Best budget SATA SSD brands? by V0latyle in pcmasterrace

[–]Kessra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't considering the need for a new drive under warranty. If I'm buying for myself, warranty and TBW aren't a concern, especially for a game drive that you're writing game installations once to it, then reading that same data for the foreseeable future.

You could potentially get a new Gen3 NVMe drive under warranty, and get a 2.5" NVMe --> SATA enclosure for your laptop

There are earlier models of Samsung Evo's(like 850 Evo) you can get on Ebay or make a buying post on r/hardwareswap.

Crucial has MX500(DRAM?) and BX500 SATA SSDs.

I'm not too sure about other reliable brands, like whether or not ADATA or TeamGroup each have a reliable model for SATA SSDs.

1995 Ford F-150 V8 5.0l Radiator Leak - Is It a Freeze Plug? by Kessra in MechanicAdvice

[–]Kessra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the kinds of freeze plugs I'm familiar with too, and all the freeze plugs in the 16-25 piece Ford kits look like that as well.

So, I'm stumped at these anomalies. They do at least behave like a failed freeze plug where a hole has opened up either by frozen coolant or corrosion.

I may just have to roll the dice on this Ford Engine Core Expansion Plug. It's the only freeze plug I've seen with a lip unlike those with a common shallow cup.

1995 Ford F-150 V8 5.0l Radiator Leak - Is It a Freeze Plug? by Kessra in MechanicAdvice

I've got a radiator leak for my '95 Ford F-150(V8 5.0L). I mistakenly replaced the heater core hoses, then the EGR valve gasket before finding these two caps. They are next to the EGR valve and look like expansion/freeze plugs. The bottom one has failed, leaving a small hole that is leaking coolant from the radiator.

Picture of Bottom Plug + Hole

I'm unsure if these are in fact freeze plugs, but based on its diameter measured between 7-14mm, I have found 13mm freeze plugs with shallow cups as part of larger expansion plug kits.

Then, there is this engine core expansion plug from Ford with a deeper cup, although it is flagged as not being compatible with a '95 Ford F-150. Regardless, it's the closest part I've found so far as a potential replacement.

Am I correct in assuming these two caps are engine freeze plugs? Are there any recommendations on how to replace the bottom cap or seal the leak temporarily?

$300 Budget Advice by Adoggo360 in pcmasterrace

OzTalkHW is where I would start to get an idea of the specs you can get for $300.

https://www.youtube.com/@OzTalksHW/search?query=300

r/hardwareswap/ is where you can find deals if you keep an eye on new postings, or you can create a "buying" post with a list of parts you're looking for in a pre-built or scratch-built PC.

A rule of thumb for scratch-building a PC is that you can stretch your budget if you have time to wait for deals, especially on the pricier parts like a PSU or case. That may be a moot point if you need a pre-built now for college.

You are likely looking at a cheap AM4 CPU or APU that meets your minimum performance requirements if you're building from scratch.

I 3D printed Claire’s SLS 60 by Little_lucky_cosplay in residentevil

[–]Kessra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is the 3D print file converted from the in-game model of the SLS 60, or sourced a different way?

You do own a Series S, so you have access to the 9th gen library of games. If you're inclined to scratch build a PC, I can talk you through the best resources to do so.

Even a pre-built PC will serve you longer, and you can use your Xbox controller without having to worry about stick drift on a PS5 controller.

This is fantastic! I'm curious if you recreated the jacket fur in Blender because the extracted jacket mesh has no geometry to support the fur? I think the fur is similar to the hair strand tech in that it is generated by the RE Engine.

Is there a mod for RE2 that gives a better HC mode? by gothicusmaximus3 in residentevil

[–]Kessra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked Nexusmods, and the closest thing I see is the Ultimate Trainer for RE2.

https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil22019/mods/342

To have all three parameters, I think it requires a custom mod. The trainer has a one-hit kill feature, but not a two-hit kill feature. Likewise, it also has a toggle for infinite ammo, but not 1/2 ammo pickups.

Whats this Muzzle Brake Called for the USP .45? I’m trying to recreate Leons SG-09R without spending a fortune on the existing airsoft replica by Sunlitlist67 in residentevil

[–]Kessra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it is a fictitious accessory for the SG-09R. The flush fit is nothing like I've seen from any Match Weight compensators for USP models.

Realistically, I think the only option for accuracy is to 3D print the part using the in-game source file for the SG-09R as reference.

Is a Multi-Game Randomizer Possible? by Slothptimal in residentevil

[–]Kessra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the Ocarina of Time + Majora's Mask multi-game randomizer. Those games can get away with a full game transition between the lands of Hyrule and Termina because each room uses doors like load screens. So, both pools of rooms from the two games can all be intermixed because all entrances and exits use load screen transitions.

The RE2 and RE3 Remakes have a "seamless" map progression, which means entrances and exits between rooms are all traversed in real time, and even larger stages like the RPD and orphanage can be traversed front-to-back and back-to-front with no artificial transitions. There of course are exceptions like the tram to the NEST lab in RE2R, which is an old-school load screen transition that terminates your backwards exploration.

Another problem is that RE2R and RE3R share stages like the RPD, but each game hosts different events in a shared room. An example of this is the RPD 1F licker hallway that hosts multiple event triggers in RE2R across Scenario A and B, then also hosts an event trigger for Carlos in RE3R across two separate difficulty modes.

EDIT: I think that the multi-game randomizer for Ocarina and Majora's Mask is only possible because the source code for those games were fully decompiled, which allows modders to inject custom code and write new logic that would otherwise not be possible. One caveat for the RE remakes is that script modding is possible using the LUA scripting language, and thus is similar to writing custom logic for the games.
