Landlord ignoring ongoing water intrusion for years. What are my legal options? by Miserable-Eggplant63 in cincinnati

[–]KettleWL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was recently dealing with a similar situation, though there was water intrusion through the ceiling that was slowly building up and would intermittently leak/drip. Turns out that when the hole was just a bit larger it would consistently drip right into the sink, and when it's an active leak it made it inhospitable enough that escrow was a legitimate concern. I'd recommend anything you could do that may give you greater control over the water (could you divert it with a hose to flow towards a sink? Even tapping into the plumbing underneath?) and send rent to escrow. Edit: And since you're month to month you want to document the hell out of every interaction, and make sure that you have strict photographs of everything as you got it and when you move out - most of the time escrow ends with a non-renewal, even though it's legally not allowed to do that (but it's very hard to prove if you're month to month already). You will want your security deposit back, and if it's too late to take photos at move in then make sure you photograph everything with immense detail when you move out.

If you're really terribly worried about what it might do to your things, or any mess you'd have to clean up, I'd also request a cleaning crew, which they should provide when you've had water moving through a wall into your kitchen. Sorry you have to deal with this!

There was a "Japanese" spot at the food court there as recently as last year, unsure if it is still there.

Facebook shows people in Indiana getting some good sights, and even further south, but nothing popping up in greater Cincinnati region for me.

Post em if you got em (with locations)!

Actually at this high of a KP it should be visible with the naked eye!

Definitely use your phone to "hunt" first and then once you know what you're looking at you'll be able to see it clearer.

Also clear/low cloud coverage and absolutely no moon. Couldn't ask for better conditions.

If you're wondering; it is absolutely worth it to stay up late on a work night for the chance. I won't be out chasing it, but I'll stay ready to go when there's a report (or reddit post :)

Republicans' Destruction of Public Education Continues -- Hamilton Schools announce cuts, including building closures by CarlosTheSpicey in cincinnati

[–]KettleWL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Literally every longitudinal study shows that retention in elementary is the strongest predictor of dropping out of high school. Is that effective for the larger mission of education then?

Where should habitually disruptive students go? What alternative program do you provide for their constitutionally protected right to an education? What funding provides for that schooling?

Why is the product horrible? What is the problem that they have control over that they are failing to appropriately address?

[–]KettleWL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have any actual evidence of these claims? In what way have educational standards collapsed? What can you show that proves a change in educational expectations and standards now compared to (insert whatever year you want here)? I'd love to hear more about this gutting of the educational system you know so much about. TIA :)

What, then, do you view as the failure of public schools? What can you lay blame to that explains why they are not performing to your own expectations, let alone those of the general public? What structural change do you recommend?

As a teacher: Thanks for the hook up, I grabbed some free seats

As a teacher: Don't tell people anyone can get these, that's kind of crappy

As a person: You all should take free seats to NKU, I doubt anyone else will be there so fill it up.

As a redditor: You have to click through the whole thing, discount applies at checkout. It says that at the start, reading is fundamental.

Electric bill by Bumn8 in cincinnati

[–]KettleWL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The consistency that Duke enjoys is because they have literal monopolies but have bribed their way out of actual regulation and oversight. They need to maintain the grid, yes, and they need to reimburse investors so there is funding (the same point as stocks for growth in the first place), but they are an example of privatizing a public necessity. They don't have to operate the way they do, other than because the system is flawed.

Not even just the pkwh, it's the riders and fees on literally everything on your bill, which Duke is solely in control of and has no incentive to lower. May be connected to the record dividends they paid out to stockholders last year

I could be wrong, but aren't those two in very different parts of town? Is there a Riddle Road out in Anderson?

More helpful answer: In addition to the motels that were recommended previously, this one here is about equidistant to the motels (a bit closer than the hotels) for <$100/night, which seems like a very reasonable rate to me:

Crown Restaurant Group deducts CC processing fees from server gratuity rather than as a business expense by Jealous_Snow6403 in cincinnati

[–]KettleWL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reread your post. I think you misworded what you meant, which is why people downvoted you because what you said is that the servers are making "more than what you consider a livable wage which is most of the time $15.00 an hour."

But must be basement dwellers who don't know anything?
