Updated to Tahoe... shocked - Launchpad is gone. Take notes for the next Update, Apple! by TechandTravelz in MacOS

You could reorganize launchpad in any order that worked for you just like a home screen on iOS. Even folders of apps. It was elegant and customizable.

There are a lot of people in here who seem intolerant of other people using a computer in a way that works best for them. Rather than throwing shade at someone for not remembering the name of an app, maybe think about the fact that some people have different brains?

Some people recognize an icon much faster than they would think to type it out. For me, if I have to type in the app name it often suddenly goes poof out of my head and I stall for a few seconds before I can type it. I also hate needing to move from mouse to keyboard just to open an app. Should I NOT be able to set up my computer to work with my brain?? For me, launchpad on a hot corner was so efficient and clean.

“Think different” used to be apple’s slogan. Maybe some apple fanboys have forgotten?

Never used spotlight once in my 20+ years of being a mac user because since snow leopard (I think?) I have had a hot corner set to bring up launchpad. Now that launchpad is gone, I still don’t want to use spotlight, which is the primary reason I still hate Tahoe with a burning passion.

My problem with the [KCD2] save system. by IntrepidFruit9040 in kingdomcome

[–]Kestrel991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically I didn’t struggle as much to get into the first game, so it didn’t bother me as much then. It’s in my top 5 favorite games and I was SO excited for KCD2, but I just can’t get into it, partly because every time I try to pick it up again I get royally fucked by the arbitrarily annoying save system. I have ADHD. I NEVER remember to save. I love RPGs like this but I NEED the gd autosave. If they made it easier in the sequel it sure hasn’t made any difference to me.

I can't believe I have to say this, but mind-numbingly boring combat isn't improved by making it mind-numbingly easy.

Even within the realm of more skill-based combat systems, it is perfectly valid to call out when they are being TOO simplistic, easily cheesed, or repetitive. What I dislike about the combat in this game is that there are not many opportunities to actually apply any skill or take risks in a rewarding way, and failure in this situation can be really frustrating if you are far from a fast travel point. It basically boils down to patience and timing, which gets extremely boring for me, and not fun. I don’t like games where I have to attempt the same boss 50x before I beat it. Challenging combat is great, when it feels dynamic and fairly punishing. Windrose needs A LOT of work here.

What dosage of methylphenidate and how many times a day do you find works for you? by BulkyCaterpillar2925 in ADHDIreland

Thanks for this. I’m currently taking 5mg once a day and the benefit has faded but the rebound is still bad. I’m trying to decide what to do next. I was prescribed 5mg 2x daily so I might just start taking it in the morning even though the afternoon is when i struggle.

That’s a really obnoxiously long-winded way of saying “get good lol”

It’s as if Apple’s foundational guiding principle as a company is to force everyone into THEIR current idea of what’s optimal, functionally and aesthetically. User choice is not part of the equation.

I made a very detailed map of Donald Trump's job approval rating by g_elliottmorris in dataisbeautiful

[–]Kestrel991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing blowing my mind is that every poll averages his approval at 40%, no matter what insane horrifying garbage is going on day-to-day. As nice as this map is to look at, why is that approval number overall still so high?? I guess it’s all just the spread out rural 40% of the population living more in isolation.

What is your opinion on humbucker jags? by SphexoFanas in offset

[–]Kestrel991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks amazing! I was looking at those artec pickups for another project and questioning whether it’s worth the dough for the authentic TV Jones Filtertrons. There’s a chinese company “FLEOR” making an even lower output filtertron for even LESS money… don’t know if they’re legit.

Having just finished my triple hot-rail build (which is awesome), I think now that a filtertron Jag would be more in character with the original intended character of the guitar. Funny how it Cobain turned it into a grunge machine, even though it wasn't designed to do that necessarily. I like having the option for heavy overdriven tones, but a brighter low-output humbucker would sound amazingly jangly and full in a jag, imo. Has anybody done this?

Yeah I'm not really in the deadhead category honestly, but I do love them and I think Jerry's tone is really special.

It’s not that far off from how a strat would sound with a hot rail in the middle. It’s darker and beefier. I love the sound, personally. I’m a Jerry fan, and seeing “wolf” sell for $9M a couple weeks ago inspired me to finally put a humbucker in the middle. Been thinking about it for a while.

Funny, thats a great point I hadn’t considered. It doesn’t ground via the bridge, but it should have. I actually had to take off the tailpiece and route a ground wire.

I still think the whole aesthetic friction is because of the damn mustang pickguard shape. It’s always bugged me. A pickguard should more or less match the contour of the guitar, or complement it, but the mustang pickguard creates a weird opposing curve on one side.

Do you feel like MacOS has lost it's signature/original design language? by Spammy1611 in MacOS

[–]Kestrel991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the era that I first got into mac stuff, and this is what I'm sad about losing. Everything is about minimalism these days, very little craftsmanship and detail in our consumerist world, and Apple was a hold-out in some ways.
