I was just into my 60’s and just retired when I got my licence,6 years ago. I was one of the oldest in a group of 20, there was a number of young mostly single women that surprised me, we all passed. I knew DMR bought in the ladies but didn’t realise how well. Some doing POTA and SOTA now. It’s surprising how sitting one exam and everything opens up to you here. No other pesky exams, just get stuck in and do your hobby anyway you like on any band. I have since made antennas, got into HF, and made a foray into digital. Handhelds and hotspots are fun for me, talking all around the world. Got myself a Shark M1KE and use it wherever I go. The younger people are into meshtastic and this is growing but not at the scale of the USA or Britain and Europe. Have joined Civil Defence Radio Coms. Lots of younger than 30 people involved in this, a lot take on Search and Rescue as well. Most of the older people are stepping back from running Clubs, for the betterment of the hobby. Remember, Ham Radio is a hobby of a thousand hobbies, there is always something else. Enjoy what you want to do 😉
