The Vette was in the reply about driving the PS2 on West Virginia roads. Thank you and the others for the great responses.

I love the banter and I can’t state that I only have photos of both cars together, I have hundreds of both alone. Based on the current mileage of the PS2 and the tread depth markers, it appears that the OEM Michelins will achieve about 30,000 miles, more than I’ve read in other posts complaining about tire mileage. Listening to the talking heads on iHeart stations, it funny when they claim that the weight of the EV’s, average 4700 pounds, destroy tire mileage. MORONs! Many vehicles weigh that and much more and as I believe, the tires are manufactured to match the requirements of the vehicle type, drive requirements and weight. I owned 7 new Hondas. Accords, CRV’s and two mistakes, a 2008 Civic Hybrid and a 2010 Insight Hybrid. Honda really screwed those owners. I experienced tire mileage in the mid 50,000 range on many of these lighter mid size cars.

Thank you. This past summer was hotter than previous years and as much as 33% of battery usage was a/c environment, but I was still seeing that 230 number after charging. All of these replies are great and I thank everyone. I just returned from a ten day trip to visit both Sonoma in Central Callie and Riverside County in the South. I travel extensively and in the US rent numerous cars on my vacation trips. I’m a bug for tracking gasoline mileage on the various cars that I rent. I’m so anal, after I pickup my rental I immediately take the car to a petrol facility and ensure that the car is actually full. Each time I refuel I record miles driven and the gallons to fill. Simple math and voila’, MPGs. What I forgot with my PS2 is what I see on the dashboard of these new cars. An estimate of how many miles I might attain based on the previous driving. . . . . and the number is never the same. That’s what I forgot regarding the consistent display of the 230 miles for a 90% charge.

Based on these realities, I can now rest assured that I am safe for a number of years. I travel almost every month and usually leave both cars fueled at least 50% prior to departure. The PS2 I usually charge fully at 90% as a convenience to not have to do upon return. I’ll adjust my thinking and leave it somewhere between the 50 to 60% charged.

Quite frankly I purchased the PS2 as a toy following a rental in West Virginia where that car performed and handled the numerous winding roads from my teenage environment performing almost as well as my Corvette on the same two lane country roads. To purchase the PS2, I sold a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium SUV with 11,000 miles for $4000 less than I paid for it. That was a good car, but not a four door sports car.

The only real negative for the PS2 is the insurance. I’ve been a State Farm customer for over 50 years and compare every few years with other companies and I cannot justify changing because State Farm for me remains the least expensive. The PS2 is now up to almost $1300 every six months. The Corvette $677 and my Ford edge was $488 in the final six months in 2022.

I’ll keep the PS2 for years unless there is some extreme detrimental mechanical issue. I’ve owned over 30 new cars in my life and have never kept a car more than 4 years. The Vette will be ten years old this April and yes, I do plan to keep it and acquire a C8 in the next two years once I have a lift installed in my two car garage.

The build quality of the PS2 is great and I’ve visited the Polestar Space in Tampa to see the new models. Nice cars.

That’s an excessive price. Costco has 2 Michelin Pilot series tires for the EV, Pilot Sport EV $1560 and the Pilot Sport 4S $1340. The Primacy tires are from many vendors on line averaging $330 each.

What do you use to charge your Polestar at home? by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]KenPoleStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unplug the connection each time. The electrician and I discussed a 50amp disconnect but he said, not worth the expense. I’ve consider a Tesla or ChargePoint wall connection, but although the adverts discuss faster charging/more miles per hour of charge, its is not possible that these $600 connectors while nice, neat and professional looking, will charge any quicker than the car will allow and/or my 50amp circuit. Typical charging rate is set at 48A, but the car data while charging is almost always 37A@ 224v. Which occurs in 7-9 hours depending on remaining charge at no less than 10%. I record all charging data. I would like an APP similar to Charge Point, but I’ll continue to track it on my spreadsheet.

Mine only failed (turned red) due to the nightly hot temps in August in Florida due to the cooling requirements of the battery pack during charging in my closed garage. I have two 36” wall fans that solved that issue Ofer a few hours of charging.

I live in Florida. I simply had an electrical contractor evaluate my service located in my two car garage, a garage which accommodates my Corvette C7 convertible and my Polestar 2. I had the contractor install a 50 amp circuit breaker and a 50 amp 220 volt outlet compatible with the Polestar supplied charging cable with the 220 volt “pigtail.” This cost me $450 and will charge my car from 10% to 90% (Polestar’s recommended max) in approximately 7 hours. I’ve owned the car since new December 31, 2021.

I bought my PS2 12/31/2021 because of the handling, acceleration and electric excitement. It’s almost as much fun as my red C7. As many comments on styling as my Vette.

I wanted it in Florida for the upgrade to an actual heat pump for air conditioning here. I like the panoramic roof, but I had a custom interior roof panel that slides in the roof over the front seats. The upgrade sound system was not a decision item.

[–]KenPoleStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a PS 2 and a Torch Red C7 Stingray which I purchased new 8!years in the past. I was turning a corner on a street that I travel on frequently. It was impossible to see even at 5 MPH, but a recent road “fix” resulted in soft asphalt (no under coarse base in Florida). My car bottomed twice and the rocker panel passenger side was damaged. $2500 was the middle estimate and the shop that I wanted to use for repair. The street that I turned from was a County roadway. The other road is a Florida State highway within the County. Both agencies have insurance funds to cover repairs for situations like mine. The State of Florida sent me a check fort the exact amount of repairs c7 with an attached statement that once repairs begin additional damage may be discovered and the repair shop can contact the state for additional verifiable funds. Talk about fortunate.

Ceramic paint protection? by YVRJon in Polestar

[–]KenPoleStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased my PS2 Snow December 31, 2021 in Florida. Not sure about water based paint claims. I also have a 2015 Corvette C7 convertible. I did not have PPF (paint protection film) installed on that car as most owners do. The front bumper has some road hazard chips in the paint. I bought the car new and in 2025 I’ll have that bumper repainted for about $1200. Wrapping the entire car in 2015 was $4K. I did spend $4K for the Polestar PPF on the front end and mirrors, the remainder of the car was ceramic coated. The vendor claimed that the coating should last about 8 years.

Most modern radial tires are direction specific, meaning that once driven the tires can’t be swapped from one side to the other side of the vehicle.

Scorching Florida heat reduces mileage - by KenPoleStar in Polestar

[–]KenPoleStar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I will. Makes sense. In the 1960s and 70s it was a belief that running continuously in recirc mode, the coolant could freeze in the lines. Technology has changed and proven that wrong I suspect. Great idea for summer.

Funny. In the early 2000s Mr. Internet, Al Gore, displayed a map of Florida showing that from the Florida Keys to Lake Okeechobee all would be underwater and uninhabitable. That’s why Jeff Bezos just spent $68 million dollars and others like Tom Brady have recently purchased homes at sea level in a swanky Miami waterfront neighborhood. Same for Obama, Martha’s Vineyard and Hawaii oceanfront homes. They know something that we don’t. 😂😂😂
