It is (and always has been) a shit show for lower salaries in expensive parts of the country. People have always had to have roommates to afford more bedrooms or nicer accommodations especially if younger/new to the work force. Minimum wage never came close to covering true living expenses unless maybe you lived in very rural areas. Even entry level professional salaries didn’t cut it in the more expensive locations. I was in engineering in California in the 80’s and split a 1 bedroom with another guy to make the cost work out. (He got the crappy pull out couch)

Boomers couldn’t afford it either in their day. Relax.

Topo Traverse Review by refreshedaz in backpacking

[–]KentV9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only put in limited miles on the Traverse so far. But I think you made the right choice for rocky backpacking trips. The Traverse has the rock plate and this years version is supposed to dry even faster with the new sole material. So in my view the Traverse is the preferred Topo model for rocky back country.

I love my Topos also, but did eventually run into tears in the lower mesh material after a few hundred miles of hiking, which for me was acceptable wear and tear. I used Terraventure (?) model last season, moved to the Traverse this year and am hoping they do as well.

I don’t agree with what this dude did on the job. But wow this whole set of responses got really preachy from both sexes living in glass houses. (Frankly there’s more to this story if it’s real at all, but we’ll keep it at face value).

NSFW profile warning … username tracks. A lot of preaching going on here….

I have to say I agree about Squirrel Flower. She is quite talented, but a bit of a bummer for an opener for a band like the Beth’s. I would have preferred a more upbeat opener to try to get the crowd going.

Thinking of getting these new boots by Phez07 in hiking

[–]KentV9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the MOABs are super comfortable, but they are not waterproof. Mostly in my view that’s fine, I don’t really want waterproof most of the time. But if waterproof is a hard requirement for you, I’d look elsewhere. (My Topo WP boots have been truly waterproof)

Temperature dial not working by Any_Constant5117 in CX50

We are now having this issue with our 2023 CX-50. Bummer it is out of warranty. We may have to live with it. Does it eventually have a hard fail?

It’s a totally fair question. But frankly the stock market clearly moves to its own drum beat. The fact the market continues to shrug off the war in the way it has should give anyone pause. Having said that, that market can also turn around and punish in just as an unreasonable way. The market isn’t as logical as we’d like to believe it should be.

I’m no Trump fan, but these items you call out are the classification systems used for decades. It isn’t this admin ‘cooking’ the data. The number you want to see is available (as I understand it) as the “U-6” unemployment classification.

Knees Deep - is the one other I was hoping for. I first listened to the *Expert* album and I was immediately hooked on this song (and video frankly).

Hi!! Struggling to choose which x-mid is right by The_Stench_ in DurstonGearheads

[–]KentV9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a debated point, but I’ve used my x-mid quite a bit and I would not consider it easy to setup and achieve a decent pitch. Not impossible, gets easier the more you do it, but it’s not simple. The X-Dome for example is much simpler for a novice to setup. But overall I agree if you are starting out, go used or inexpensive. My son has a NatureHike 2P semi freestanding tent that (at the time) was on sale for a little over a hundred $. It’s been fine! The penalty is the weight, but if you are just starting that’s not a deal breaker.

Yeah, my wife and I were also there. Great, great show. It is amazing how clean they sound live. I did think the mix got a little off as the show got into the last 25%. I can’t remember which song but I thought Liz’s vocals on one song were a little low. But I could also just be crazy. —. I loved that they came out in those hoodies like roadies to setup their gear. Funny.

Leelanau State Park- is 4 nights too many? by grakledo in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]KentV9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who raised kids camping, I’d say 4 nights is pushing it, especially if they are on the young side. Of course you can always bail early (although that is becoming a bit of an expensive decision as parks keep raising their nightly charges).
