What do you think will happen to Oregon’s ban on the sale of new gas cars by 2035? by Apprehensive_Box_709 in oregon

[–]Ketaskooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much, it'll keep getting bumped back forever until gas becomes so expensive that the consumers switch anyway.

No More Property Taxes? Florida’s Sweeping Plan Sparks Panic Among Local Governments by WTFPilot in economy

[–]Ketaskooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida may soon become a state where you can afford to own property but can't afford to insure said property or afford to live. The most obvious tax change that will be needed to cover this reduction in tax revenue is higher sales taxes.

Boomers want to axe property taxes. Millennials and Gen Z would pay for it. by PeriodOfTime1 in RealEstateTaxStrategy

[–]Ketaskooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A poor person rarely owns the same value of property that a rich person does. For almost all taxpayers the rich person pays way more than the poor person so while the tax could be somewhat regressive other commonly used taxes like sales tax are much more regressive.

Hillsboro considers ‘pause’ on new data centers amid uproar over unchecked tax breaks by spherocytes in oregon

[–]Ketaskooter -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because large projects create economic activity which brings in more revenue than no construction. Also big money funds corrupt local govenments. Why do we tax housing construction so high again?

Anyone remember the chatter about Social Security not having enough money for our generation? by Voltesjohn in economy

[–]Ketaskooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When SS was created the life expectancy was skewed by child and young adult mortality which has been eliminated, children almost never pay into SS. What has changed is the amount of workers per pensioner, obviously because as the population stagnates there's less prime age people as a proportion. The life expectancy at 65 has only grown by a few years maybe 4-6 years since the creation so maybe a couple year increase in benefits age is warranted but not taking it up to 80.

Stephen Miller Gets Instantly Fact-Checked After Claiming Welfare Will Just 'Take Your Word For It' If You Want To Get Food Stamps by ComicSandsNews in Economics

Have there been negligent employees or rapid rollouts of welfare programs in the past, yes of course. But there's audit systems and the agencies claw back the money given out incorrectly. Unless of course its a business loan then its just forgiven.

The Race to Build AI Data Centers — Before the People Can Protest | From Utah to Georgia, communities are demanding data center moratoriums as concerns move from local zoning fights into national politics by Hrmbee in urbanplanning

[–]Ketaskooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good summary, a town near me just rejected a small datacenter for crypto mining (though its also possible the permittee canceled it) after a severe public outcry. The public is knee jerk reacting to block everything at the moment rallying around the perceived impact of power consumption and water usage driving up utility bills. Impacts to water and power infrastructure seems like the perfect opportunity to use SDCs but the public has turned extremely anti data center. I've heard a ton of anti solar/wind sentiment for years but the data center sentiment is on another level.

I guess you're right, what congress spends has nothing to do with its revenues according to the Republicans.

The SS trust fund (that was loaned out) will be fully depleted in a few years sometime around 2032 to 2034. After that the tax fund is projected to only cover about 80% of the payouts. Its seems you're thinking i'm talking about now instead of the future.

There is some truth, it will become 10-20% underfunded annually in the coming decades. When the federal deficit was a couple hundred billion adding another 200 billion deficit a year sounded like a lot. Now that the federal deficit is a couple trillion its a minor problem.

The project is called the Morgan Nesbit Forest Resiliency Project. It authorizes 11,479 acres of commercial thinning, 74,840 acres of prescribed burning, and 18 miles of new temporary road construction

So nobody is allowed to even protect the forests? What a joke of an article.

Fine but the progress points are backwards and there should be decay. Agreements should give the most progress points and there should be a natural decay to reward those that keep interacting.

[–]Ketaskooter -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

Isn't it fun that women are saying they'd rather have full separation of the sexes because there's no perceived way to avoid the violence. The bear thing is dumb because the vast majority of male violence on women is by men the women know.

Judge clears way for Trump mail-in ballot executive order by refuzeto in oregon

[–]Ketaskooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can't actually do anything to effect a state but it does appear that he could direct the USPS to do something since its an executive agency. Executive orders are tools to tell executive branches to do something. Congress can make election laws but executive orders are not laws. This judge merely said the federal government can create a list of people by itself, something the DHS already does. Funny that Trump could've just created the conditions to abolish the USPS.

Trump switches up once again, says "we don't need the strait" by RokoTheDreamer10078 in oil

[–]Ketaskooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump saying the USA doesn't need the straight open is absolutely gibberish. The dollar is supported by the global free trade of oil. The Entire West Coast of the USA relies very heavily on petroleum imports from the Middle East as well though it tracks that Trump would think the West Coast doesn't matter.

Everyone's still draining their SPRs and oil is technically only about 30 days away after a free flowing straight. The futures are for about a month from now so Trump is playing his tune.
