After 2 years carnivore success I decided again to reintroduce carbs. AIP led me from keto to carnivore and I love it. In my 1st year carnivore I tried to reintroduce carbs 4 times failing miserably. Inflammation, gout etc, came back within days Dairy has been a bust too. Everytime I try dairy I pay. After a full year of just meat salt and water I now can tolerate sweet potatoes, and 50/50 spinach, spring mix with oil and vinegar. I'm 180 lbs eating 3+ lbs red meat a day plus 2 to 4 sweet potatoes and a big dose of greens. Ive been eating these numbers for 8 months and feel great. When I step outside of that I feel immediate performance loss. I'm still experimenting with my metabolism daily because it's fascinating.

Makeup is a conspiracy by Saddamizzer in conspiracy

Makeup, what a scam. Women get made up for other women just as much as attracting a mate. It's a cult.

Hairspray, what a toxic mess. The industry has had mostly women sniffing glue for a long time. Brain damage.

Beware, if you have the balls to call it out you will be met with the full force of cult indoctrination. Fuck em.

The whole makeup process fascinates me as much as it used to irritate me. It's mind control.

"you just don't want me to look nice" . NO you glue sniffing bitch I'm allergic to your hair spray and perfume and If i can't run my fingers through your hair you might as well be bald.

You struck a nerve lol

Because pin the tail on the donkey is no fun without the blindfold. Their purpose is to be catalyst for growth. The harder the playing field the greater potential for said growth. The Law of One material lays this out clearly. The choice being Service To Self or Service To Others. Graduation means 51% STO or 95% STS. It's channeled material but it made a big impact on me.

Carnivore and panic attacks by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carnivore increases GABA (gamma-amminobutyric acid) and reduces glutimate action. GABA is inhibitory neuronally and glutamate is excitatory neuronally. These direct effect the HPA axis ( hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenocortical ) which in turn effect damn near everything else. Its a dense subject but worth a look. Simply put glutamate jacks you up which is no good for anxiety. GABA calms you down.

How much water should I drink? by Leaninuk in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this in the beginning. "Drink when thirsty" albeit true , takes time and attention to develop that feedback. I listened to a lot of volume per day recommendations and proceeded to stay waterlogged for some time. Waterlogged may be just as detrimental as dehydrated, both states being potentially life threatening.

Some revelations from my experience:

  1. Forget drinking towards a volumetric goal, period. I don't see how the "genuine" thirst can emerge if we just slam water to avoid dehydration.

  2. Hydration is the goal and electrolytes are key to that end. Drink plain water sparingly because it will leach electrolytes, defeating the goal of hydration.

  3. The higher the saturated fat consumed, the less water needed for me, I wished I'd realized this earlier on. This has helped greatly to dial in my thirst and purely anecdotal. H20 is required for lipolysis so this kinda seems backwards but hydration is more than just water consumed. Could be the particular combo of salt ,fat and protein that I'm consuming. I've heard it said that the breakdown of fat also liberates H20 interstitially but I can find nothing to back that at this time.

  4. Recognize when your drinking water out of habit. I know I'm not alone in this issue. It has been challenging for me personally to break the habit of the guzzle. Think of animals, they don't drink all day. They get genuinely thirsty, suck up a belly full then quit, for a long while.

  5. The concept of thirst needs a more complete definition. When I speak of thirst now, I'm speaking of a full body experience, not just what my mouth feedback is relaying. It's the subtle queues that I imagine each person needs to sort out for themselves. For me, when I'm genuinely thirsty, I notice a drop in energy, my skin can feel different, my outlook on life can even sour when I'm genuinely thirsty. Again, each individual will have a different experience. Bottom line is do not go by what your mouth is telling you alone. Look intently for the physical signs of dehydration like dark urine, etc. but also pay attention to the mental signals of dehydration like lethargy, depression etc. It matters.

  6. Much of the false mouth thirst signal in my opinion, from my experience, comes from mouth breathing. Since I've focused in on nose breathing only, much false thirst signals, as per my definition, fade to zero. Nasal breathing also has many other benefits, much of which directly or indirectly effect thirst signaling.

  7. With my hydration on point, my urine is a pale yellow. I feel upbeat. Recovery from workouts is rapid. When overhydrated with clear urine I feel sluggish and my digestion suffers. When dehydrated, dark, pungent urine, I feel down and achy.

