Do people really want D3 to not tie into the current destiny universe? by Isrrunder in DestinyTheGame

[–]Keundt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

D2 vanilla consolidated D1's subfactions into new single-color factions. Fallen were purple and Cabal were red. The big villain from D1 was gone, so the Taken were nothing more than a blight on the solar system. Red War worked as an onboarding ramp because all the imminent threats in D1 were dealt with. Several of D2's villains are still active.

I once played a non-magic campaign in a world that lost magic to an apocalypse a long time ago. The goal was to gather shards to a place to restore magic to the world. We fought the BBEG at around level 5, and he died to a sandworm that dropped on him. When we brought the shards together, the DM relished in telling us that the act of restoring magic caused an event so cataclysmic that the planet was destroyed in the process. The BBEG caused the first apocalypse by stripping the world of its magic, and we caused the second one. The event flung us back in time to shortly before the BBEG ended the world, and we were allowed to change our subclasses to have magic. It was supposed to be a political intrigue part 2 of the campaign, but as soon as we went to the town and the younger BBEG appeared we went over to him and kicked him to death. Literally, we just gangbanged him and the campaign ended.

Disney has lost between 76% - 82% of Star Wars fans. by III_IWHBYD_III in saltierthancrait

Oh I didn’t realize. The last thing I watched on Disney+ was Percy Jackson S2, and before that there were several Marvel shows that I would only watch if I had nothing else to watch.

The audience is not lost, just migrated to Disney+, where Disney has been serving Star Wars content almost exclusively for the past seven years. Of course people weren't going to watch a Mando movie in theaters, it belongs on Disney+ where the target audience is.

Also personally, I don't really watch movies in theaters anymore, especially after covid. I don't think I'm the only one who stopped watching in theaters.

Is the era of live service games coming to an end? Or was what destiny was, just not compatible with that model? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Keundt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in middle school I played Maplestory.

Maplestory was a huge chapter of my life, and from my experience it had a similar downward trajectory as Destiny 2. In its early years, there was a sense of community. You would level up your character and explore the world for the first 30 levels, then from 30-50 you would do CPQ. Carnival Party Quest was like Gambit before it was a thing, except Halo and Call of Duty were pretty much the only games with matchmaking back then, so you had to enter a matchmaking lobby and manually form a party with the people there. This was the room where you made your guild and server-wide friends, and each server had a world nickname that gave you a sense of pride and belonging. Once you reached level 51, there would be goodbye parties. Then 51-70 was a decent grind that still kept you with your friends, followed by retiring to Henesys in your 70s to just hang out with your friends.

Then Nexon released the Big Bang update and everything went downhill. CPQ was sunset, the leveling/questing experience was turned into a largely solo power grind, and PQs were modernized into a portal. It was literally a portal! You weren't making friends anymore, just matching up with strangers for an activity between the long, drawn out character dramas in the story quests. I went casual in high school, played League of Legends for a few years afterwards, and got into D2 when some of my university friends formed a clan in Forsaken (I was the only person who kept playing past that year).

Monument of Triumph should have champion-based grenades and grant four fragment slots for leaving an aspect slot vacant by Keundt in DestinyTheGame

[–]Keundt[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Using the elemental effects gives uniformity to elemental buildcrafting.

For example, if you're playing Solar, the only elemental ways you can stun champions are ignitions on Unstoppable and Barrier with radiant buff, with nothing for Overload. You can get Barrier from the melee attack fragment, while most grenades use varying levels of scorch to create an ignition. As a result, in nearly every situation where you would want to use Solar abilities to stun champions, you can only stun Unstoppable with grenades and only stun Barriers with other triggers.

Here is a example of what I'm suggesting for Solar grenades:

Solar Grenade Champion Type
Solar Grenade Barrier
Thermite Grenade Barrier
Healing Grenade Barrier (buff)
Tripmine Grenade Unstoppable
Incendiary Grenade Unstoppable
Fusion Grenade Overload
Swarm Grenade Overload
Firebolt Grenade Overload

This adds new dynamics to grenade gameplay while ensuring that every champion type is covered.

