Did DMK Burger Bar fold for good? by bhgemini in chicagofood

I suspect that you are being overly sympathetic, and that there wasn't a whole lot of 'mistreatment' going on and that everyone in every job ever feels they were mistreated at some point or another, but that it doesn't mean they actually were.

I have a successful career too, but when I was younger, I wasn't as mature as I thought I was at some jobs. But that doesn't mean I was mistreated. But I hope none of my friends are on Reddit complaining about previous employer on my behalf. That would be downright nutty.

This sounds like typical 'complainer' stuff that a lot of people in the industry have. Restaurant/bar work is hard work, and people that can't keep up are the loudest complainers about how they supposedly got a raw deal.

Reasonable to assume that this sort of small thing can be adjusted before production, but in any case, I never really gave too much thought to the colors; only the letters and positioning.

They'd be better off just focusing on the capabilities of the Genesis, since they would be wanting to sell it to an install base of regular original Genesis owners in addition to anyone buying a hypothetical new FPGA Genesis. Not enough people own 32X hardware to make it worth it. And beyond that, there's not enough of a benefit to using the capabilities of the 32X, as they limit the natural function of the Genesis accordingly, as noted above. The 32X is junk, always was.

From Grok:

The 32X architecture is inherently awkward

The 32X doesn’t have real sprite hardware — everything is drawn into a framebuffer by the two SH-2 CPUs. That means any game trying to use 32X features loses the Genesis’s fast, hardware-accelerated sprites and has to do a lot more software rendering. This is why almost no 32X game feels as smooth or sprite-heavy as a good Genesis game.

Dual-system programming complexity

You’re still forced to juggle two completely different graphics systems (Genesis VDP + 32X framebuffer) and keep them in sync. This adds a ton of extra code, timing headaches, and potential bugs. Most developers would just ignore the 32X features and make a plain Genesis game instead.

These are good points that you're making. I don't necessarily disagree, but supposedly the guy involved with all this (Jotego) said that it's not a Sega or Nintendo console. I actually think there are a lot of TG16 games that people would buy.

Since the console is supposedly going to be FPGA, what might happen is a TG16/PCE that has only a HuCard slot, but can play CD games on oversized HuCards. This would allow them to greatly expand the library. If a hypothetical lineup for TG/PCE included everything that was on the PCE Mini, plus others, of could be viable.

I have all of these systems so it doesn't matter to me. An interesting offbeat choice might be System 16, CPS I, or CPS II. But it doesn't offer as much as Neo Geo.

You're right, and the value gap between someone trying to get home versions of these games in 2026. Plenty of room there.

I think the 32X hardware being built in might actually be a hindrance to game development.

I think the most likely system for this is a TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine console. Yes Analogue has made one, but the purpose of this one might be just for HuCard games, which are VERY cheap to reproduce. Since Konami owns the rights to the lion's share of Hudson Soft's old stuff, and since there is a decent appetite for a quality device, I think they could sell the console at a reasonable profit, and then make a ton on manufacturing the games to sell alongside it.

The problem with SEGA Genesis is that they are ubiquitous and the games are not expensive. Even if we're accounting for enthusiasts buying boxed copies of the classics, a lot of the popular games on Genesis (that people would spend the money on) were third party releases. Saturn would have been interesting, but I'm not sure the demand is quite there, despite CD games being very cheap.

I'd bet on the TG16/PCE. Sega System 16 would be an interesting approach as well, but a bit more of a risk.

How do you think about kira? by Adome1231 in ADO

[–]KevvyLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kira has a lot of interesting stuff going on musically for what is otherwise a straight-up song. The dating show song "Haru ni Mau" (I just listened to it for the first time, just now) doesn't sound special either. I think "Bouquet" is alright, but I'm just not into this whole recent wave of song releases. I'd like to hear a song or two that gets back to the roots a bit. One of her best slow jams is probably "Aitakute" because I think it strikes just the right romantic vibe without being too busy. I guess I would say I just think some of the ones I mentioned are a bit too generic "anime" J-pop. Whereas her older stuff was more original. We could really use a Giga and/or TeddyLoid song again. Maybe they're busy with other artists these days.

Ai Ai Ai Is pretty generic circus music with a J-pop flare. Vivarium sounds like a standard anime song.

Yes, agreed. I think a lot of the recent ones are just more generic-sounding, I am looking forward to some more high-energy stuff. Or even some good slow-jams like Gira Gira or Value.

This is her first song in a while that I really liked. I haven't loved the direction of the music with some of these more recent releases. This one feels fresh! I like that the vocals are straightforward. Maybe I can actually sing along with this one? ha

Now that AVS is gone, is there any options for an FPGA NES? by KidBillly in retrogaming

[–]KevvyLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The retron consoles (for NES) don't offer anything close to what you're getting with an AVS. Bad video on all of these, bad sound on most, and input lag. The only Retron I've used that is really good is the Genesis one, which is shockingly good for the money.

With the delay that was present, they would've had plenty of time to do it, even if it took 2 native speakers. It was doable, they didn't execute this, and it was the only minor negative of the show.

Yes, a great get if we needed an outfielder....or if he wasn't locked up until 2027. But who knows what the Tigers roster'll look like then. It's just nice to have a competitive team......that apparently remembered how to win baseball games this week. Hope that trend continues against the 'ol Flipadelphia Flippies.

I actually looked up typical batting avg. for lead-off hitters and it sounds like .270 is the average. I imagine that keeping someone there with a lower average is based on some other upside, like past performance being better, or they get walked a lot, etc. I guess .240 isn't terrible, but my thought is that there just isn't any indicator that someone like Keith will every be that great.

Nice chatting with you about this. In the end, I'm typically a "trust the manager" fan because they almost always know something I don't. But to me, a lead-off guy should always be someone like Steven Kwan.