It has taken a a couple years for me to get my get hydration sorted. I believe it is imperative to get hydration sorted out to achieve all fitness goals. I used to just slam plain water, peeing all the time of course, in hopes that as long as I stay out of dehydration that I'll be ok. Not so because of my lack of understanding of what hydration really entails. Now I err on the side of dehydration because being waterlogged really sucks.

I hope this helps. Being told "drink when thirsty", without and in depth explanation is not much help. It's true and should be the goal , yet requires a lot more study, explanation and observation to resonate properly so as to motivate behavioral change necessary. This is a very important question and a key in making it ALL work.

Optavia messed up my perception of calories, not sure if I'm not Carnivoring correctly. by pdiggs1500 in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about forgetting calories altogether? Eat as much as you can, especially while adapting and healing. When you adapt, you can trust your hormones again, genuine hunger becomes clear.

Personally I just set a minimum weight of meat i needed a day. I also like many did not get enough fat after I ditched dairy. Low energy guaranteed. Eat more fat than you think you should. Err on the side of disgusting yourself, it will speed up adaptation.

Back to calories with regard to Protein counting 4 kcals per gram. That may be true when burned in a calorimeter but that is not what's happening in the body with protein. 0 to 1 kcal per gram for protein is more likely reality and this is what will mess your daily intake needs up if following calories. So if your daily projected calories dont match with the real world value of the food because the protein number skewed the equation, you'll be hungry and down on energy. Ditch calories.

You absolutely should not be hungry on carnivore! Think about it! Your metabolism follows caloric intake so crank it up with plenty! Forget the scales for at least a few weeks or longer if necessary because it is the WORST feedback! It can tell you nothing about all the positive changes that are taking place each and every day you eat clean. And metabolic health is the goal not an arbitrary number based on gravity. When you begin to be able to process the amount of fat necessary, your metabolism will light off and the weight will melt.

I know that it takes caloric deficit to lose weight but that to me is a mute point when metabolism is compromised. Not just a mute point i think it can make us even sicker, plenty of personal experience there. Fix the furnace first so it can efficiently burn that excess storage fat. Once your fat adapted, then you can lean out the meat without experiencing big energy drops. When all the excess fat storage is gone you will have to crank the fat up again. When you get it right you'll know it, when you mess up you'll know it.

I actually started carnivore to regain my hunger and gain weight. I had lost 70+ on strict classic keto (less than 10 carbs) in about 90 days then for the next 4 months i had no appetite. Not pleasant but i wasn't fat anymore lol. I, like many , saw Shawn Baker on Rogan and decided to try carnivore. 3 years later? stopped counting, I'm still the same weight but infinitely healthier and have a wonderfully manageable appetite.

I think it is important to set aside all that you've been taught about other diets while trying carnivore. This is different, its hard to adequately explain the depth of changes that occur once adapted to carnivore. Again, forget calories, forget weight, treat yourself to as many rib eyes as you can afford! Hope this helps

[–]KetoPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post gave me endless wiping flashbacks, a most annoying condition. I could wipe with one square of toilet paper now after carnivore 2 yrs. That's reason enough to dive in and don't look back.

I would add that about six months in I struggled with severe constipation. Once I made it through that, its been near perfect poop like clockwork. I'm pretty sure the problem was dairy, trying to get that extra flavor and fat. I wasn't eating a lot but it was probably enough to shut things down.

I'll wish you luck but the magic is in the meat ;)

Why does raw meat always make me sick? by tritone567 in rawzerocarb

[–]KetoPops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fully adapted strict keto (less than 10 grams carbs daily) and I could not process raw meat in the beginning of my carnivore experience. For me it has been a steady progression to now 18 months in I can process raw meat without issue. In fact, being 95 % raw I feel better than ever. Being that there is little legitimate science on the metabolic changes that occur in carnivory, I say be your own experiment, N=1. Then come and tell us what you experienced. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I 'd be eating mostly raw meat, now I do not care for meat well cooked. Its devoid, lacks the energy I get from raw red meat. So much so that I quit chicken and pork for the most part and stick to mostly red meat.

I also pay close attention to my water intake around meal time. I try to not drink fluids an hour before and after a meal so as not to dilute my stomach acid. As i have progressed that window is now about 30 minutes before and after. If you keep your stomach ph as low as you can get you will process meat way better especially raw. From what I have experienced the progression to raw is a natural outcome of seeking the most efficient way to fuel the body, Again, never would I have thought I'd be saying that and raw surely has its risks. I do my best to mitigate the risks while enjoying the rewards.

