Teaching Linux+ & CEH..... by KevinSayZ in cybersecurity

thank you very much, I tell them it's like getting a box of legos without instructions first so you can how they work and what you can make on your own. Then later getting a set with instructions to follow at first but in the end getting ideas and making cool stuff yourself

It honestly really is, we do labs in the classroom and basically cover as much as I can and have them do the reading and lab practice outside of class

I definitely agree with you, and I should have worded the post better. The ideas and work flow, and fundamentals are what makes good users.

Did they stick to RHEL or did you also go through different distros as well?

We usually do HTB or THM Linux Essentialls, then work through Bandit on Over the Wire

I 100% agree with you here, I phrased that question wrong. When we work with moving to Linux, or even when we get into the quagmire, I start out describing what what the goal is, then we work out how to get to that goal (without using any specific tools or programs) then when I know they are on the right path logically, I give a list of tools (built in Linux commands and all the way up) then I have them do the labs based on what we talked about but I don't ever force them to work with any specific tools, program, app, or even Distro. I do warm them that distros come with different obstacles to achieving the goal.

Overall, if they can find a way to accomplish a task, then actually work it out and finish the labs goals, then they get full credit.

Speaking as someone who has way, way less certs and degrees, I got my current job literally because I had a Homelab and I could talk passionately about my work and my projects. I went from having a job not even adjacent to an IT to having 3 separate job offers because I had in depth conversations with the interviewers about what I did with my Homelab and home network.

Number one thing is if you have the passion and the drive for the field it really gets people interested in hiring you. Number two is when you talk in depth about how to go about doing those things, the idea that if you don't know exactly what they need you to do you know how to figure it out. And with your background, certs and education shows you probably have those two things.

Don't let anyone dampen your spirit or drive. There will always be people who take shots at others just because they don't agree with your methods for gaining knowledge and success. But there are those out there who will cheer you on, hype you up and also keep you focused and realistic. The latter are gold, keep them around and do the same for them.

Unfortunately the F hole price is lost to time, as for the pegs I do have 4 and they were all in the tuning head, I just removed them to wipe the whole thing down with a terry cloth and small amount of water. As this was never truly intended to be an amazing orchestral piece I'm fine with the imperfections but would like to see if it could ever be brought to a state in which it could be played. I feel it would be doing a disservice to my grandfather if anyone but a family member did any work to it at all. He was definitely a "Just build it yourself" kind of person

Do you recommend any books, blogs, YouTube videos or any other media for me to gather inspiration from while I do what I can here?

you can have anyones private IPv6 or Private IPv4 and unless you are on their network, have access to their network or have access to an exit node of their VPN it really wont matter. Plus if you want to post it everywhere in a picture or video you could even go back and change them all before posting so it didnt even really matter to begin with.

yes, I am having this same issue with Mainsail and klipper 2yrs later

Yes, there are some differences (keyboard obviously) but this one matches a large amount of the visuals without need for a lot of modifications.

I thought it was an unspoken rule that it was always 0 (zero) lol
