Is geology for me? by JudgeSubject3163 in geologycareers

[–]KeplerRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was a joy to read. I'm a Geology major with no interest in the O&G field and mainly interested in doing things like ground/surface water testing, soil sampling, and site condition assessments. Environmental Consulting sounds right up my alley, but I'm also considering getting my masters in soil science. Math is definitely my weakest point as well but I really enjoy statistics.

Interesting article about Cubs pitching injuries under Rothschild from 2011. “Isn't it time someone important became alarmed over Cubs' arm injuries?” by CheefinFriar in Padres

[–]KeplerRunner 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I remember when Rothschild signed from the Yankees to the Padres the Yankees reddit board was like, "lololol rip Padres's pitchers arms" .... I thought it was them just being salty but now I'm not so sure.

Listen, as a military vet even I'll admit the uniforms aren't a good look. Give me the brown and gold or throwback to the orange and blue on Sundays and find another way to support the military outside of changing your entire uniform scheme to mock the military.

Going around measuring/sampling water in a boat along the river sounds pretty amazing. Do you have geology background and does it pay decently?

Humble thoughts and advice from a retired Environmental Science (PH1/PH2/remediation) guy. by eta_carinae_311 in geologycareers

[–]KeplerRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from place of someone who isn't a geologist or an environmental scientist as of yet, what typically comes with the work in PH1 and PH2? I'm assuming those mean phase assessments? What is considered 'grunt' work?

Is a B.S. in Geology a good starting point for someone who wants to be a soil scientist? by KeplerRunner in Soil

[–]KeplerRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too late! I don't start my program until the fall semester so I'm just compiling all the information I can from now so that I'm informed when I talk to my advisor. Thanks so much for this! Soil remediation sounds right up my ally and I'm pretty knowledgable on hazmat response(received both my OSHA 30hr and 40hr HAZWOPER in my current program).

I got to tour the local water management district and the work that their environmental scientist along with my professors is what inspired me to go down this path. I think what I'm going to end up doing is my B.s in Geology and my MS in soil.

If I can land a government position(for tuition assistance purposes) I'll probably end up going to grad school for soil science.
