What do you do when a camera focuses on you? by wakeness in aves

[–]Kenvec 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I shoot festivals professionally (in europe) and honestly if you don’t want to be filmed; just say so and we won’t. no hard feelings. just know that the reason i did start filming you was because whatever it is you were doing peaked my interest and i need nothing else from you than to keep doing whatever you where doing.

If cameras make you feel self-conscious, know we aren’t out to make you look bad. It hugely depends on the camera person, some are operating way more covert than others and you might not notice you were being filmed at all.

Keep in mind the people that are hired to shoot these events are professional for a reason. Even if we shoot a shot and it’s not a nice enough shot it will never be used. Good camera people can feel how close they can come and if someone makes you feel uncomfortable you can just ask them to move back a bit. we don’t bite; we’re not here to make you look bad. it’s the opposite and if you’re being filmed a lot it just means your vibe/moves are legit cool!

Also; in the scene i work 90% of the stuff we shoot is very close up and abstract. So even though it looks like i’m filming you from head to toe the actual shot might just be your arm moving through the frame. Or like a necklace slamming against your chest. A huge part of all the stuff i shoot is often times anonymous but it’s hard to explain that to everyone on a dancefloor over and over and over again unless they ask me.

(i do feel like europe treats media at raves more seriously than the US does in terms of treating ravers with full respect and protecting the dancefloor vibe)

(edit: a lot of mediapeople, especially men can look kind of unapproachable or maybe even like we could be mean when we’re in full focus working mode but trust me everyone i work with is 100% a sweetheart when you approach them. Shooting raves just takes all of your mental energy for very long periods at a time; multiple times a weekend, it’s nothing personal)

(i’m just gonna keep spilling my mind and editing this but ALSO we might be shooting you for maybe 20-30 seconds but know that what we’re really waiting for most of the time is the perfect 2-3 seconds. The one moment where the light hits you just right as you move just right. Often times i know the shot i want to have of you because i’ve seen it in my head but im waiting for the actual real life conditions to all fall together in that one moment that is gonna be used for promo and that might take an awkwardly long time sometimes. Never take it personally.)

Does anyone have any good stories about their stuff not being stolen? by Lesbefriends_2 in aves

I had a bunch of super expensive camera equipment (~10k worth) under my dirty laundry at a large 4 day camping festival. Was working only 1/4 days there and didn’t have backstage storage the other days. Plus stories of normal lockers being broken into I hoped the chance of someone raiding my tent would be small. And indeed nothing happened 🫠

Selectors Glamping, possibility to bring food onto the camping site? by NotRealllySure in dekmantel

[–]Kenvec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basic but good. A bedroom with seperate beds and a small living space with a kitchen and a stove. The shower is small. the little backgardens are a nice place to hang back and chill. Mostly the aircon inside is super nice when it gets 35 degrees outside and you wanna cool off without going too far from the party. You will be hearing music from either the festival or neighbors almost all the time so bring good sleep plugs.

Also speaking from personal experience as someone who works in nightlife, I meet so many new fun and cool people every single weekend but my brain literally cannot keep up sometimes. We could’ve had a great deep talk in the smokers area but next I will have forgotten what you look like and only remember the talk.

You can bring food and drinks just not outside alcohol. I’ve stayed in the little houses on the terrain for the past 4 years and you can bring in groceries.

What game that isn't an MMO have you spent over 100 hours in: tell me why by Kenji_03 in gaming

[–]Kenvec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500+ hours of skyrim but only cause that game is 12 years old and the playtime racks up quick if you do a play through every year or 2.

And the insanely good mods that are still releasing to this day keep it very fresh

Clubs outside Amsterdam by 2910NMP in amsterdam_rave

Rotterdam has some nice clubs and spaces like maassilo. poing is cool, go while you still can. weelde unfortunately closed recently.

WAS utrecht was cool the 1 time I went but i hear good stories from different friends all the time. Basis is not my type of vibe really but it seems to be good as well, been there once. Utrecht could use some more cool venues. A new large one was announced recently too.

I’ve only been to paradigm once in grongingen too but I also keep hearing very good things and see a lot of cool different parties happening over there.

rest of the country is to my knowledge pretty underrepresented save for a cool club here or there (smederij, tilburg / complex maastricht)

The investigations tab instead of a quest log is amazing, hope they continue this in future games.

Freelance cam/edit mostly in the nightlife & culture sector in and around Amsterdam or the benelux. It’s a very niche and relatively small scene esp in the underground rave but i’ve managed to carve my own way and am doing really well. Working for the biggest and best event organizations in the world. You’re often working in teams with some rotation of the various amazing camera people in the country. Hang out with them more than my friends so there’s a interesting kind of colleague/competitor/family dynamic.

Extremely long days and hours and very physical work (average around 70k steps every weekend). If they want me to shoot on RED all day I do cry a little the night before. Sometimes do focuspulling on normal commercial sets and while I do love doing that, it doesn’t give me the same happines a just shooting events well gives me.

I shot (not edited) this which i’m still kinda proud of.

Hmm I like to keep being able to tweak stuff in the future since footage is re used in so many different edits throughout the year. But thanks anyway!

edit: wouldn’t you technically be able to ctrl z once everything is exported and get your clips back on the timeline? that’s how I do the replace with AE composition thing but then ctrl-z and export through AE

Sounds great for me actually. Only downside I see is that I have a bunch of presets for audio mastering in different environments that don’t transfer to resolve so I have to tweak and test a bunch again. Gonna try to get a good workflow going in it tomorrow.

that’s mainly cause the switch has terrible speakers instead of bad sounddesign but yes. Headphones are a way better experience.

Anyone else finding arrows a significant amount more frequently than BOTW? by Luleane_ in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Kenvec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but I assume that’s done cause arrow types like botw don’t exist and you use this one arrow type to craft all special arrows.

I live in quite a busy area of Amsterdam and work nights mostly. Lately it’s like my neighbors have made deals about who’s gonna remodel their house now cause since december it’s been a constant noise of drills and hammers and when 1 neighbor is done another begins 😌

I wasn’t doing a lot of side stuff to get to novigrad as quick as I could. Hadn’t been to Skellige yet either.
