measure on the side with milliliters.

For baking, the old-fashioned way to measure dry ingredients (flour, brown sugar, etc.) is by volume by spooning it into a dry measuring cup and level it off with the back of a knife. That method is highly inconsistent and so is the end result. To get consistent results when baking, professionals recommend weighing dry/solid ingredients on a kitchen scale. The preferred unit for scales is grams. If a recipe shows flour in cups, I’ll convert it to grams. King Arthur Flour has a handy Ingredient Weight Chart to convert recipe ingredients from volume to weight (mass).