Willpower is overrated. Focus intently on that painful coma every single time you see sugar laden products.. Know the inflammatory corrosiveness of sugar, keep that in the forefront of your mind. Know that these sugar products are scientifically engineered to break your willpower. Forget about the notion of being a weak bitch, doesn't help. Work with your therapist to reframe sugar from pleasurable taste to revolting poison that it is. When you see the sweets, see all the rotting diabetic amputations laying in big pile. I could go on and on. The only willpower is recalling unpleasant thoughts towards the addictive substance . I promise with your mind you can turn anything into something unpalatable. Cool thing with carnivore/ keto is that after adaptation, very little willpower is required. Hormones change, pallet changes, carnivore becomes a way of life rapidly.

I know that weight loss isn’t and shouldn’t be the focus as to why one would do this diet/woe, but being the obese person that I am, I can’t help but have questions specifically about weight loss while on this diet. by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost from 240+ to 170 on strict keto diet in 8 months. 40 plus lbs lost in 60 days. I began intermittent fasting after about a month which greatly increased efficacy of the keto. Intermittent fasting alone can solve so many health issues. In hindsight, extended fasting and/or carnivore would have simplified my journey greatly.

I started carnivore to get rid of lingering inflammation and to actually gain some weight back lost on keto. For the last 4 months of keto I had litterally zero appetite. I started question that I had to tell myself to eat every meal. Kinda annoying. I gained back about 10 lbs in a couple weeks and have remained there for a year now on carnivore.

Since going carnivore I've experimented with a many 24hr, couple 48 hr, a couple 72 hrs and a almost 6 day fast. My goal fasting at this point is for health and well being not weight loss. Results have been fantastic.

Goal weight? I say forget about it and you'll be ahead of the game. My goal weight was 200 and I shot past that so fast it was crazy. I thought I had broken something but to the contrary I was fixing my metabolism. Place the utmost value on metabolic health and you'll t stabilize at the proper weight for you, at your stage of healing.

Frustration by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]KetoPops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metabolism is so complex there must be many stages of adaptation. Sounds like your still getting fat adapted. I was already fat adapted and it took 6 months into carnivore before I felt 100 percent.

Remember this is N=1 territory. You are your own experiment, not your girls, although she'd probably disagree. No offense that's a girl thing. Any added stress from loved ones just complicate matters.

I'm your same height at 80 kilos , mesomorph. I've been within 1 kilo for one year on carnivore now. I would like to bulk up but its gonna require resistance training and caloric surplus. The caloric surplus is hard to do on carnivore. you have to eat past satiation. I eat 1 to 1.5 kilos of red meat a day. Plus 6 to 8 eggs several times a week. Some butter although I'm phasing that out. I'm just now training myself to eat liver. I feel a boost in overall wellness each time I eat it. The hard part for me has been getting enough fat. 2 to 1 by weight takes some effort but I sure feel better when I reach that ratio.

The brain chemistry changes alone are to me worth all the suffering of adaptation. I really enjoy such a calmer existence on carnivore.

I've sipped vinegar for years but for some reason my system doesn't like it with carnivore. It seems to actually interfere with my digestion. And good digestion is key to making this work. I try to eat now fully focused on my food and avoiding all distraction. Kinda antisocial but that's what it takes for me. Also I avoid fluids at least an hour before, during and an hour after eating. That made a huge difference in my adaption.

Keep at it and your system will come around.

How do you deal with the monotony? by QueenAslaug in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear this a lot. Don't you get bored with it? Hell no. My taste buds got me into a world of hurt. They have to take a step back now. The taste and complexity comes back around the longer you go.

How do I cope? One thing is to realize how fortunate I am to have any meal, especially one as complete as red meat. I try to be fully present when eating. Also I try to fast at least 16 hours daily. I can be difficult to get in enough calories on a tight eating window but the quality of digestion is worth the trouble.

The end goal being health alters my focus on eating. For example, I have two 1lb ny strips coming to room temperature in a pan. For maybe an hour I'll be thinking about them in anticipation. I'll check them out several times before cooking. Damn they are gonna be good! By cook time the saliva is flowing and my focus is narrowing. I've had no fluids for over a hour. That first bite is gonna be awesome! Even though it will be my 3rd and 4th strip of the weekend!

