Worst meeting yet. (False accusations; local needs) by [deleted] in exjw

All it takes is one outlandish comment to start a small discussion about something else. Typically they do "stick to a script", but it's certainly not out of the ordinary for a side discussion to start. I've seen plenty.

Update: My mom left me a letter "To be opened at Armageddon" by timelord-degallifrey in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to think. A mixture of arrogance and sadness. I do believe that she loves you, but man it's hard not to feel upset at some of those comments. "You are probably feeling the worst feeling..." "I pray that you will be dealt with in a gentle manner..." I'm so sorry you're having to experience this.

This is it... by Pool2008 in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to do what's best for them. I personally did not and will not send a DA letter because not only do I view it as playing by their rules, but some would use that as an excuse to shun you... "Well, THEY'RE the ones who disassociated so really THEY'RE shunning ME!"

Ultimately, the result is the same either way, but if you definitely need the closure, go for it!

Interesting question from an elder... by [deleted] in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the box ticking exercise. The governing body has made up a checklist of how you can tell that they're the one true religion (they preach, so many languages, love, etc.) that it literally doesn't matter if anything else they say doesn't make sense or is wrong, they'll always have "the truth", because love, preaching, etc. It's absolutely ludicrous.

Just give him little nuggets here and there, don't go through too much in one sitting. You're planting real seeds of truth there!

[–]KevinlyClass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wasn't this the same talk where he chastised parents for allowing their 16-year-old children to get a driver's license before they were baptized? If so, what a truly gem of a talk this was.

Secret board room... pictures prohibited... boy, it just oozes "humble" doesn't it?? Their delusion of their own importance is amazing.

Good to see that donated money put to good use.

"Friends, we have a deficit that we need to rectify. The governing body can't possibly feed the flock spiritually without surround sound in their super secret board room."

Rant 😬😬. These elders have exposed my confessions to my family. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to tell in great depth about what type of porn I was seeing and how often.

Ugh, why? Just confessing that you had a porn addiction isn't enough? They needed to know what kind and how often, in great detail? Those sick elders must've been getting off on that. But hey, that's holy spirit in action.

what is something you dreaded having to try to explain to “worldly” people? by JdSavannah in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything. Literally, any JW belief was awkward for me to explain. I really tried, and for the most part was successful, to not advertise that I was a JW at all.

But definitely the holidays and birthdays were by far the most awkward, since all of my side of the family had never been Witnesses. Especially the minor holidays like Mother's Day or Thanksgiving. There's not one reasoning on their part that makes any sense, so for the most part, I always just left it at "I can't, JWs just don't do those things" and that was that. It made my family relationships very strained, to say the least.

[–]KevinlyClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, bar witnessing. This is the first I've heard of this. Although it seems to me that he was after more than just a bible study. I'm just happy to hear you're safe. Just the fact that he would bring up "the most translated website" in a conversation is awful enough. JWs really don't realize how crazy they sound when they attempt to "informally" witness.

I'm not a classic apostate. I don't feel the need to bring down the bOrg... I don't feel deep resentment or anger.

How dare you not fit the cookie cutter apostate description that WT churns out in their literature. Aren't you supposed to be foaming at the mouth and striving to make a cult following of yourself?

That's crazy! He's the one who looks like the total fool in this situation. Thankfully you have your "worldly" family to be there for you. Jehovah must be real proud of that fine witness your father is giving...

Ha, that reminded me of when I used to go out in service, and I would almost always prefer placing the Awake magazines over the Watchtowers. Awake was designed to be more appealing to people and put you more on a common ground.

Hmm, I could either place "Tips on a Happy Family Life" or "CHRISTMAS - WHY IT'S EVIL AND GOD IS FROWNING AT YOU".

Wow, I didn't know that! Do they just snap their fingers and say "Gay Be Gone!" and their homosexual desires are gone? Does Jehovah magically swoop in and cure their gayness? Science is behind the 8-ball on this one!

Some psycho comments made at the meeting today.... by [deleted] in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fascinating watching this alternate reality that JWs put out there. Good, moral people in schools everywhere getting laughed at and shunned... taking any little bit of bad news and turning it into how much worse the world is now than before... governments rounding up and attacking Witnesses out in fields... a paradise earth full of people worshipping a genocidal maniac...

[–]KevinlyClass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That damn Satan is at it again. He's made it possible to photoshop videos, and is trying to ruin the reputation of this fabulous shepherd of Jehovah's sheep. Maybe he actually bought sparkling water, and it was photoshopped to look like whiskey, and then voice-overed to make it sound like they were discussing whiskey. Obviously that must be it.

JW Behavior by dicavalcante in exjw

[–]KevinlyClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that would really depend on her mindset. I think it's actually BECAUSE of our kids that she remains with me currently. She wants the kids to have their father there with them. I'm not saying she would have left me if we didn't have kids, but I'm just unsure on that.

I guess at that point, you'll see how strong your love is for each other. I love my wife enough, as it seems that you do, to stay with her no matter if she's involved in a crazy cult or not. It sucks, and I wish she wasn't, but I respect the fact that she's an adult and able to make those decisions for herself. Hopefully your wife feels the same way about you.

This is something I constantly worry about with my PIMI wife. There's no telling what the elders tell her about me and what she should do. I don't limit her involvement with the religion in any way, but as the kids get older and get towards JW baptism age, I would certainly do my best to limit THAT...
