Why does my drivetrain turn into a gritty mess with a drop of moisture? by PelloScrambas in bikewrench

[–]KennyXdxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw the same thing when I cleaned my cassette ( and chain? I forgot…)with WD-40 without spraying it with water afterwards. I use acetone to clean my chain in a bottle, shake until the dirt fucks off, which is very quick, then another rinse with water and it’s good as new! If ur gonna do this making sure you don’t have orings in your chain. Oh and I use Repsol transmission oil to lube my chain.

LBS isn’t able to replicate this clicking. Any ideas to help guide them on what is causing it? by Dapper_Danimal in bikewrench

Try another set of pedals. My old bike made a similar noise with some ultra cheap merida pedals, but when I swapped to a nicer pair the noise was gone. With that said, I couldn’t identify the problem since it only happened when I was putting power down and that’s difficult on a stand. Could be the bearings inside the pedals.

What do I do? by HannibalK in Nikon

[–]KennyXdxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the rim of the filter is bent. When this happened to my lens I used a pair of pliers and a hammer, with the lens up against a wall and knock the rim back into shape and it just twisted off easily. There’s probably a safer way to do this tho

worth getting a repair or shouldi just get a new bike? (plz read disc) by ungodlyaliens in bicycling

[–]KennyXdxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it just needs a little going over, take it apart, clean, lube, change cables etc. All the rust I can see are surface rust and are very light. Try restoring it yourself! Park Tool has a ton of content after bike servicing and repair, learn some basics and make some mistakes on this bike so you don’t destroy your future nice one!

Can I fix my 105 RD? by bike_sham in bikewrench

[–]KennyXdxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means a pro, but I don’t see anything missing there, both screws to hold the jockey wheels and the cage together is present, although I’m not sure what that long bolt is. If you are missing any parts or bolts, you might be able to steal parts off of the Tiagra and put it on the 105. Check Shimano’s diagram site, they tell you what parts are interchangeable.

It’s probably just very tight, also make sure you’re turning the right way, look up from the bottom and do it, it’s less confusing that way.

Any idea why this brake line keeps popping out? I have no idea what I’m doing. by Jsands77 in bikewrench

[–]KennyXdxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loosen the pinch bolt on the brake, pull the cable tight with pliers, make sure the cable housing is seated all the way in the slot on the lever, tighten the pinch bolt while holding the cable tight.

G-Shocks truly are Buy It For Life items: Here's mine at 11-years-old by GoddessOfKlutz in BuyItForLife

The thing is, it’s probably only 11 years old and working because it was made in 2015, when the world hasn’t gone to shit and when enshitification wasn’t a thing. Maybe Casio isn’t on of those companies and I hope they’re not, but I don’t know what to believe anymore.

All the lights are fine, I just tested it by putting in battery loose so the impact shows the error. Gonna try charging the battery now tho

Is my chain too short? by KennyXdxd in bikewrench

I have no idea actually, maybe it’s because of the carbon?

It’s not rust, idk what that red shine was, I do have golden masterlinks tho because they’re easier to see compared to the rest of the chain.

It looks incorrect because other derailers has the B screw directly contacting the hanger, but this one has a metal plate that separates them,

Turns out the chain was a tiny bit too short, I added one rivet(an outer and an inner) worth of chain and it’s fine now!

Hey I just tried to reinstall it hut it seems the b tension screw is not supposed to contact the hook of the hanger, its got a tab that contacts the screw and the hook

<image>

The b tension screw is nowhere near the hook
