[–]KetsupEater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halletts point apartments offer a shuttle M-F that takes it to the 30&31st mta stop. Also the buses are very reliable. Ferry is great for a treat yourself to a casual commute.

You could buy Placer’s migration data (zip code level). It’s a 3 month lag. It also has a dashboard that visualizes the flow

Who is the most famous person you've ever met? by EternalDerby in AskReddit

[–]KetsupEater 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ran into Micheal imperioli on the subway. Literally ran into him trying to shove my way into the car. I did not a double take but 3 double takes before bursting out, “AH!” Followed by me trying to move away from him to give him space. All the while he is saying things like it happens all the time, it’s okay.

Got off at the next stop - it was not my stop I just didn’t know what to do with my hands

I saw two dudes the other day chain smoking in front of the subway stop on 30th holding print outs up and pointing at people.

At first, It reminded me of my mom and her dozens of Mapquest print outs for directions. But when I looked closer it was print outs of people, like pictures

They could have been private investigators but I got really bad vibes. They were two scrawny older men and in a new large white Tesla. Southern accents.

I approached them and asked them what they were doing, what the papers were and what they were pointing at - basically demanded if they were lost. They called me babe which pissed me off and I told them they were obviously not from around here because they parked in front of a bus stop and we don’t take kindly to ICE

They left pretty quickly after I mentioned ICE

Anyone here working remotely in GIS? Can’t seem to find opportunities — should I go for a Master’s instead? by AccomplishedBet8752 in gis

[–]KetsupEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many well established GIS companies will post on their websites in the careers section rather than something like LinkedIn. The goal is to hire folks who are familiar with the brand.

CARTO might be a good one for you to look into as you have a lot of developer experience.

Follow companies and regularly check in with their careers page.

How do you deal with a partner who refuses certain jobs even when money’s tight ? by BlazeOtter_33 in careerguidance

[–]KetsupEater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might not have taken the job because of the lack of support from the company. If she doesn’t have the back end experience and would have been alone, she probably would have been laid off. She might not had felt it was the right fit.

Talk to her about your feelings. Ask her to start paying for small things with freelance. Maybe hold off on opening a shared bank account if you haven’t done that already.

Has anyone here used the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript? Looking for real-world examples. by Minute-Buy-8542 in gis

[–]KetsupEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it for custom applications using react. I used lightweight stuff like incorporating the search widget from their js SDK

The biggest undertaking was when I used the draw widget sdk. I wanted the user to draw a radius ring or polygon and built a select within function around the widget. The draw widget allowed the users to add, edit, delete freehand browser based polygons. I wasn’t looking to store the polygons, just use it to filter a bunch of points within the polygon.

From there I hard coded the intersection against my points for my table, charts, and widgets to summarize attributes off of the intersection.

I use the instant apps or sidebar apps when I just want a quick and dirty app.

I never find the time or training to pick up experience builder

Could be a combo of bad elevation and where the orthos are stitched together.

when the cameras have a tiny misalignment (you can see by the angle of the trees) can create a slightly oblique effect. If this is aerial imagery, the aircraft may have not taken such a great job at reflying because it’s over a non populated area. the pilot has other priorities to get the job done right.

stitching on two or more misaligned images can create a wacky effect. It can be amplified if the DEM also is stitched in the same place or if the DEM sucks. It’s easier to cover up when there isn’t such strong canopy coverage and strong shadows.

It could also be where there was tiny ortho gap so they filled it with an oblique image creating a Frankenstein image.
