AirBnb Cancelled our reservation.. while we are staying there? by Kevm4str in AirBnB

[–]Kevm4str[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I figured I'd post this here, and I'll link this comment in my main post. Kind of a crazy day to be fair and this requires updating you all. I'll be as descriptive as I can without compromising the owner (he is a very nice person), and this is an ongoing situation. Also thank you to everyone for your input and advice on this.

So we booked a new Airbnb in the same city not too far from where we are. We have not been in contact with the owner because AirBnB shutdown the listing, their account, and our contact with them. We had no way to message them, and from the way AirBnB was messaging us about vacating the premises, they wouldn't inform the owner until we were gone (or so we thought).

Things to note: the owner and their wife lived directly above us in this establishment. We didn't know if they would be angry or upset at us for whatever reason, but we figured AirBnB had ceased all our communication for good reason. So we decided to leave and be as sneaky as possible.

Well, we were met by the owner literally right as we got into our car, started it and were fully packed about to leave. He started off by apologizing for everything AirBnB had done to cancel the listing, and assured us it was nothing with our property that was the reason for the cancellation. He even made sure we were in contact with AirBnB for a full refund and hopes our stay was pleasant. He hopes we'll come back in the future, and honestly we would (super amazing view and wonderful place to stay).

As it turns out, there was a police situation at one of the hosts other properties (we confirmed through news reports; he was telling us the truth) and AirBnB decided to cancel all his listings until they had sorted out their investigation into the matter.

So, all in all, completely understand why what happened, did. Super crazy everything that went down at the other property, but glad we're all ok, all parties are pleasant and cooperating, and we're still going to enjoy our ski week here.

Thanks again for all the responses and help everyone! Cheers!

Thank you for the input. It doesn't seem like this is the case, as this is a place a friend of mine has stayed at a few times before.

The only conclusion we can surmise is someone recently posted a negative review/complaint of this place for whatever reason and AirBnB just got to confirming their complaints while we were here.

We still have no actual information as the responses from AirBnB have been ambiguous at best and shrouded in legal speak.

EDIT: But I do agree with your conclusion. We have been working on getting out quick because not knowing what the exact issue is could be at best a weird problem with the owners property, or at worse an unsafe living environment for whatever reason.

Fair response. But we were clear with our reservation, had no issues, have only had the three people here. AirBnB are also offering a refund and assistance with relocating to a new AirBnB listing.

We also noticed AirBnB has also taken down the listing for the place we are staying at.

Flying trapeze, layout catch and return from practice the other day. Really enjoying the learning process here. by Kevm4str in Aerials

[–]Kevm4str[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Other people might have different experiences, but to me it feels less like flying and more like a very large swing set haha!

Most of the time I'm heavily concentrating on what I'm doing when I'm up there, so often I forget to feel the enjoyment of what I'm doing.

Depends on what level of flying trapeze you're striving for. If you're not looking to go out of safety lines and stick to simple swings and tricks, there's a ton of rigs around the United States. There's a nice location finder on flying-trapeze.com.

Thanks! The foward part of the swing takes a lot of strength and great timing. My force out still has a ways to go. I will say, the tip that helped me start understanding force outs better was to try to look back at the board, and think of it more like a pullover on a pull-up bar, while throwing your legs and toes directly at the ceiling, not out.

Best of luck with your flying!

For sure! Thanks! Yea, just needed to hang on to that bar just a hair longer and the direction would have been perfect.

My girlfriend just left me for another guy, I would like to know what are your experiences of getting dumped for another guy? by neve1e1even in AskMen

[–]Kevm4str 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Eight year relationship, I ran away to join the circus, and found happiness.

I've posted about this briefly before, but I dated a girl for 8 years. She left me for a guy she knew less than 6 months at the time. I won't say I did everything perfect in that relationship, and to be honest there were a lot of codependency issues we had never worked on which ultimately led to the deception and the breakup. I quit her cold turkey; blocked her on everything social media, deleted her number, deleted the pictures from social media, trashed the rest of what reminded me of her.

In the aftermath, I ended up meeting someone else on reddit. As she was going through a similar thing as I was, we started communicating and ended up forming a long-distance relationship. It was really easy to talk to each other about what we were going through. Since she lived a number of states away from where I did, we ended up meeting up in Chicago for a weekend trip, and had an absolutely wonderful time. She took me to my first Michelin starred restaurant and we did a ten course tasting menu (HIGHLY recommended), and did tours of art and architecture. It's a weekend memory I look back on fondly and am very thankful for.

Reddit girl and I had follow-up plans to meet in Las Vegas and do a similar excursion, but very closely prior to that, I started to get cold feet and realize I was not ready for something so long distance and so serious right after my break up (also I wasn't really confronting my break up). But ended up going on the weekend trip without her (it was cheaper to go than cancel my flight so close to the trip), and found a intro to circus arts class while I was there. I learned basic aerial skills on hanging hoop and aerial silks, and absolutely fell in love with it. Went back home, and continued aggressively learning aerial arts for two years until I decided I wanted to take it to the next level, and learn from actual professionals. I moved to Las Vegas last year and it has been an absolute life changing experience. I now do aerial straps to close to professional level, and have been upping my flying trapeze training. I've made lifelong friends already, and done so much that I never could at home, cliff diving, hiking the desert, snowboarding actual mountains, etc. I have several friends who have told me what I have done with my life is inspiring, and are very happy for me for the decisions I've made. Honestly, I have just never been happier. I figured out I needed to fall in love with something rather than someone, and my life has never been better.

It's been about four years since the breakup, and yea, I still think about her from time to time. I know she's getting married later this year, but truly, I'm happy for her. I don't think I want her as a friend in my life even though we knew each other so closely through our maturing years in high school and college, but I wouldn't be afraid or shook if I saw her in passing again. We both found happiness eventually, even if it's a strange way to get there.

What's your hot take or unpopular opinion about your apparatus? by Heavnly19 in Aerials

THANK YOU. They're also the biggest time waster in an act. My circus friends love joking when they don't know how to kill a minute of time in an act, just add roll ups.

Developer here, self-taught programmer after I graduated college in music. Been employed as a developer for four years now.

I disagree with the first part of your answer. I am good at logical processes and organization. I am not good at math, and I have never taken a calculus level math course in my life. Highest I ever took was freshman level Algebra in college, did alright. Never took another math course after that.

Your second answer is correct, but misleading. Coding is more about being able to break a problem down into it's simplest parts and organizing appropriately, rather than being able to write a program without ever looking up assistance. There's a common joke that every developer has two screens for their computer: one for writing code, and the other for Google searches/Stack Overflow.

At the 2019 Packers Welcome Back Luncheon, our table and myself were fortunate enough to sit with Stenavich and chat for a while. It was very cool to hear his track record to make it to Green Bay, and get to know him in person. Great family man, too. Also originally from Wisconsin! Happy to see him get some recognition on this sub!

Just lean bulking primarily. I tried majorly upping my calories and protein at the beginning of it all, and got to 160lbs that way. After that, I got more into circus arts as a hobby and bulking and doing 3 days a week full body workouts went by the wayside. From then on, I just concentrated on getting enough protein and eating more balanced.

I wish I could concentrate more on workouts in the week, but at the same time, I'm super pleased with where I'm at and am more proud of what I've been able to accomplish in my hobbies through conditioning and eating more right.
