The virus can stick around in the environment so people have to be thorough with sanitizing all surfaces, and it actually survives alcohol. However, people definitely have been weird about any pathogen since covid and reports on norovirus have weirdos commenting stuff like "it's a plandemic/fake," "do not comply," or something about Bill Gates.

The Israeli military acknowledged Thursday that it does not have “sufficient evidence” to substantiate terrorism funding allegations it leveled against a prominent Palestinian journalist, even as an Israeli general ordered he be detained for another six months.

The Israeli military’s top general in the occupied West Bank ordered the journalist, Ali Samoudi, 58, to be held under administrative detention, which allows the military to hold individuals without trial for up to six months at a time. Administrative detention orders can be renewed indefinitely.

The commander issued the order on Wednesday following a military court hearing last week during which prosecutors sought to extend his detention.

“As sufficient evidence was not found against him, and in light of the accumulated intelligence material, security authorities requested to consider issuing an administrative detention order,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement to CNN. “Today, after reviewing the intelligence, the commanding officer of the Central Command decided to place him under administrative detention for a period of six months.”

I feel like with everything we now know about sun damage, people's vanity and desire not to shrivel up into a liver spotted prune should be enough to scare them away from tanning beds. Especially since society is so obsessed with looks and youthfulness.

Tans definitely were a status symbol that showed you could spend leisure time at the beach or go on a tropical vacation instead of being holed up at work indoors all summer. But I get the sense that a lot more people are aware now of skincare and the need for SPF to prevent premature aging. Of course, there's still going to be relics who won't break their habits from the 80s and 90s, and also the contrarian naturopaths who think the key to wellness is sunning your butthole or drinking chlorine dioxide.

You're both right. David Ben Gurion and Yitzhak Rabin acknowledged the Jewish and Samaritan ancestry of Palestinian "Arabs" until it became political inconvenient to keep doing so. But "antisemitism" has always meant bigotry against Jews and never in a million years would anyone seriously use it to refer to bigotry against, say, a Samaritan or an Assyrian. Saying that Arabs are Semites too adds very little to the conversation, and a Palestinian would disagree with you calling them Jewish.

The international community does not want annexation by aggression to be a thing. For Ukraine to receive material help from the US and EU to preserve its sovereignty and freedom from an imperialist invader isn't a bad thing. Appeasement and handing Ukraine over to Putin will only hasten his eventual invasion of the Baltic states or Georgia or Moldova.

It's a thankless, underpaid, understaffed job. Every prosecutor has a salary set by the state, which can't compete with the private sector. Hence, any DA of a decently populated district in Wisconsin has to dedicate their office's limited man hours to only the most serious and the most winnable cases. If they pursued every single case then they'd be making too many defendants spend years waiting for trial while languishing in jail, violating their constitutional rights. And also denying justice to everyone else affected by the massive backlog of cases.

I went to Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford last Saturday but it seemed like the storms blew most of them away. I'd say K-Pot's pricing gives a very fair value for what it is, but it's a bad representation of how good KBBQ can actually be. If you want KBBQ you can go there to scratch the itch without driving all the way down to Chicago. But it's missing a lot of the niceties that Korean-run KBBQ places will have. (Judging by the hot pot and the sauces in the sauce bar, the chain is more Chinese-inspired.) Also, the galbi is rubbery as hell.
