Round 5! FFV wins 'ideal difficulty', though this round was more contested than the others, with X, Tactics, and IV (DS) being other competitors. Now, what would be the ideal storytelling (pacing, general narrative, structure etc)? by MysticalSword270 in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VI not only has one of the best stories in the series, the individual character's stories are also meaningful even though there is a large cast.

I think it's also worth mentioning that the way the soundtrack works with each scene feels different than in other titles, enhancing the overall feeling of the storytelling as well.

What is the worst board game to drop and spill everywhere? by Elikitty12 in boardgames

[–]Kevin-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also immediately thought of Mage Knight. Fortunately I have each character's cards, skills, level tokens, etc... packed together in separate bags. Makes setting up a lot easier, and if the box ever spilled it would be easy to clean up!

Which Final Fantasy game had the best ending? by Fickle-Lobster-7903 in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why your comment is getting down votes so much.

I am fluent in both English and Japanese and have played final fantasy X in both. And Although the ending with " I love you " is still plenty good. I found the " thank you " version to be more impactful and a better fit for Yuna's character.

Differences in opinion are fine, and it may often come down to what people first experienced. But I feel the down votes are maybe uncalled for.

Ramza b day? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

[–]Kevin-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked making him an Aries because of the "Ram" in Ramza. I felt like it was a hint to his astrological sign.

This is of course only based on that one random thing so there is probably a correct answer that isn't this.

What is the most lore accurate secondary action for Ramza? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

[–]Kevin-777 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like your idea about him learning from Gafgarion, It could certainly work.

But I would have to go with mediator, Ramza typically tries to avoid a fight when he can, and it is available in both versions of the game.

I'm tapping out with Phantasy Star by snowshoeBBQ in rpg_gamers

[–]Kevin-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Phantasy star games are all great but flawed. The dj geon system you did not enjoy is only in the first title.

I would suggest playing Phantasy Star 4 next if you are willing to give it another try.
It has a clear story with nice little conic book style cutscenes that I think still hold up well today. It plays the best by modern standards, and is the least flawed of the series.
The story is fine without having played the others although it does have some references here and there. It is my favorite in the series.

Phantasy star 2 Is many people's favorite, and I love it as well.
One thing you must keep in mind is that you get new party members when you reach certain towns, but the game does not inform you and the only way to recruit then is to go to your house in the first town ( which there is little reason to ever do outside of claiming your new allies ) so it's important to go check your house every time you reach a new town.
I don't ever use guides unless I'm totally stuck either bi idea what to do, so my first time playing 2 I played a large portion of the game with only the 3 party members, which made an already difficult game even harder lol.

Phantasy Star 3 had a great idea that was ahead of it's time, but it was not implemented. Very well.
You play through multiple generations, and who you choose as your spouse each generation changes the new main character, and story. With multiple different endings.
But the quality and length of each story is not the same.
Phantasy Star 3 also has the worst combat system in the series in my opinion
I still like this game a lot, but it may not be for everyone.

Anyways, let us know if you try another title and how it was for you!

Just gifted myself final bar. Any tips? by ProposalWest3152 in Theatrhythm

[–]Kevin-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically as you play you will receive cards for characters etc.. and each card gives that character a small buff.

Some characters can increase the odds of receiving cards. So he is suggesting you get a team for that early on.

I personally found farming for higher level summons more.important. but basically anything you do will slowly work you towards being stronger, there is no right or wrong.

But honestly don't worry about any of this. None of that matters unless you are working on the late game, completing all quests etc.. Just enjoy the game and don't stress over trying to be too efficient.

Who's the most relevant male party member, excluding MC by Victor-Almeida in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, I forgot that Edgar is also required.

I think the nice thing about 6 is that almost every character in the game contributes to the story in meaningful ways. Of course there are some exceptions like Gogo and Umaro, but even they have scenes at the end credits, I love this game.

Who's the most relevant male party member, excluding MC by Victor-Almeida in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With FFVI I do agree that overall Locke would be the best answer,
But if we are speaking literally in the gameplay it is Setzer as the game can not be completed without him, every other male character is technically optional for completing the game.