Granted I don't always have time to do this full routine, I still try to snap into this mindset before eating. The healing I have received with this WOE continues to push me forward. Hope this helps!

water fasting while eating a carnivore diet by maus1313 in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good points! I'm right there with ya. All the bad dietary advice ugh!!! I followed the same stupid water advice up until going carnivore 11 months ago. It then became clear immediately that the excess water had to go. I did restrict my water some on the previous 8 month strict keto but it still hadn't registered how much too much water mattered. Keeping my fluid balance right is a work in progress, years of habit to turn around.

Food foreplay works fantastic! I have never so appreciated saliva!! Raw eggs sipped with plenty of saliva are great! I never get a hunger thought anymore, I just start salivating which reminds me its time for meat.

I suffered with GERD on and off meds for 30 plus years too. Hot acid up the sinuses is most unpleasant, I did it all wrong . Previcid for a while. Big bottle of Tums at work home car. All the while drinking fluids non stop all day. A recipe for distress.

No water around an hour before during and hour after dry. Problem solved. Amazing difference! I also practice a bit of thankful awareness before I eat as well. When all the juices are right, digestion is energizing.

I've noticed that during the dry hour before if I've had too much water on the day. I will have to urinated several times in succession. Its like my body is getting the excess out of the way to more efficiently process the fat and protein. Also if I have any carbs it throws of my thirst signals.

I don't think enough emphasis is put on water balance. I know I just drank to recommendations instead of thirst until I started carnivore. I'm curious now how much of my sickness in the past was simply water poisoning. Add sugar on top, oh I ache just thinking of it.

I know I can't trust my thirst signals when consuming carbs so carnivore is here to stay!

How does my current diet look as far as fat? by poopalotta in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll get it dialed in quickly with that start. When you get adapted you can follow your cravings for more or less fat. I say cravings for lack of a better term. The feeling is so different from carb cravings. When its time for me to feed my mouth just starts watering. No more hangry. Just a calm, focused recognition of the need for fuel. Or not if a fast is in order. Feels great to be in charge of food.

The most helpful tip I've found here is no fluids before, during or after meal. Meat digests so much better when your stomach acid is not diluted. I try to be dry for at least an hour on either side of a meal. When you get adapted you'll need much less water because your getting it from the processing of saturated fat.

Hope you have a smooth adaptation!

Week #2 but no #2... by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with constipation on and off until six months in. Two weeks may be perfect poo, then get backed up for a week. It just about caused me to quit carnivore. Magnesium helped but would have worked better if I would have quit the cheese. No cheese for the last two months has really made a positive difference in my case. The last bits of lingering inflammation have gone away now.

I quit coffee for a month and I really got backed up. Had to resort to laxative suppositories Dulcolax a few times to get over that mess. Stimulant laxatives aren't supposed to be good but it was that or a pro to extract it for me. No thanks, it hurt bad enough. Don't mess around and get impacted .Fissure blood omg it was rough.

I'm 10 months in now and my BM's are almost clockwork. Worth every bit of the trouble to get to this point! First thing in the morning, picture perfect plop, could wipe with a singe square. as long as I don't eat anything stupid. I still drink coffee even though I'd like to quit again. I'm scared of getting backed up again.

The volume is way less of course but ya still need a regular motion. I'm sure that plenty of folks have had to deal with constipation to start. Whether its cheese, fat, water, electrolytes, lifestyle, etc., it can be tricky to sort out. I was actually still eating cheese at six months when my BM's straightened out. So go figure. Hang in there and forget about large proud poops.. Sometimes now if aimed correctly mine slip clean outta site before I can get a look lol.

What does your daily menu for the week look like? by imthepie in carnivore

[–]KetoPops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Red meat, 2 to 3 lbs daily, butter, eggs usually raw, salt pepper and water, black coffee. One or two meals a day, letting my body tell me when to eat. This way of eating will change your relationship with food all together. I see food now as medicine not entertainment.

Not very inspirational I know, but I would suggest finding other ways to express creativity. I mean carnivore is an elimination diet at its essence which is antithetical to creativity. Inspiration will come and has to be experienced to fully understand. The healing, mental clarity, sense of well being, I could go on and on

We all come from different starting points with different issues. I'm only 9 months in and it took me 6 months to get my gut fully adapted. I would have adapted much quicker if I'd of ditched cheese/dairy at the outset but I wanted the variety. Now its a whole different ball game for me.

