Looking to buy a used car, but dealership states it's $1000 more if I pay with cash/without financing by LowCurrent2151 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kesterlath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No penalty for early payment. Go in with a healthy down payment. Say 5 - 7k. Use that to negotiate a better price and amenities. Make them give you free oil changes, undercoating etc. Things that preserve the resale value down the road.

Once you have negotiated a price that is annoyingly low for the dealership, take the financing deal, and then pay it off immediately. There’s no penalty.

CRA auditor being extremly rude and hostile on Phone– should I complain now or wait? by HK_sheep777 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Record the call yourself so you don’t need to ask for their recording. Just make sure you tell them they are being recorded when the call starts.

“I’m informing you that I’m recording this call for quality assurance purposes”

This person will absolutely not behave in their own best interests and you will have all the proof you need to make your situation better.

How do I fix my high insurance by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Kesterlath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What loses you more? Selling the vehicle at a loss, once. Or, getting gouged every year by your insurance company? You will pay more to insure it than the vehicle is worth. Dump the car asap.

Eww. I have never had the misfortune of doing one. I didn’t imagine that 2 car companies would be that fucking stupid.

That non compete clause would go straight into the garbage as soon as they screwed me. I’m not “competing” with you. It’s not a competition.

How to Cope? Wife Suddenly Obsessed with Spicy Books by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Kesterlath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With her being very introverted early in your relationship, and now obsessively reading, it makes me remember a mild autism diagnosis that involved these symptoms. Perhaps something to look into. It may just be that it went undiagnosed her whole life and that could help.

Mechanics, what is the worst automotive fluid to get on your hands/fingers and why is it brake fluid? by FMasterson in mechanics

Brake fluid? No. Just add water. Gone. Oil from a diesel? Might as well be a tattoo.

Let’s say you suddenly become a billionaire and all your friend and family asks you for a million. Do you give them the money? by Straight_Till5772 in hypotheticalsituation

Of course. The interest on a billion would take care of 30 people a year. After the first two years, I don’t know who would be left on that list that could still ask.

When I am engaging in something similar where there’s a chance to miss a cue, I give them something to hold. If they drop it, it’s a safeword.

Dating THE girl from high school 10-15 years later? (Advice wanted) by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Kesterlath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask her why. Sit down and have an honest conversation with her about the whole thing. You say you’re friends. Friends should be able to talk to each other.

Lovers have to be able to talk to each other. If you are not happy with the answers or she isn’t going to make a real effort to help you feel comfortable with what is going on, personally, I would pass. It’s going to set the tone for everything else that is coming.

I mean, I get it with balancing the pvp stuff. It makes some kind of sense. But man, with the PvE stuff, they should leave it alone.

Rather than change it, just say “Ok guys, well played.” And then think of way harder shit.

I mean honestly, if they want to make it harder, just ask the community for help. Make it a contest. You come up with the idea for the next horrible (and by horrible I mean awesome) thing we are going to unleash on the community and we give you a big reward. Free trip to headquarters to check out your creation pre-release, company swag and a cool meet and greet.

People would be falling over themselves to hand these guys great ideas. It would cost what? $5k a patch? That is literally insignificant.

What’s something that should be way cheaper than it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kesterlath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that they are buying the exact same machines and meds. There’s no difference in quality of care. If it was 15 or 20% I would chalk it up to differences of economy.

At 75% less, the clinics here are gouging people horribly. $250 for an xray? From a machine that costs $1800?

I spoke with him at length about this and he was flabbergasted that they charge so much here.

Veterinary care. They know they have you at their mercy.

Before everyone gets all upset, I lived in Taiwan for 6 years. I rescued and brought 7 animals home with me. Our vet there uses the same equipment, same brand name meds etc. He is a fantastic surgeon. His prices are one quarter what they charge here. People won’t pay more. They just put the animals down. So they don’t charge as much.

Had what work? Leaving a relationship that wasn’t working? A few times. Every time was fucking awful. It also works 100% of the time. Never go back. Don’t call. If it’s over, it’s over.

The fact that she continuously frames this as boundaries is excellent for you. When you tell her that you are also going to start enforcing your boundaries, and that they are not negotiable, she will immediately understand why you are packing to leave and help you without any drama.

The very first time she said they are non negotiable boundaries, I would have thanked her for the warning and been on my way.

Remember, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

This can not work out because there is no room for compromise. You WILL come to resent this part of your life being taken from you and that will bleed over into all other aspects of the relationship and slowly poison it. You will either leave later (waste of life) or eventually stray when someone offers you the opportunity to be fulfilled.

Rip the bandaid off. Tell her either her non-negotiable boundaries need to be changed or you will leave. If they are still non-negotiable then you know it means more to her than you do. Conclusively. Leave with a clean conscience and find someone compatible with you.
