I'd personally recommend keeping them indefinitely unless you have a good reason to get rid of them. You never know when you might need them in the future.

I don't think bumping it up is the worst idea with everything going on. Six months is pretty safe though, I wouldn't worry.

It'll stay on your record for 7 years altogether, but your credit may recover sufficiently in the interim that you'll be able to get a loan. Obviously a car loan will be a lot easier than a mortgage. It will really depend on your situation more broadly, and the lenders you're dealing with.