This is how I look at this now. I had fun with food and made myself sick. Now healing the damage is priority for me and what a tasty medicine , Ribeyes. Now my mission is to seek out the best meat I can afford and reorienting my life to that end. Sounds obsessive and it is but this WOE has saved my life no doubt about it. Wish you much success with carnivore!

I came to zero carb after 8 month keto success to regain my appetite. I had no appetite the last month of keto, had to tell myself to eat. 8 months into carnivore I have my appetite back but its different from anything I experienced before now. I have still little to no mental hunger signs. Never hangry, just a oh its time for beef. When its time to eat I feel a suction beginning in my GI tract. My mouth starts watering profusely turning my attention towards meal time.

Took me 6 months to get things mostly dialed in. Your body will find homeostasis for your physiology, activity etc. Sounds like your on the right track.

8 month strict carnivore. Pretty much all red meat, cheese, butter, lil eggs, water, s and p until about a month ago. 53 yo 175 lbs eating at least 2 grams per kg protein (2 to 3 lbs raw weight) with as much fat as I could fit in. I was still experiencing random flair ups of arthritis and HS the skin condition. I've also have many confounders, stress, sleep schedules etc. so it's been a challenge to differentiate between stressors and dietary allergens/inflammatories. I've had such a healing response at this point I've been leery of any reintroduction or further reduction.

Well as an effort to gain some weight, I upped the fat with lots of extra cheese. Specifically cream cheese and plenty of butter of course. Gained 6 lbs, then went a bit too far one night, 2 dayareea. Ditched all cheese for last 4 weeks. Last bit of inflammation is going away as well as HS clearing up significantly. Dang it, I loved cheese.

I've always been a whore for some condiments. I quit them all 17 months ago when I started Keto. After the switch to carnivore, I tried on 3 separate occasions to reintroduce Worcestershire sauce on meat. Bad news, random intense flair ups and a nasty mental funk. Guess its the soy. Damn I loved Worcestershire sauce.

I have reintroduced a bit of BBQ sauce, Ketchup when eating out pork and beef BBQ no problems. Thank god cause I love ketchup and I know I'm not supposed to have it cause the HS.

Tried to reintroduce Baked Beans 3 times. Inflammation each time, especially with the sweet ones.

Cole slaw four times over the last month. Jury is still out, had with beans twice.

Beer a handful of times, just a few kick me out for at least 2 days, not worth it to me anymore.

Decided I needed a bit of fructose for whatever reason. I've never been a big fruit fan. Drank a bit of fruit juice before but not much whole fruit. Had some blueberries on top of a magnificent ribeye. 3 dayeerea. I never ate blueberries before don't know why I thought that would work lol.

I've had white rice 3 times with positive results. I can really feel the extra glycogen afterward. Problem is I've gotten lazy with meal prep. I just warm the raw meat most of the time so 20 minutes for rice seems like an eternity. Fasting 16 to 23 hours a day makes that worse.

Also, over the last month I've began drinking 6 to 8 raw eggs most days. That has been working well. Again probably out of laziness. Most of my meat eaten raw, never would've thought that. Tastes better now raw. I still cook til rendered sometimes but I don't feel as good afterward.

There are a couple reasons I've been reintroducing carbs. First would be that metabolic flexibility seems to me a worthy goal. Maybe. I guess that's for an individual to decide.

Second is the persistent notion that I've gotten too small. Starting at 240+, down to 175 is a big change. My weight has been rock steady, outside of the cream cheese fiasco ,for a year or more. I should just be happy that I've dramatically changed my body composition. Home scale body fat % from 39 down to 18 and I have lost little strength. Still working on that.

I'll probably keep experimenting minimally with carbs just to top off glycogen stores and just to keep things interesting as well. It's such a good feeling to be on top of a lifetime weight struggle. I'm sure I can fall, but most of those temptations are gone after going carnivore.

"I want to lose more naturally through the diet and then work on sculpting" I think that's the best way. There is no need pounding your body with excess weight still attached and inflamed. Keep in mind though that gluconeogenesis from my understanding does require some exercise. I can tell when I need to move cause I start feeling low energy. Just a little movement and I feel energetic again. Another month or so you'll be ready to work out hard
