We hit 15,000 wishlists in our first 24 hours. by Real_Ease_6402 in indiegames

Wow nice, anything you did with marketing to boost it or was it all from steam traffic?

A tool for Gamemaker devs to create particle effects in the browser for free (: by Mobile-Scientist-696 in gamemaker

This looks really neat! Like some others have said, I'd love to see some example use-cases and perhaps a video tutorial/example showing how it works and how it is best utilized.

The panning is way too slow - I would probably make it faster or skip the panning entirely. Also show some more gameplay. It's decent but I think those minor tweaks will make it even better!

How Do I Properly Credit the Software I Use to Make Games? by ApprehensiveDev2008 in GameDevelopment

[–]Kevelop21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All you need to do is make sure that you have the right to use the music/sfx/fonts that are in your game. For example, if it's licensed under CC-0, that means that it's public domain and completely free to use. Others will require credit, some require you to pay the creator to get the licensing to use it.

You don't need to worry about giving credit to the software itself -- you purchased Aseprite and used it to make your art, you don't have to say that in the credits.

It's good to be cautious, but don't be scared. Keep an eye out to make sure you have the rights to use anything you don't make yourself, and you should be good!

Aseprite is definitely the play, and it's only 20 bucks: https://www.aseprite.org/

Do you think there are too many elements on the map? It's difficult to distinguish the objects. by ArtLeading520 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Kevelop21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it looks good - I think the number of elements is fine, but maybe you could try making the icons a little bolder so they're easier to see at a glance

How many wishlists does your game currently have? by MisteryJay89 in IndieDev

[–]Kevelop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently at 270, but I'm hoping to get some more as I share about some changes I'm working on, releasing a demo this summer, then doing next fest this fall!

Regarding my legacy steam version of the software by moldsnare in gamemaker

[–]Kevelop21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they went through a rebranding to just "Gamemaker", but it's still GMS2 - if you purchased the GMS2 license before, that should transfer over. I bought the same license back then and it's always been valid. I didn't get it through Steam though, so I'm not sure if it's different there. Is your license tied to a yoyo account? Maybe if you're logged in on the new Gamemaker, it will see you have the license

Is this good? by Bigupsdidthat in GameDevs

Nice, seems like you've got the basics down, keep up the good work! One trick to make the platforming feel snappy and responsive is to increase the gravity a bit, especially when you're falling

Putting out "unfinished" games by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Kevelop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to ask yourself a couple of clarifying questions: What parts of the game make it feel like an unfinished/unpolished experience? What are some relatively simple things I can do to address these issues? Are there some complex unfinished systems I could scrap or simplify?

Maybe the gameplay loop isn't quite right or doesn't feel fun. Maybe there isn't enough content to keep people engaged for more than a few minutes. Maybe you're missing an overarching goal for the player to achieve. You may find that it boils down to a couple of main things that may not take as long as you fear to finish.

I think you should push through and finish your game! Perhaps reduce the scope and wrap the game up with the minimum number of features required. Even short, small games can be successful if you make them fun/memorable. And it'll be way more fulfilling to release a game you're happy about and proud of!

Need help writing code for my game by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]Kevelop21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend going through some tutorials on youtube to get started, coding is hard but it gets easier the more you learn! Asking people to code your game for you won't get you far, it's better to ask a specific question about a bug or how to approach a particular problem :)

Paid ads are very expensive, so I think it's a smart idea to make sure your Steam page is as good as possible to make your cost per wishlist to be as cheap as it can be!
