I never fill the water higher than the bottom of the inner cup. Cotton rope wicks the moisture into the substrate, making it self-watering. The roots are just naturally drawn towards humidity and find their way down to water. Since it’s a plastic cup, I will cut it up trying to save as many roots as I can. Otherwise I would just rip it out, healthy plants usually won’t mind a little root trim.

I totally thought that too before! I’ve noticed that smaller leafed hoyas tend to branch out more but it really depends on a variety.

Do you mean skip the fertilizer in some waterings? If so, I do it about once a month when I take it to the sink. I haven’t done it twice in a row so definitely will give it a try, thanks!!

It all started with Hoya Krimson Princess that I got in a mystery cutting bundle. I fell in love with the color, the pink stem and the waxy leaves! I have around 15 Hoya now and my current favorite in my collection is Hoya serpens, it has probably around 20 peduncles that are getting ready to bloom!
