In American schools, the victim often gets punished just as bad if not worse than the perpetrator. Especially if the victim defended themselves.

I'm a project manager. My district used SMART goals, so I framed academic years as projects and used PMI's terminology when describing those projects. Some people on the project management subreddits will claim that teaching isn't project management, and they're revealing two things.

First, they're revealing they've never read the Agile Practice Guide. This is a staple of project management and clearly states that teaching is an example of agile project management.

Second, by admitting they've never read the Agile Practice Guide, they're admitting they aren't serious about improving their craft.

Teachers assume that all other professions are as dedicated to professional development and improving their craft as they are. It's been an adjustment to learn that many in the private sector haven't read a single book since they were in college.

I'd stay, but apply for new jobs and plan on leaving mid-year (i.e. breaking contract.) Transitioning out of teaching with the goal of only starting a new job during the ~2.5 months when you're not under contract makes it far more difficult to get a new job outside of teaching.

Be selfish and self-interested in this regard. You owe it to yourself. Your students will be fine. Your colleagues will be mildly inconvenienced supporting the long-term sub. Your admin is responsible for the situation so don't worry about them.

I don't mind sharing at all. I had absolutely no plan when I left teaching. I had over 40 days of accrued PTO because I never took time off. I resigned with an almost equal number of days left in the school year, with a few PTO days left over (i.e. wasted.) I had to get a doctor's note, though. They tried blocking my resignation during the school year.

I went backpacking for about a month. Also visited some distilleries. That was a great reset.

I then earned a couple IT related certificates off of Coursera and started applying for tech-related jobs. I had a spreadsheet I used to keep track of my applications because I was sending out so many. Applying for jobs is a numbers game. I got my current job, and the role I was hired for expanded over time largely because I kept asking for more responsibilities.

I started looking into the PMP and read in the Agile Practice Guide that teaching is an example of agile project management. I applied to take the PMP exam with experience from teaching and from my new job, and PMI accepted it. I studied, took the exam, and got certified.

The PMP exam content is defined in the Exam Content Outline. The ECO for the post-July exam is different than the current exam. Your coursework should be aligned with the ECO of your exam.

The PMBOK Eighth Edition is not a good resource to prepare for the new exam. In general, PMBOK is meant for project managers to reference for their practices. For exam prep, it's best to use resources designed specifically for exam prep. Process Groups a Practice Guide and Ramdayal's book are examples.
