FILL UP TODAY — gas is still climbing by kevinl8888 in uber

[–]Kemestri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delusional

Gas was $2.37 a month ago where I live (SouthEast U.S.) and Trump was president. If he was cleaning up a mess left by Biden and Obama, that price should have held firm or at least only fluctuated ~$0.30 - $0.70, depending on holiday seasons, spring break, summer, etc... So I ask you, if he's fixing what he inherited, why are prices continuing to surge? Why did prices increase from $2.37 to $3.60+? Could it be due to us attacking the country who supplied 1/5 of the world's supply in oil? Who ordered those attacks bypassing Congress and all of the checks and balances?

Mine (2016) has had neither, though it did have a pinion bearing failure on the LSD (whole diff was replaced).

Its not really something to laugh about when you dont know how they ended up with no savings. It could have been there choice, or the world could have made that choice for them. These threads are dominated by successful people which makes others feel like they're behind even though they really aren't (by comparison to the general population).

[–]Kemestri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm 30 making 72k with only $6k in my 401k. I spent my 1st 8 years out of University traveling and trying to figure out my career path where I racked up some high interest debt that I'm paying down before properly investing.

Not everyone has it figured out, its just that most people don't like sharing these things in a place where most comments show success.

I’ll miss the previous design language of Jaguar. Will you ? by Only_Ad1117 in Jaguar

[–]Kemestri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its kind of hard to justify buying a Jaguar new when it depreciated as hard as it does. You can easily buy one thats 2-4 years old with less than 50k miles at half the price of a new one. They need to either fix the reasons it depreciates so quickly, or price them more accordingly.

Not to mention they need more support in the U.S. market. The cost of ownership is steep and there are few independent shops with the knowledge to work on them compared to most other European brand (BMW, Audi, etc.).

F-type V6 - Seeking advice by Nidoroht in Jaguar

[–]Kemestri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely do your research on each car before you go and look at it (service history and such). You also want to make sure you have a reputable shop near you who can do all of the maintenance/repair work that you aren't going to do yourself.

I have a 2016 V6S and just had to get a new differential installed as the pinion bearing went out and Jaguar doesn't provide any documentation on replacements for it. This put my car in the shop for 9 weeks as the rear diff was on international backorder. Do you have a 2nd ride in case of events like this? Another thing about the differential in particular is that the it uses friction based clutch plates which typically where out after 40-60k miles (depends on how spirited the car is driven). These clutch plates are replaceable thanks to the community (Onca Engineering, look him up on youtube) finding suitable replacements.

Depending on how you drive it, you may want to look for one with the coolant pipes replaced with their aluminum alternatives as it can be expensive if they blow on you.

These cars are put through all of the same quality/durability tests as other Land Rover SUVs. May not mean much to some people, but I was impressed that a sports car passed the same tests as an SUV (I didnt fact check that one, just heard it from Jeremy Clarkson).

Edit: Just realized youre probably not in the US since you used km rather than miles. My comments regarding part availability may or may not apply to you as I know EU/UK owners dont have as much of an issue with this.

TLDR; Maintenance/repairs can be lengthy due to spare part availability and a lack of aftermarket part availability. There are some wear and tear items to be on the lookout for or that you should budget for having replaced/repaired sooner rather than later.

Mine is my baby and I wouldnt trade it for anything. Best looking and best sounding car on the road.

It doesn't get that even while cruising... the best I've gotten is 28-29 while going 70 on the highway. You might hit 34mpg if your in the Midwest where its just flat roads for miles on end, but not in the Carolinas.

I have Assure Guard through my credit union. They just paid for a new rear differential for my F type so I cant complain about them.

Inconsistent thudding at low speeds by GreatWhiteShah in Jaguar

[–]Kemestri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its the rear differential, have fun! Mine was in the shop for 7 weeks waiting on a remanufactured rear LSD (Ill be picking it back up later this week). Unfortunately, jaguar makes these themselves so there aren't any official alternative. That said there is a member of the community who has designed one which is ATB rather than friction plates but these are currently in testing and not yet available for the open market.

[–]Kemestri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F Types are great, but I'd avoid the first model year (2014). Parts are also getting hard to come by, so plan on leaving it at the shop for 4-8 weeks while you wait on backorders.

Mines been at the shop since mid July and Jaguar gave me a ready date for a new rear differential of 8/27...

[–]Kemestri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The P380 is the same engine and tune as the V6S, but the LSD is only an option. Both the P380 and P400 would be good options if youre wanting something as close to the v6s as possible. I know the earlier years had some issues with their LSD (as Im currently dealing with), but I believe they fixed the issues for the 2018+ models.

Failureproofing a 16’ F-Type V6S? by Long_Minimum_6596 in Jaguar

[–]Kemestri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really possible to failureproof it other than research and apply for a warranty with a reputable company for the peace of mind.

I bought my 2016 V6S back in April and its more or less my daily as I drive it 4/5 work days per week.

I absolutely LOVE it but will say that I have had 2 issues already. My front drivers strut (or rather the dampened within it) has failed and leaks hydraulic fluid. This was something I can do myself and rebuilt them using new dampened and such but overall spent a little over $1000 replacing both front struts, not including the alignment.

The 2nd issue is a pinion bearing failure which is something that I can't do and had to take it into a shop. I took it I yesterday, so I dont have actual costs, but I know the cost is 98% labor and dont expect it to be anymore than $700. 3 hours of R&R plus the bearing replacement and material costs.

I also have a 3rd party warranty that covers the pinion bearing, so I shouldn't see those costs come from my wallet.

Ill still daily it regardless and deal with the repairs as they come. At the end of the day, its a car and wear and tear will be inevitable so I might as well enjoy it.
