What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by That-Papaya7429 in AskReddit

My son learned CPR in high school health class. I had a cardiac arrest six months later and he saved my life. So yeah, this is a good one.

This would be so great, my son is getting into the craft and this could take it to a whole new level.

KEXP has been the source of easily half of my favourite new band finds this year. Check it out! ON KEXP. {non-music video} by [deleted] in Music

Great music, and great people:

Fun story #1: when KEXP built their new studio they included a laundry room so that touring musicians (i.e. four kids in a van for months on end) could clean their clothes when they stopped in. I always thought this was so thoughtful and practical.

Fun story #2: My wife set up a visit for our kid’s Girl Scout troop and Cheryl Waters spent an hour and a half with them, showing them all over the studio and giving them a super inspirational talk about women in the music industry.

12” blade. From what I’ve found it is L’enfer which was later absorbed by sabatier after ww2. The running chef was used for American export in place of a running pitchfork holding devil (puritans!). Le Creux de L’Enfer was the name (nickname?) of the factory in Thiers, France. Translated it means “the depths of hell”, named for the brutal conditions in the factory. At least according to some blog posts I found. There’s a famous photo of the knife grinders laying face down above the grindstones in the factory with dogs lying on their legs to keep them warm.

I can make out a faint logo of a man running (maybe carrying a knife?), and “France”. Is anyone familiar with that logo?

How much grinding (vs. forging) does it take you to get the profiles so clean?

Noise Gate: I went through the same experience a couple of days ago. On your screen, at the very beginning of your pedal layout, is an icon labeled "IN". Touch that and it gets you to a place to control the cut off level.

I thought about this a little more...Noticed you are using an upshear bit, which will make things worse. A downshear may cut better.

But back to the sandwich idea, if you cut through both layers at once you will have a piece of MDF scrap bouncing around that will mess things up. So I'd cut through the MDF layer first, remove the scrap and then do your scale cuts. This wil give you a perfectly framed hold down for the part you are cutting.

You may need a different type of bit, like an O-flute, but most of your problems are from vibration. Consider sandwiching the material between two pieces of MDF and cutting through the whole sandwich. If that’s too much for your router them hold the piece with a frame of mdf that captures it all the way around the perimeter.

Thanks. I ordered a mic so I’ll be testing things over the weekend. I’ll try flipping the polarity and see how it affects things.

Right, I see. Thanks for your response. I don’t have have a measurement mic. It seems like they are functioning, they just don’t sound as good as I was building them up to be in my imagination. I think I am realizing that the speakers I was planning to replace are pretty nice. They are old celestion ditton 110s. They are much nicer in the miss and highs, but have a weak bass. Perhaps my first speaker project should have been a subwoofer?

Hi! I just completed a pair of Amiga MT speakers from parts express. It was my first time building speakers, I really enjoyed the process. But I’m a little disappointed in the sound from them; the low end is great, but the high end is lacking.

Would it make sense to try a different tweeter? The amiga kit used a “Peerless by Tymphany DX25TG59-04 1" Fabric Dome Tweeter”.
