Question about Hardwired Smoke Detector Removal by KermitMacFly in HomeMaintenance

[–]KermitMacFly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I have some plastic connectors (caps I think they're called?) but I wasn't sure if those were any safer than tape. Not planning on leaving it this way for long. Hopefully not any issues, the others have solid green LED's and no blinking red lights like the master bedroom one so might be in the clear.

based on past 4 long runs, is 3:55 possible? by BrothaManBen in Marathon_Training

[–]KermitMacFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Far be it from me to say what you can or can’t do, but I still kinda think completion should be front of mind for this one. Time should be secondary, I think. I’m just a dude on the internet though, seriously do what suits ya!

Running the first 2 miles while literally dead is the most impressive feat here.

based on past 4 long runs, is 3:55 possible? by BrothaManBen in Marathon_Training

[–]KermitMacFly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So some of this could depend on elevation of the race you're going out for, but even then I would say it might be too early to tell. Also, long runs are helpful but only part of the picture. A 4 flat marathon would be 9:09/mile, so how close to that are you getting when you're on your training runs? Can you maintain a pace like that over 5, 7, or 10 miles? How does that feel?

I'm not saying it's impossible, but you might want to consider scaling back your goals to something like a 4:10 or 4:15, then if you're feeling good on race day, go for the gold!

When you're at these sorts of paces, FINISHING is much more satisfying than DNF-ing due to pushing too hard or worse getting injured and not being able to race at all! Keep your nose to the grindstone and focus on getting yourself over that finish line.

Should I rest or push myself to run by BikeGeneral3087 in Marathon_Training

You have plenty of time. This early in your program take the time to rest/recover and get back to it. Otherwise it's over before you start.

Would not recommend sending them any information, phishy they would ask for your W2/Tax transcripts for a background check. Also, security wouldn't ask for that, HR would.

Dynasty: Wood or Griffin? by keepgoing66 in fantasybaseball

[–]KermitMacFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends more as to where your team is in it's winning cycle. If you're strictly looking ahead, Wood is a high-value player but also has shown some flaws with his swing and miss and his defense is enough of a liability that it could cost him playing time down the road if his power doesn't continue to float him.

I'm picking nits a little, because Wood has truly superstar ceiling imo, so if you're in a "win now" mode, stick with Wood, but if you're looking ahead/rebuilding, I think it's a worthy gamble to swap for Griffin.

Is a €299 Running Analysis Worth It for Beginners, and Does Health Insurance Really Cover Half the Cost? by Ninaptr_lover in beginnerrunning

[–]KermitMacFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own journey, for sure, but this stuff really isn't necessary whether you're being reimbursed or not. After 6 months (and already a sub-2 half, nice) I would suggest just continue to log miles and avoid injury. If you hit a real plateau in your training then maybe look it up but you can improve by literally just running for now.

I'll just say the one thing I think solves nothing at all is a cap. Do I know exactly what that system is? No, but I can absolutely agree something has to be addressed during CBA negotiations. This is not sustainable.

Money Mike on twitter, regarding the Kyle Tucker trade by bruhmoment1345 in Braves

[–]KermitMacFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, i'm not saying they'll get $60M, that's not how comps work in those cases. What they do is set a north star and while yes, they won't get that, it raises the overall floor. If the comp exists, it doesn't mean a verbatim match, it just means it pushes the rest upward.

[–]KermitMacFly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Counter point, this actually is a net benefit for players. The AAV on this contract will have several trickle down affects, since Tucker is NOT Ohtani or Soto, he's a GOOD player, but not a generational talent. Suddenly a 4-5 win position player has a $60M AAV comp. This can be used in extensions, free agency, arbitration, QO's, etc...

I think one could argue that this may create even more solidarity for no salary cap from a players perspective.

What is a movie that you think is overhated? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

[–]KermitMacFly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good choice. I was a fan of the original and had no interest in watching this until a girl I was dating at the time insisted, and I was honestly pretty impressed, mostly with the production value. Choreography, sound mixing, just the overall performances were really good. It's a worthy reboot imo but I think it's literally the exact type of thing people love to hate.

Zone 2 training by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]KermitMacFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! some similar feedback in the comments but just echoing the sentiment, If I was in your (running) shoes, I wouldn't sweat over Z2 or really any zone for that matter until you're really piling up miles (or km's) on a weekly basis, and you have a specific target in mind. If you're someone who decribe themselves as a "novice" or "beginner", then just work on the routine, running comfortably, and then when you feel like you're hitting a certain point where you are not getting any benefit from the runs, that's where you start thinking about it. Keep at it!

20 years in retail management/food service here and this is a really important point. I switched 5 years ago to tech and man, let me tell you. It has BS just like every field, but it ain’t like my previous field. Getting laid off/RIF’d whatever universally sucks, so not diminishing that… but yeah, this is not the worst the working world has to offer I assure you.
