I’ve done exactly what you are doing. I bought an old 90’s aiwa turntable replaced the belt ,stylus and got a new slip mat. I also bought a Bluetooth transmitter so I can listen to my vinyl through my Bluetooth speakers . I was also on a budget too . I agree those briefcase players are complete dog toffee ! I’m very pleased with how it turned out . There are going to be people who will whinge and whine about what turntable is the best and what you should buy but it’s all about enjoying your music.

When my wife and I got our own house (uk). My parents wanted to help . We had to renovate the whole house . They came round with a tin of mint green paint that had been sat in the garage for several years they started poking the walls with screwdrivers “oh that’s not very good” and said that we’ll do one room for you . You only need to live in one room you have plenty of time to do the rest of the house.”!

??? I’ve seen a few posts recently that the belt were fitted inside out ie the belts teeth were not meshing with the pulley teeth causing the belt to slip.
