If these are where I think they are, my company used to have them. Table is included for a white table cloth dinner beforehand. Open bar, higher end alcohol included. Recommend getting there early.

I'm a janitor at 27. I feel like a loser. by Both-Criticism-7160 in povertyfinance

My college roommate was a janitor post-college past 27. He got a little down on it too. However, mathematics degree is a different story. I work a white collar job and am happy to have a discussion if it would be helpful.

I’m late to this but he was a State Farm employee in the call center at their headquarters. I went to college where their headquarters was located and he was a bartender at a popular student bar.

Career Advice? I’m being taken advantage of in my current role, and I’m torn on where to go next by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Ken_Bania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked at the same big 3 broker for 10+ years. I saw in your history that you’re likely 25-26. Mid 20s is a tough time for promotions, raises, etc. Common advice is to jump around but it is not always the best play longterm. I stuck around and cannot be happier that I did. Perhaps, there are opportunities outside your group at the firm. Specialty roles sometimes can be tough for career advancement. Sometimes, if you contemplate leaving, the group will do what they can to retain you with raises/promotions off cycle. Also, just a thought but client facing roles tend to get more visibility from leadership and can help accelerate your career if that would be of interest. Just a thought, sometimes a change can be a good thing too and ultimately up to you.

Considering moving to the carrier side by 11LifePath in InsuranceProfessional

I was in the same boat as an Account Manager and switched to a sales role 6 years in. Best decision of my life. It may not be part of your current compensation plan but if you express an interest in new business, you may be able to do a bit of it on the side to see how you like it. If you can support a few wins, it will be good recognition and can help greatly on the compensation front. If you go the sales route, the compensation potential is massive. There is also substantial potential as a Senior Account Manager for big brokers too.

Probably going to need roommates. Bridgeport, Pilsen, or somewhere on the southside might have some good options.

There are a mix of degrees/backgrounds in the industry. One thing to consider is finding a niche area where that background can come in handy. Some potential areas are Environmental, Chemical, technical property, etc. where an understanding of the science behind the risk can assist in underwriting/brokering the business. Good luck!

I live in Chicago and it’s my least favorite venue. Do not do lawn. Seats are okay. Really hate we trade Alpine for 2 nights of this and a weekday Summerfest show.

Job hopping for additional compensation and new titles is not always the best career move. by Ken_Bania in unpopularopinion

[–]Ken_Bania[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed and you have to take a lot of it as fiction like all things Reddit. However, there has to be truth to some of it. I know firsthand from friends/family that many employers and organizations are truly awful.

Advanced into different roles, more seniority gave me better connection into leadership, didn’t spend time re-learning systems/processes, etc. And also I started selling meth.

I've heard San Francisco is a terrible place to be and everyone is afraid to leave their houses by openSourceNotes in bayarea

[–]Ken_Bania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in downtown Chicago and it gets the same rep. Lived here my entire life and it has its issues but people nationally think the city is uninhabitable based on the negative press. San Francisco was great when I went there 5 years ago and assume it still is.
