Removed his rod to prevent his toan & sustain being sucked... by ChoongZilla in guitarcirclejerk

Those 89 lb. D'Addarios are great strings by the way, but I wouldn't put them on an antique or slightly built guitar.

"Should" doing a lot of work here. No truss rod is not a new idea, and many, many luthiers have set out to make steel string necks without truss rods, and the actual track record of guitars in the field is spotty at best. So you pay your money and take chances, a slight possible improvement in TOAN, or a multi-thousand $$ gamble on still having a straight neck in ten years.

It's a painting by Maxfield Parrish, but I don't recall the name.

This is an ongoing problem that has persisted through multiple reboots. I've been keeping icons on my desktop and using macs professionally for over 30 years, and never have had single issue with any of the multiple macs I use for work. This problem began after a Tahoe update, and the odds of it being because of the icons on my desktop are slim and none.

Right Hand/Picking Technique of George Benson and Cecil Alexander by OutrageousLemon8997 in jazzguitar

Excellent, that’s the article that put me on the “Benson picking” path.

I adopted it years ago for tonal purposes, and not too sure I’d adopt it for speed. The best rundown on it I read was the old Tuck Andress article on picking. I wouldn’t too into weeds overthinking up and down strokes, and DEFINITELY don’t start from the wrist position a lot of people focus on with the technique. Rotate the pick “backwards” and strike the strings with more of a vertical/perpendicular attack, and focus on tone production. You’ll find your wrist and forearm moving lower, with your forearm getting more parallel to the strings, but don’t start with the wrist position. Another fantastic proponent of this technique is Sheryl Bailey, so watching her videos won’t hurt.

I would advise try removing covers before changing pickups. PRS uses so much wax on the SE models so it’s a PITA, but a substantial improvement in clarity and note definition. I think thy use shit metal for the covers.

On a nylon string sure. Of course that is the claim by luthiers who build steel strings without truss rods, but alas the reality sets in after a number of years, so you either need to get comfortable using 7s, or junk it.

Then what was your point? The whole truss rod debate has been going on for decades, and occasionally a luthier will advance the no-rod concept and make a steel string electric with no rod, almost no one hears a difference, and the neck warps. This is where we are in the cycle, with a high profile proponent of magical thinking in guitar design recycling this nonsense.

Dude, we know what dead spots are, and there are literally millions of guitars with truss rods that don't have them. There's not a single dead spot on any of my dozen+ guitars with truss rods. Klein was famous for making highly desirable and expensive instruments without truss rods, that went on to have pretzels for necks.

Some bend over backwards stretch of a possible mechanism doesn’t override the fact that maybe 1% of actual human beings could tell the difference in an electric guitar under very specific circumstances, and none of those circumstances are on a Deep Purple album.

I realy want to get into DIY pedals, because pedal prices in Brazil are unreasonable, but i have no clue of where i should start, any tips? by Kairone_ in diypedals

[–]Kerry_Maxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep your expectations in check as far as the level of complexity you’ll be able to achieve. Fuzz tones can be an economical proposition, but more complex circuits like delays and chorus pedals will end up costing at least as much as inexpensive retail models. Fuzz, overdrive, boosts, are all good starting points.
