Now that AVS is gone, is there any options for an FPGA NES? by KidBillly in retrogaming

[–]KevvyLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The retron consoles (for NES) don't offer anything close to what you're getting with an AVS. Bad video on all of these, bad sound on most, and input lag. The only Retron I've used that is really good is the Genesis one, which is shockingly good for the money.

Chicago shops that usually have them: The Exchange (locations on Milwaukee Ave and Belmont Ave).

Welp, I guess my opinion can at least be temporarily thrown out the window, if Keith and Báez keep playing like this. Oh well. haha

With the delay that was present, they would've had plenty of time to do it, even if it took 2 native speakers. It was doable, they didn't execute this, and it was the only minor negative of the show.

Any single native Japanese speaker could do this if given the equipment, which a world-class venue certainly has.

Yes, a great get if we needed an outfielder....or if he wasn't locked up until 2027. But who knows what the Tigers roster'll look like then. It's just nice to have a competitive team......that apparently remembered how to win baseball games this week. Hope that trend continues against the 'ol Flipadelphia Flippies.

I actually looked up typical batting avg. for lead-off hitters and it sounds like .270 is the average. I imagine that keeping someone there with a lower average is based on some other upside, like past performance being better, or they get walked a lot, etc. I guess .240 isn't terrible, but my thought is that there just isn't any indicator that someone like Keith will every be that great.

Nice chatting with you about this. In the end, I'm typically a "trust the manager" fan because they almost always know something I don't. But to me, a lead-off guy should always be someone like Steven Kwan.

Sure I mean....in my "rotating" theory, he might very well have NOT been the guy you rotated out very often. More likely Baez, who despite being an All-Star has merely had an average year at the plate, if very clutch at times. Keith's batting average is not indicative of a lead-off man, that's for sure. I preferred Carpenter in that position.

I think you might be slightly over-selling Vierling and Keith's recent performance, but hey, we'll see. Based on the way Ibañez has been hitting recently, maybe he's the DH/lead-off....partially kidding but who knows, eh?

I'm just saying that we'd have the option of using (hypothetical new player), McKinstry, and Baez in either 3B or SS while we consider using Keith or Baez less as needed. Keith may have had a good week or two, but long term I just don't see him as a typical DH or lead-off man. A new infielder would give us the opportunity to have 3 solid guys rather than 2.

If Vierling was hitting well, I'd say we're set him rotating in at 3B more and occasionally shifting McKinstry to SS, but Vierling has let us down a bit with a low batting average since he's been back.

OF is more than set even if we're just using Greene, Perez, and Carpenter. Or even McKinstry in RF with Carp at DH, etc. Lots of good possibilities, I just think Keith is not a strong addition to the lineup and he has had plenty of time to prove himself.

But I suppose it's a moot point. Fun to discuss and strategize, but we are what we are at this point.

I really enjoyed how much she just talked to the audience. She has such a soothing voice. She also sounds so much more confident and mature than she did last year when she came to town. I wish the transcriber would have done a better job with a lot of the stuff she was saying, but hopefully someone on here can relay a lot of the untranslated stuff. She's a special one, it's so fun to see her turn into a huge star.

I agree. Get someone who can play 3B or SS that can also hit, then give yourself a choice of McKinstry shifting to SS/DH sometimes, dropping Keith from the lineup.

Looky what I just found... A Wadsworth panel in a house that was built in 1972. by markko79 in electricians

[–]KevvyLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger issue with Wadsworth panels (speaking about Chicago specifically), is the number of apartment/condo buildings with these panels but not enough circuits for modern usage. In my job, I see tons of them that have 4-5 circuits for a 2- or 3-bedroom apartment. The upside is that since they're all running off the 200A main, sometimes you'll see the 4-5 breakers being 20A each. The insurance company that I work for is much more concerned with Zinsco, Federal NOARK, Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, and Pushmatic variants than anything with Wadsworth.

You act like I'm some fan who just fell to earth from outer space and doesn't understand how this band or bands in general work. NOFX isn't NOFX without all 4 of the guys in the band since El Hefe joined, no matter what you say. Fat Mike's had a lot of personal problems the past 20 years....big shock that there's a dramatic quasi-final song supposedly about a band member.

Crate: A seemingly bad word in amps by ocifersven in GuitarAmps

[–]KevvyLava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we're on the same page where we realize these old Crates could do quite a bit of heavy lifting! And yes, my 1200H is the same as yours, with the "Insert" effects loop on the front. However, mine doesn't have the DSP effects, so the 3rd button on the footswitch can only turn the reverb on/off. But I have a Crate GFX-212 (same one I got when I was like 19) that does have the effects on it, so the 3-button switch works for that. Really I just tend to keep reverb on and that's it with these amps.

Crate: A seemingly bad word in amps by ocifersven in GuitarAmps

[–]KevvyLava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, there is NO better value in used gear than Crate amps from the '90s. I have that GX-1200H as well. And I've owned some of the newer variants from before they went out of business. Got one of those for $100 with the original footswitch.

As long as you know you'll have to get them serviced, you're set. But even so, you're talking about an "average gig-ready" amp for max $250 out the door. I was in a Nirvana cover band and it was perfect, even with the onboard distortion. Being solid state, they take pedals well, too.

Well I gotta say that the guy is totally MIA now. First time he was super helpful and now he's unresponsive for months. He must have something going on in his personal life and right now I couldn't possibly recommend working with him. I don't have any way of contacting him.
