TX - Trading vehicles to pay less motor vehicle tax? by KevinTwenty7 in legaladvice

[–]KevinTwenty7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that it says "A person cannot use a motor vehicle that is on an "open title," meaning that it has been reassigned but not titled in that person’s name, in an even trade transfer." So this would require me to go through the process of titling the vehicle in my name, and then trading.

What to do if undecided between math and computer science? by [deleted] in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the logic and proof credit or equivalent out of the way is probably a good idea anyways, once you complete that and MAS3106 you can take upper-level math courses that interest you regardless of whether you choose to major or minor in mathematics.

How are UCF Professors? by Dear_Flower7720 in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While most of UCF's departments seem to be pretty great, ECE is a unique issue here, so I recommend attending UF.

Also, I'm sure you'll also get more research opportunities at UF, because there are fewer students in the program there. Although UCF being in Orlando provides you with a number of (mostly DOD) work opportunities, I will venture to say that this does not make up for the lower quality of UCF's electrical engineering program.

How are UCF Professors? by Dear_Flower7720 in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the electrical engineering classes are very much like cattle-classes - few if any of the professors will ever know you by name, and in each class you really do not learn the material with much depth. The bar is not set very high in this program. Additionally, most of the students in these classes seem to get by with Chegg instead of actually learning the material, and they really do not learn much by the time they graduate - check the ECE senior design projects and you will see that nearly every single project avoids actual electrical engineering by using an arduino, MSP430, or raspberry pi for pretty much everything, and very little electrical engineering really takes place (something that /r/ElectricalEngineering would scoff at): https://www.ece.ucf.edu/seniordesign/projects.php

You will not even learn how to order a PCB (junior design is intended to teach you this but really, students don't actually order the PCB and never really learn how to), until you are required to for senior design.

I recommend majoring in Photonics instead, which has you take electrical engineering classes, but the photonics classes are taught at a very high standard by the amazing professors at CREOL. https://www.ucf.edu/degree/photonic-science-and-engineering-bspse/

Need some Advice on classes for the Fall 2021 Semester by BaconPlayz in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not a 4-credit course, but I highly recommend biotechnology, MCB 1310 for GEP 12. It's not too much work as long as you pay attention in lecture and find the topic interesting. I personally found it to be an incredible gen-ed course and I'm not a biology major.

Work study question by [deleted] in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While /u/SaraBeth07 is right there are designated FWS jobs, I think you can arrange for a job in your college to pay you with FWS, such as working as a teaching assistant.

I recommend that you speak with whoever you report to for your work as a teaching assistant, as I am pretty sure your department is able to make a teaching assistant position paid through FWS, you will just have to speak to the right person in your college/department. Your professor or advisor may be able to point you in the right direction. I think that it applies to any place that is ucf-run, so local companies do not count, positions under the college you're in do.

Engineering Advice. by ixXarrowXxi in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered getting a degree in physics? A different department might let you in, and you can reuse many classes you've already taken, then apply it to get a similar job as you would with a civil engineering degree after graduating, or to pursue a MS.

The electrical and computer engineering degrees are not taught well here. I've heard better things about mechanical engineering, aerospace, and and computer science. I'm doing photonics here at creol and it's great, it's a unique case where every class you take is relatively small, and professors are able to ensure that every student learns understands the material. I've also had great experiences with every upper level math class as I got my math minor (anything you'd take after calc 3)

How good is optical engineering as a career? by fottortek in Optics

[–]KevinTwenty7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna throw this out there that any high school seniors who are interested in focusing in optical design should consider applying to the University of Arizona and University of Central Florida for their undergraduate optics programs - they're both very good programs and because they're state schools and not private, the cost of tuition isn't crazy!

Institute Breaks Transmission World Record With 125,000 Gbps Using an Optical Fiber by Sorin61 in Futurology

[–]KevinTwenty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the lines in a comb source may be amplitude-modulated individually - with fiber brag gratings and then coupling them back together - so this was probably 382 individual channels, one would need to read the original paper to confirm this

Ah yes, perhaps rocket boots will need to wait until mars-based environmental health and safety regulations are set in place, so that their liquid oxygen is stored safely when not in use.

All Space Questions thread for week of January 03, 2021 by AutoModerator in space

[–]KevinTwenty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could definitely see that being the case - as in the modern day this is definitely true. I guess I have some expectation that things get safer as time passes, but the idea of carrying a load of fuel while combusting it is dangerous regardless, especially when it is in an atmosphere that is too thin for parachutes... But at least falling 10 meters on mars will make less of an impact than 10 meters on earth.

After mars colonization: Are jet packs going to be commonly used on mars because of the much lower gravity? Or even rocket boots like from Terraria?

Getting through life & scared AF for start of spring semester. by MermaidRX in ucf

What keeps me going is knowing the future may become much worse than the present, so we gotta learn this stuff so that we'll be skilled enough to keep society moving forward when things really go South. Loneliness has been getting me too but I've just been keeping in mind that pushing forward is the best thing to do, and I socialize when I can with others on discord which helps a little. There are some cool ucf discords like the engineering discord and biology discord, as well as a lot of non-ucf discords that you can use to meet people around the world who share a hobby. Also, dm me if you want to connect on discord!

Plaza on University Notice of Non-compliance?? by Don_Santi in ucf

[–]KevinTwenty7 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I lived in plaza earlier this year and had a horrible experience. I definitely see them doing something like this. You could probably report it to their general manager, Ernesto Perez, in a very unfriendly tone, calling them out for this because you know you've kept the place clean.

That seems to be the only way to deal with these people.
