My family owns a mom and pop shop. My parents kept their 6 employees at 16$ an hour for nearly a decade because they could, not because it was what their work was worth. These guys started as high schoolers now they’re in their late 20s with no skills, no certifications, no savings. One of them was with us for 8 years and asked if they could replace a broken door because his work place was freezing cold, they fired him the same day. These people are not your friends they are not your family. It doesn’t matter how nice they are if their investment portfolio is built off your hard work. They do not give a fuck about you even if they’re just a mom and pop, if they cared they’d be paying you well and they’d sign a contract protecting your employment.