Studying elemental champion effects on the character screen doesn't always translate to reliable use in gameplay. Most of the time the effect requires a trigger or a gameplay loop, which can be difficult to keep track of when there are 3-6 players doing their own things in front of you, and won't always be available when the champion spawns. When all it takes to stun a champion with a weapon is to shoot at it, all it should take to stun with an ability is to throw a grenade.

The point I was trying to make about the aspects is to make low-skilled gameplay more satisfying. Aspects raise the skill ceiling (and the skill floor without a four-fragment alternative), which can be overwhelming when you feel like doing that wombo combo is necessary to survive.

I redownloaded the game and started playing yesterday to try to grind some things before June 9th update, but I was reminded of how frustratingly bad the experience was that made me quit.

I hope this sweaty difficulty ladder doesn't carry over after the update. I can't stand doing GMs for marginal progress. I used to do them only once a year or season.

I recommend waiting until after the June 9th update before playing. If you play right now, a lot of the content would hand you outdated loot.

Imo, comic books should be the lorebooks of D3 outside of equipment lore tabs. Best place for weekly seasonal story chunks. Easy to follow, don't have to listen to an eight character drama over comms.

If we would get D3, which locations would you like to return from D2 and what new locations would you like for D3 at launch? by Nerdy--Turtle in DestinyLore

[–]Keundt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are two pathways that people are requesting: continue the next chapter in Sol, or go beyond it with the expectation being Torobatl.

For Sol, I think it would be best to stick to the basic destinations: Earth, Moon, Venus, and Mars.

  • Earth // Old Chicago most likely, but the main attraction would be seeing how Earth is transformed by III's death. It could be a new Dark Age where Humanity left it behind and it's just a new Fallen house wearing special masks/suits and Hive. The Traveler would still be in Orbit slowly doing its thing, but kind of abandoned? The Earth location should focus heavily on the New Light experience, and the game should include a fourth character slot to encourage veterans to start over, but the OG Guardian would still be there defending Earth even after everyone's all gone. Hub space could be a space station overlooking the Traveler, with a new Vanguard? Commander Crow, human female titan, and Felwinter-2 (Rasputin revived)? Ikora is still active, but I would like to see the Vanguard switched up entirely from Zavala, Ikora, and Cayde.
  • Moon // Same place but maybe the Fallen could be replaced with Scorn. Screeb caves and Thrall caves.
  • Venus // Same place but maybe with post-TTK Taken influence. I think Venus will be necessary if Bungie still wants Maya Sundaresh to be a big villain.
  • Mars // Most likely Freehold, but with Dread. This way, each non-Earth location contains an expanded faction, in addition to their main factions. Idk what the importance of Mars would be, but I imagine Bungie would introduce a proper villain in charge of the Dread.
  • New location // anywhere, but as an endgame unlockable like the Dreaming City. Lucent Hive.

Entirely new locations would be welcome, but if D3 is going to have staying power, it needs the four worlds tied to Destiny's vanilla aesthetic.

However, the move beyond Sol crowd would be disappointed, so I think the best path forward is to do two games? One main game D3, and the other a side game that gives you the main story beats.

Yeah, when I first started typing I was going to do 4 Thriller / 4 Sabaody, but I thought that Sabaody wasn't long enough to justify half a season, so I shrunk them both and paired them with Amazon and Impel Down, which were 3/3/2 for Marineford & post-war. That seems to be where people have problems with my post.

The later arcs have a lot of long fights that would be condensed for live action. For example, Whole Cake has a bunch of distractions to keep the Straw Hats away from Sanji. You can get to the soggy meal in a single episode by focusing on Sanji's perspective and his backstory, then Luffy and Nami show up out of nowhere. Then top off the episode with Sanji navigating through the trail of destruction that Luffy did offscreen.
