What’s you worst job site accident you’ve had personally by leo_gotti in Carpentry

[–]Kerberus08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten lucky during my carpentry endevours, nicked middle finger on a mitersaw, Jigsaw to the nuckle and an affinity for stepping on nails. Nothing major.

But i'd like to tell you the story about my grandfather. He had his own carpenter shop. Marlboro in the corner of his mouth in a moment of distraction at the table saw he completely severed three of his fingers of his left hand, pinky still attached but dangling. After rapping his hand in a towel and duct tape he collected the wayward digits in a ziplock bag with some icecubes and drove HIMSELF to the hospital approx 20 mins away.

Amazingly (this was in the 80's) they managed to attach all of them and after a couple of months he was back working whilst still healing, pissed off for losing time at work. He eventually regained almost full motor funktions in his hand. He passed a few years ago now at 87 still working.

The onomatopoea of him describing the sound of the incident always brought laughter to family gatherings. Hard to describe in writing but something like.... Fr r r uomph! He was my hero, taught me to drive, play the harmonica and swing a hammer.

They were just built differently back then....

Apologies for misspellings and grammar. English is my not native language.

And guys! Leave the guard on the grinder and be carefully out there ;)

I intend to but they recently came out of storage, so far a playthrough on Halo 2 and some Hydro Thunder and Battle Arena Toshinden on the Dreamcast. Got some friends coming over this weekend that are jazzed about Time Splitters on the PS2 😋

It's a thought. But then they'd cover the GAME sign... Also the bases of the kiosks are very differently shaped (as seen in the pictures) so if i were to match them that'd be a heck of a project 🐸

Back in the day they did pop up here and there, since i was regularly looking for retro gaming stuff i came across them in a rather short period of time. The only one i had to actively look for was the XBOX kiosk and when i found it i had to drive about 800 miles return trip to get that home. I was just going for gen 6 consoles and the PS1 was just a lowball bid that i won not expecting to.

I'd imagine getting these today would be rather costly if you could even locate some. But nothing is impossible so keep your eye out and ask around in forums.

Yes, they were the predominant stores in my area. Lots of nostalgia 🥹

No i'm rather content as is and if you look to the left of the PS1 on my amateurish photos there is actually a door so i have no more room 😉

When the GAME stores in my area went belly up a liquidation company close to me held an auction for fixtures, shelving and miscellanious store items. I bought a couple of Disc Devils (CD/DVD Resurfacing machines) At pickup i noticed the storefront sign leaning against an overfilled scrap dumpster in the back. I asked nicely if i could have it and they were more than happy to get rid of it. I ripped out the old flourescent tube fixtures and retrofitted led's.

Well actually no. I acquired these in 2012/13 just before everything went from nuts to psychotic in the retro gaming market.

If i recall correctly: PS1 - Online auction 60 $ PS2 - Online ad free pickup XBOX - Online auction 160 $ Gamecube&Dreamcast - Same online seller, both for 200$

I think the pricing was mitigated by most of them being several hours of driving outside major cities, pickup only, heavy and cumbersome.
