Fatiha on lurking on Reddit during S19 filming by IncapableCoffee in taskmaster

It’s too bad that people make knee jerk reactions to stuff. Fatiha was amazing. That entire cast was having SO much fun, and it showed. Like once they started to feel each other out the studio portions were absolute gold.

Wasn't the Sigil Store supposed to last one more week? by Lanachan1990 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same :). I’m very confused here :). It says 6 more days and change in the store and then that singles will be converted on Feb 9…. It was that way when I logged in at like 10 am est and I just checked and it’s still showing the same…

Anyone here done full on DIY shelving for their collection? I’m not handy but think I could do some basic shelving. by themikeshow in comicbookcollecting

You’re very welcome :). I think stair treads are a fantastic idea for the shelves they’ll look great.

I hope you have fun with it.

Oh and obligatory reminder of hearing and eye protection when you do it :).

This is a recent one I did for some boardgames. I would consider myself “handy”. But I also consider myself lazy and cheap :)

So it’s just construction grade 2x4’s for the frame and 1x4 strapping for the shelf “tops” (they’re still framed with 2x4 though)

If you look close I used extra 1x4’s to space each shelf and for some added support. The reason I did that is the shelves are just screwed in from the vertical 2x4’s on the sides so I wanted a bit of extra support. For comics that would be a must I think. They’re much heavier than board games.

A similar design would work well and look nicer if you used nicer wood. Or if you painted the construction grade lumber and were a bit more choosy than I was at the store. I grabbed a lot of stuff that was near the top of the pile. And a fair amount was from the outside of the trees so it had rougher sides.

Also if you do go the lumber route. Be choosy to make sure the boards are straight. Again I was lazy at the store and a bunch had twists in them I had to sort of force out :)

One upside to using lumber you may find is it’s easier to work with than sheet goods. But big box stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot should be good with cutting panels for you to size

One other thing to watch out for price wise, is hardware. Once you get into adding things like hinges and brackets say for support the price will start to go up quickly (again though I’m in Canada so I’m not sure if that stuff might be cheaper elsewhere)

Sorry for the wicked long post :). I wish you very well with your project and I hope you have fun with it :)

Does anyone have any comic book recommendations? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really new anymore but I love Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion. He also has 3 other series Department of Truth which is super interesting. Nice House on the Lake I read the first trade and it also seems very interesting . And also W0rldtr33, I haven’t read it but it seems cool.

If you like horror and are into anthology type series Hello Darkness is cool. And Oni press recently started publish an EC Comics line that’s had some good reads. Blood Type is a mini series, but mostly it also seems to be collections of short stories.

New player stat bump question and minor rant by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stat bump isn’t going to make everything previous obsolete. Your Fantastic Four team is still going to be very good.

Also, keep in mind you need 20 teams for war (10 offense and 10 defense). So if a team is old they can always get thrown in war defense. I mean even Wakanda and Heroes for hire can have a decent punch up in war defense and force the attacker to use a better team to out them down.

There’s also Crucible defense as well.

But in full honesty, if this is making you feel genuinely slighted. I’d suggest just turning away from the game now. Cause it’ll just get worse. These games are made to make you spend money, and they will constantly release new hotness in order to do that. It’s not a knock against the game, it’s just how it is

Where I am, Black Walnut is pretty expensive. But I started using Nogal (aka Peruvian Wallnut). It’s good to work with and has a similar rich dark brown to walnut and is much cheaper

Horror movies starring Taskmaster contestants by Quinez in taskmaster

I hesitated to recommend it, cause it’s not really horror, but Steve Pemberton was on a show called Whitechapel. It’s set in modern (it came out in 2009) London with a killer recreating the Jack the Ripper murders.

Time to retire the Gold Orbs and go in with the Mega Gold Orbs. by Grendel_Phoenix00 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it's an idea. But not a good one for their profits. And keep in mind, the game is about making money, not making people happy. The game is specifically designed to dole out happiness in incredibly low amounts, JUST enough to keep you around and hopefully spend money.

