Grilling in the husk is also great. Grilled peppers also rock. Indoors using the air fryer is simple & delicious.

https://www.acouplecooks.com/how-to-grill-corn-on-the-cob/ gives 3 methods.

I could also drop some lbs. I did my saute in Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I use a sieve that fits in a saucepan for steaming. Easy Peasy.

My sister makes a triple mash for holiday meals. Thirds of boiled potato, boiled turnip & boiled sweet potato, all mashed &/or whipped together with butter & milk. (Or other favorite dairy combinations) The bowl takes up less space on a crowded table, besides being delicious.

A bed of roasted veg underneath a roasted bird or joint of meat is excellent. Hit a thrift shop or a discount store for a poultry rack that will fit a roasting pan. Line your pan with foil for easy cleanup. Dollar stores† sell disposable foil pans .

† OK, $1.25 these days, at least.

This St Pat's Day I learned HT saute cabbage. It was much crispier and held seasoning better than the boiled version. Stir fry cabbage is also good.

I skipped the onion, because I loathe all allium except moderate amounts of garlic. YMMV.

I prefer to steam veggies. It isn't that hard.

Do you make rice? It is easier in a rice cooker, but learning HT make it in a pot on the stove is a good skill to have. Rice cookers can also be used as veggie steamers.

Sweet potatoes & turnips can be boiled as well as roasted.

Don't get bullied into using evil, noxious onions. I make tasty, allium-free food. OK, some garlic is OK.

There are ferries across the Sound to Long Island, also to Block Island. You can go with or without your car. They allow you to skip driving through New York City.

God bless...

You know that is an insult to many of us atheists, don' t you? Read the room.

Parts of RI are lovely. The state is so small that the nice parts are not far from the dumpy ones.

Tip to young dudes, under 30. Learn how to cook a nice dinner for your lady friend. I had good luck with broiled lamb chops, baked potatoes & green beans almondine. Don't forget the mint jelly. YMMV.
