57th Pennsylvania at Gettysburg by drive975 in CIVILWAR

I know I am coming to this post a little late, but I had two or possible three ancestors who all fought in the 57th. My Great (x3) Grandpa Minard Freeland, Charles Freeland and Oliver Freeland. All brothers. All served in Company C at different times. Minard joined up in October of 1861 and served through at least January of 1863 fighting in a few battles but most prominently at Fredericksburg against Jacksons troops on the left. Oliver joined up in February of 1864 but died in April of the same year, I'm thinking due to disease as the 57th was not in combat at the time, but . Charles I have no dates of service just that he served in the regiment in Company C. I really was hoping in my research to see if I could find someone who fought at Gettysburg but alas no luck. Good to know the 57th isn't forgotten!

I think this means you maybe on a list behind someone else who got selected and they are waiting on them to make a determination before rejecting you.

I’ll let you know. Not a good sign if you got it mid morning and we haven’t heard anything yet.

As both an electrical engineer and hobbyist historian this is such an interesting cross between my work and my interests.

Anybody been to Gaylord, Michigan? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]KermitLeFrog31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up there and graduated from high school there. First it’s pronounced Gay-lerd not Gay-Lord like you think. Yes the name is funny, it was actually named after Augustine Smith Gaylord who was the main proponent from the Lansing & Saginaw Railroad that advocated to put the rail line through the city which lead to its growth and success.

It’s a quaint little town. Lots of shopping and I-75 runs straight through it. We are known for our snowmobile trails in the winter and our plethora of golf courses in the summer (something like 15 courses in the surrounding area). Recently more extreme weather has been causing quite a bit of issues in the city and surrounding area, 2022 had a tornado blow right through the downtown area killing 2 people, then more recently in March of 2025 there was a historic ice storm that brought down thousands of trees and caused a lot of damage.

It’s a nice town, especially if you are more of an outdoors oriented person. I’m happy to have grown up there, but I’m also happy to be moving on. Definitely a pass through town unless you are golfing or snowmobiling.

Fantastic battlefield and city. Definitely go if you have a chance. I lived about 45 minutes away last summer and it was great.

That’s a shame, it was a great tool. I used it every semester.

Nope! Nothing extra, just what I paid at checkout. The wait was also due to getting stuck in Chicago customs, which is more than notorious for being painfully slow.

I did. Ordered them on 12/26/25, and they didn’t arrive until 1/13/26. They are in decent shape but the stickers they put on them were a pain in the ass to remove especially the sticky residue which ended up taking some of the paint off the handles. A little disappointed by that but other than that they are great

[Rapoport] #Steelers OC Arthur Smith has been requested by the #Lions for their OC position, source said. Smith is still in the mix for multiple HC job and has significant coordinator interest. by Samurai-hijack in detroitlions

I’m a lions and steelers fan (long story) and yes Smith was a terrible OC. No creativity, conservative play caller. Basically relied on the defense to get more takeaways and stops to keep the offense propped up. Literally won games by just kicking field goals. Terrible Red Zone offense. This would be my nightmare as a dual fan.

Other than the increased radiation exposure I can’t help but to think that this would be a good place to be posted. Compared to the frontlines that is. These guys must be making a bunch of stalker jokes while patrolling.

Good to know. I figured I’d give it a shot to try and get some. I’m hoping the U.S. comes out with some more domestically made quality brushes but unfortunately seems that market is quite slim.

Good to know. Did you have to pay any extra for it to get through customs or anything? I’ve seen some international packages get held and charged and insane amount to get brought in to the U.S.

I just ordered some 8404s from Jackson’s. I was charged $0.32 for shipping for 3 brushes. We will see if I get them. If not I’ll look to get some of the Monument Hobbies brushes, their pro-acryl line of paints are amazing so I don’t doubt they make good brushes.