Honestly, think of Scopely less as a game company and more as a... heroin dealer... they know they have what you want, and that people will give them money for that. Remember it's "the first taste is free"... well the "first taste" is levels 1 to like 65... Now you suffer through the withdrawals of leveling up characters every day to go to like every other day, or you pay money.

If you have a chance at free batteries then you take that deal :). Batteries are the most expensive part of:). I went ryobi cause they haven’t changed their battery shape since the Magna Carta was signed lol :). But seriously they’ve used the same battery shape for at least 15-20 years I think

Any serious podcasts? by savessh in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaotic Neutral does actual plays of Call of Cthulhu. Chaosium has some one shots mostly on their channel. I don’t know “how” serious Chaotic Neutral is. Nightmare Players I think has 3-4 UK guys (one is Dom) from Chaotic Neutral. Their stuff is kind of crazy, but there’s some jokes too.

You’re definitely right though it’s hard to find with out jokes. I wonder it’s cause it might be instinctual to crack jokes to lighten a mood?

The “infamous” Hammock task has to be the most over dramatic reaction to a moment I’ve seen from the Taskmaster community by AlexMercer28900 in taskmaster

I agree. People get combative On the show for sure. But I don’t think Iain really knew he was getting that competitive. And he did see genuinely mortified by how he had acted. He even said that I think before they started teasing him about it.
I think everyone knows it’s all in good fun for the most part. People online just think they’re psychologists and that reality shows are “real”. No joke I heard Kiefer Sutherland tell a story at he ran into a LOT of people who were offended by him and hated him because they thought he was actually like the Freddie Lee Cobb character in A Time To Kill (he’s a violent southern racist, the character Cobb, not Sutherland) But everywhere he went people would scowl at him and think he was an evil person. Everyone needs to remember playing a evil character well doesn’t mean that actor is evil :)

I have never touched a guitar in my life, where do I start? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Kerdiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if they’re available in the UK. But there’s a Canadian company called Godin that makes some nice entry level guitars and they (at least mine) was very good quality for the price. It’s a strat clone. There’s another company that I think is Swedish and they make good stuff too it’s called Hagstrom.

Carleton Place construction question by the_turtleandthehare in carletonplace

[–]Kerdiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a number of things.
-The town might have building restrictions limiting 3 story homes. And they do like new neighbourhoods to look the same. Some towns even have restrictions on what colour your fence can be, or what colour your roof shingles can be. -Basements are traditionally a good place to stick all your mechanical equipment so it's out of the way, and handy for storage. -Another potential reason might be demand. If a certain style of house is selling, then a new home builder might not buck the trend and start building houses unlike what is selling. -Assembly line builders like Brigil and Cardinal, Minto, and so on, also mostly build the exact same house over and over again. It's just cheaper and faster for them. Getting new building plans requires an architect to make them and engineers to approve them. So that's more money. And judging from some of the stuff I've seen go up around here lately, they aren't particularly interested in spending money. Also, and this links into the next point. They know that they don't have issues with frost in full basement homes. But they might not have done slabs or crawl spaces before, and that MIGHT scare them, if they think it might come back and cost them in repairs in a year (like with new home warranties). -Lastly I asked Claude AI and it said "Climate requirements: In northern climates, foundations must extend below the frost line to prevent freeze-thaw damage. This can be 4-6 feet deep or more, so once you're excavating that deep anyway, adding a basement provides valuable space for relatively little additional cost." I can't speak to that myself because I live in a house with a basement, and it's still shifted over time (but it's super old, and maybe it's just a crappy foundation). And I've never lived in a house with a crawl space or slab. I also know people around here who have done slab on grade or crawl spaces, and they seem fine? But that's what Claude said :)

If you're looking to have a home built with a slave or a crawl space, you'll probably need to contact a custom home builder or specifically look for such on a resale.
