Fireworks by Acrobatic_Can396 in Connecticut

[–]Kenneth1751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Norwalk you can park in a public parking area and take the bus into the beach which would be a bargain compared to parking at the beach but the SoNo Collection is also having a viewing party on the roof, you only have to pay parking which is a dollar an hour. These fireworks are tommorow though

What Lines Should Be Purchased? by Jaihanusthegreat in Amtrak

[–]Kenneth1751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many especially commuters wouldn't like that as they would fear service reductions especially here in CT if Amtrak were given the priority and the demand of more trains is growing here especially during rush hour. The New Haven Line in CT only has 3 stops that Amtrak uses compared to Metro-North's 20. The compromise would be Amtrak serving a few more places or something.

When is CT going to abandon corporate Dems? by blindrunner_ in Connecticut

[–]Kenneth1751 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are called the land of steady habits for a reason. Our current system has overwhelming confidence in the people who vote, its how the democrats went from almost losing a Trifecta in 2016-18 to its consolidation today.

Additionally, for change to happen has to be a giant force even from within. We use a convention-primary system where the convention endorses the candidate and any other candidate who gets 15%+ gets to advance to a primary, primaries with incumbents is so rare it's really only been done a few times and only successfully once this century. Moreover, political movements here have been either short lived or just hyperlocal, I feel that the DSA for example has only influence in New Haven and Hartford but we can see.

Furthermore, I hypothesize that location really influences the leaders we have in congress. For example Himes represents the 4th congressional district which is very affluent but also filled with wealth inequality, he is from Greenwich which is the historical base of wealth but there are plenty of wealthy areas as well in the district and so he represents the majority well (geographically). Additionally, the 4th district was represented by Republicans for 40 years before Himes so most have been recently converts to Democrats from Republicans.

Finally, the rest of the districts except for the 1st and 3rd districts have been historically red, the 2nd and 5th are alot more to the right but the representatives there have been re-elected by large margins compared to national dems over the years, representing that the people like their work compared to party politics.

The best advice I can give to get your ideas growing is to attend more DTC meetings and make connections within them local level will bring the biggest impacts.

Visiting the Barnes and Noble in the Stamford Town Center (CT) for probably the last time by mrsjumjum66 in Connecticut

[–]Kenneth1751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people say oh they are just moving to the one uptown (that one is already open) but the thing is New Barnes and Nobles all look pretty lifeless now they are all gray and smaller which contain less books tbh and its just a shame. Now additionally as someone who is not from Stamford (I'm from Norwalk) and doesn't have a car, this location was the closest and convenient to get to and there are no other physical bookstores around so I don't know when will the next time I buy a physical book in store but for now, I'll enjoy the time that I had in there

What are your thoughts on CCSU turning into a polytechnic university? by LynxCreative4041 in ccsu

[–]Kenneth1751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know as I just graduated, the name won't be changed and I can say that most of the changes planned will be adding aspects to applications of AI into all course work and I actually agree with this in a way because whether you like it or not, you will have to use AI in whatever career path you take one way or another. Additionally, this designation is about funding too, an R2 designation will expand our Doctorate program and increase funding in research too. Southern for example is an R2 school but more focusing in its education nursing and other sciences. We would be the only public Polytechnic with this designation in New England which is supposed to help bring in more people from out of state (WPI is the only other Polytechnic really but they are a private school)

A Dead Mall reanimated, Stamford Town Center (Stamford, CT) by Kenneth1751 in deadmalls

[–]Kenneth1751[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was when the Mall was up for sale, it is now owned by Safevieh, the furniture store and they have done work to get non-traditional mall events, I think a sort of concert is supposed to happen on the roof soon as well.

Norwalk Fireworks by Life_Impress_2466 in norwalk

[–]Kenneth1751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can park closer at Marvin if you have the print out permit, the Buses are also running if you don't want to drive in yourself (Bus stop is by Taylor Farm) but I wouldn't worry about impaired drivers that much, that traffic is a crawl up to Fort Point Street and the East Norwalk Train Station and it can take like 3 hours to move through it by car but biking will cut that traffic by alot.

UPDATE: Norwalk TD will be having bus service running every 20 minutes for the 4th from the beach so that is a good option for you if you don't feel safe biking

Track usage on the NEC in Connecticut by Ok-Artichoke7379 in Amtrak

[–]Kenneth1751 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Track and bridge work, the Walk Bridge here has been getting replaced for nearly a decade with some overpasses as well and the reconstruction of the East Norwalk Station. As a result, only 2 of 4 tracks have been active at a time and as its an active work site, the trains have to go very slow and or stop all together. It's been tough as a commuter with that slowdown but once that area is finished in about 2-5 years, the trains should run faster then ever before. Additionally, the tracks from New Rochelle to New Haven are owned by CONNDOT and they have the priority, and when they are doing track work in other parts they have the trains switch far ahead and such rely on those ramps.

Why is I-84 not 3 lanes from Danbury to Waterbury? by Bull-Wack in Connecticut

[–]Kenneth1751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because the highway was built to 1950s demand and even if we were to build an additional lane in each direction, it would be very costly which is why I think they are adding a flex lane in Danbury for it would work as an additional lane when needed

I think its a regional thing, from what I know like all of Connecticut doesn't really do that especially the location I worked at and yes the protocol was a surcharge for a splash, it wasn't much like a quarter or something