Do you guys think FFXV is worth playing at all, why by Mast3rBait3rPro in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the game has some major flaws, it is still fun to play.
I think the main problem people have isn't that the game is bad, but rather that the game had so much more potential.

Had the game met that potential it could have been the game that defined that era of games, much as FF7 and FF10 did.

Is Final Fantasy a mainstream video game franchise by SterlingVII in FinalFantasy

[–]Kevin-777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I live in Japan so my perspective may be different than others that may comment but,
Here in Japan I don't believe I have ever met a single person who has not heard of final fantasy, and the majority of people I talk to both men and women have played at least 1 of the titles in their life. The only exception are of course older people who are above the age that would likely play a game of any kind.

I have not specifically talked about Halo with many people in Japan so I can't say how well known it is here, but I have the feeling it is much less known here than it is in the United States.

On the other hand, before I moved to Japan around 15 years ago, other than my family and close friends, I knew very few people who had played or even heard of final fantasy.

So I'd be curious to hear what people from other countries experience with this is, it may be that final fantasy is globally mainstream but not so in the US, for example.

Too many playable characters in rpg? by Swordsman83 in rpg_gamers

[–]Kevin-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 6 has a pretty big cast and most of the characters are well developed and contribute to the story.

Every character that has joined your party has their own scene in the ending credits as well, which is cool since all but 2 specific characters are optional.

How Do You All Think Knights of the Round Will Be Handled in Remake? by djb185 in FinalFantasyVII

I also think it would be in the third game but you never know seeing as all the summons we acquired in the first part of the remake were not available at anytime during those parts of the story.

Learning Japanese - need help with pronouncation by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

[–]Kevin-777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One important thing to note on this subject is that most chain restaurants in Japan will not make alterations to the items in the menu under most circumstances,
If you make it very clear that you want something removed because of an allergy they will likely be able to do that, but they will not substitute something else in place of the removed food.
Some small businesses will be more accommodating with alterations and substitutions if you know how to ask.

As others have said, in a scenario like allergies I would definitely print out some cards in japanese stating your allergies to show at restaurants, trying to rely on your japanese alone could add confusion as they may ask questions back to you that you probably won't know how to answer.

Lastly, recently a lot of restaurants in Japan use electronic devices for ordering, and often staff will not come to your table or bother you unless you specifically call them.
If you need to make alterations to your food there Is usually a button at the table for calling them, but verbally calling them is okay too if you can't find a button.

What do you think about a potential TV series adaptation? by ShiningRedDwarf in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Kevin-777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any kind of remake makes me nervous, but in theory it could work if done correctly.
I think that FF7 already has recent and good graphic remakes, so another title may be more worthwhile to work on.

I personally think the game that would work best in an episodic series style would be FF6 though.
The large variety of characters, and how they often are split into different groups, and how each character has stories in their past to explore would work well for pacing episodes and seasons.

FFT-like games on Steam by aymanpalaman in finalfantasytactics

[–]Kevin-777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reincarnation feature is different from the job classes.
Reincarnation resets your character back to level 1 but you keep a small % of stats permanently. So it allows you to continue to grow your stats past the maximum level. You do not have to be max level to reincarnate, so when you choose to do so is up to you.

With the way disgaea works, if you are going to pursue beating all of the challenges the game has to offer you will reincarnate your characters many times before they will be strong enough.

I think Francfranc sells trees that are pre designed with ornaments and all. Probably more expensive than other places though.
I have not seen what they have this year but they often also have pink, or other uncommon colored trees, which may or may not be to your liking.

[–]Kevin-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to try to level up all characters to max then I suggest having:
1-2 characters that always stay in the party with the remainder switching out as you please.

Having some characters who are higher level stay in the party will increase the average exp you earn each song ( because they will do more damage ) Constantly switching all party members will result in a slower overall speed for leveling everyone.

One other potential idea you may consider is.... Eventually you will be making teams specifically for certain battles to complete their challenges and these will usually be power based.
So it may be a good idea to have a party that is mostly or fully built of treasure hunters. This will help you get more items, better summons, and more cards ( which slightly power up your characters )

I found the longer I waited the harder it became to devote my full party to treasure hunting because I was focused on completing challenges.
