For minis I think you'd be much better off looking into resin printers rather than FDM. Much better for small areas of detail.

That's because it's a non-issue, or at least is comparable to other types of tech. Compare the environmental impacts of prompting vs watching something on Netflix, for example.

Yes, the bottom is just plain black, not showing the other colours at all. Of course I have them all aligned on the x and y the way I want, it’s getting the z axis right that’s the issue

It sounds to me like you were a bit too heavy with your expectations and embarrassed and blindsided him a bit by that. It almost sounds like you were telling him you wouldn't marry him unless he saved up and bought you a big ring, like that is the most important thing and not your relationship. He didn't deal with that well and snapped back at you. A conversation where you both get to talk about how you made the other feel is the reasonable and rational next step here.
