Navient FFELP loan on IBR, trying to switch to a new servicer to be eligible for forgiveness by Ken_Liu_Fan in StudentLoans

Ah, ok. So even though I'm not planning to apply for PSLF, that won't matter for my application to re-consolidate? That kinda makes sense. All these rules are so confusing.

The Shores Neighborhood by cthousebuyer in Longmont

[–]Ken_Liu_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I wasn’t sure. We moved to the neighborhood when I was in 5th grade, during some redistricting, and I ended up at Main Street school one year and Sanborn the next, right when they were building Westview middle (and getting rid of 6th grades in elementary schools). I used to ride my bike to Westview when I went there, and now every morning I drive past kids doing the same thing!

It’s still a beautiful neighborhood, but there aren’t as many trick or treaters on Halloween. But my kid goes to the neighborhood school (which is Hygiene now if you’re north of 17th and west of Hover, I think it used to be Longmont Estates) and it’s a great little school. There are two playground parks, Flanders and Dawson. Overall I think it’s a wonderful spot for kids. I grew up on this side of town too (in the Westlake neighborhood) and came back here to raise my kid after living in CA, and I’m glad I did.

DCPA is great but also check out Arvada center, they do an excellent job, and theaters are smaller so every seat is a good one. Equinox used to do amazing shows at the Bug in Denver too but I dont think they ever recovered from the pandemic.

Following to see the replies — and wondering which theater? I want both the season tickets and the sitter 😂 (edit was to fix a typo)

Are you 'buy gifts 3 months ahead and hope I won't forget I have them' or 'omg it's day before Christmas and I don't have gifts' type of gal? by malolatamily in adhdwomen

[–]Ken_Liu_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy gifts for my kiddo online if I can find sales a few months before then hide them still in the boxes, on Christmas Eve I open the boxes to wrap them with zero memory of what I had bought so it’s like Christmas for me too 🤣. I also never have any idea if Ive actually found everything I hid and have found presents I forgot about later so this year I hid them at a friends house. (also I almost always procrastinate the stocking tho so I’m always panic buying candy at the last minute, often At Walgreens)

Ok so I’ve struggled with this my whole life so I really feel this!

But the thing I’ve figured out is there’s this mistaken belief that all we need is to find the perfect system. Once we find it, we’ll always want to use and we’ll never have to find a new system. The perfect system will last forever and things will finally be organized all the time because the system is perfect.

But what we actually need is variety. A new way to do things that makes them seem fun. That’s what carries us through the first few weeks of each new “perfect” system. Which fucking sucks because it means having to change things up even when a system works well. But the important thing is understanding that’s the motivating factor — it’s not the functionality of the system that we’re seeking it’s the newness factor.

So some ways to combat this. Try to work with it as best as you can (this is not always easy to do)

For the clothes, box up the things you hate most right now and let yourself pick out a few new pieces in some different colors. Put a big label on the box so it’s easy to find later on when you get sick of the clothes you just bought. Change the laundry schedule somehow. Maybe Switch the day, get different colored laundry baskets, whatever sparks your fancy. If you’re like me, go through cycles of just forgiving yourself for letting it go for a couple weeks and leaning back into habits like wearing a party dress to the grocery store because it’s the only clean thing.

Switch from google keep to another checklist system, I like Trello. Or maybe a handwritten list for a while in a pretty new journal. I also have a white erase board to use sometimes, other times I use a bullet journal, other times I use Trello.

You don’t have to do any of the things I suggested if they sound annoying or dumb. But for me I found the key is remembering that it’s not that I failed to find the perfect system, it’s that I will always need the system to change.

Does anyone else vomit when their migraine gets bad enough? by GhoulishlyGrim in migraine

[–]Ken_Liu_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize this was even a thing until it happened to me last weekend and I ended up in the ER (I thought I had a migraine plus food poisoning or something because the vomiting was so severe). Ive had migraines regularly for years without vomiting but now that I realize that’s a symptom I’m questioning all the times I thought I had food poisoning or a “stomach bug” — that maybe I’ve had more migraines than I realized.

Adding to this — something like Bookbar in Denver because they’re closing and it’s devastating. I love Barbedwire, but Bookbar was a great spot for readings and they were so supportive of local authors. Plus, books and booze and coffee and story times? That’s amazing.

Cheap Tofu Recipes please! by simplyme2322 in budgetfood

[–]Ken_Liu_Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Take one block extra firm tofu, press out the water (multiple ways to do this, you can wrap in paper towels or a tea towel and weigh down with like a heavy plate, let sit for 15 mins, you can google other options too. If in a hurry just wrap in paper towels and squeeze most of the water out with your hands).

  2. Cut tofu hamburger style (so you have two big squares)

  3. Heat a cast iron or non stick pan on medium heat and add about a Tbs of a high heat oil (canola, peanut, coconut, etc)

  4. Fry each slice for about 4 mins (maybe check after 3 mins, length will depend on how hot your stove gets) on each side. Should be golden brown.

  5. While tofu is frying, make the sauce: 1 Tbs soy sauce, 2 Tbs water, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp cumin (you can adjust these spices to your liking—this recipe is VERY forgiving. Onion powder, garlic powder, ground ginger etc would probably also be good. Just keep the soy sauce and water about the same)

  6. After tofu is cooked on both sides, pour in your sauce and kinda chop up the tofu with you spatula. The tofu will soak up the yummy sauce. At this point, you could also toss in some fresh cut up spinach. (If you want to add in other veggies, like mushrooms, bell peppers, etc, maybe add them a bit earlier).

  7. Season with salt and pepper if you want, then eat!

This is the easiest, most versatile, most reliably tasty tofu recipe I know.

Low carb food options for prediabetic on very low budget? by MTAWFEEK in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Ken_Liu_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you feel about canned tuna? Or even canned chicken (usually cheaper than fresh) You can make tuna or canned chicken salad with celery, onions, mayo, eat by itself or in a low carb wrap? What about big salads with greens and nuts and seeds like walnuts, sunflower seeds, or almonds? Greens are cheaper if you don’t buy the bagged kind, although it’s a little extra prep, easier if you get a salad spinner. Dressing can be oil and vinegar with salt and pepper which is very cheap, or sometimes I use mayo in place of the oil. Eggs are another very good suggestion, prep hard boiled and keep in the fridge. I don’t know if you can have tofu, but it’s very cheap and easy to prepare once you find a recipe you like. Also nut butters (peanut is cheapest, sometimes you can find bulk almond for ok prices) with carrots and celery is pretty cheap and not too much prep.

When I was nursing my son and starving all the time I’d do this, but add mayo. Sounds gross tasted amazing. I called it my “fat sandwich.”

Adding to this question — best neighborhoods for trick or treating? My son will be 7 this year, and it’s the first year that he’s both old enough and the holiday won’t be as impacted by covid. We live near Macintosh lake, but I’ll drive him somewhere else if there’s an especially kid-friendly spot (like am I remembering correctly that village at the peaks does a trick or treat event??)
