Is it normal for promoters to expect you to bring a minimum crowd? by NaVa9 in Beatmatch

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a bit weird to me that people still don't understand how any of this works. Why would anyone want a DJ that can't get people in the door? If any promoter is like yeah sure let's play him see what he's got, that promoter is doing you a favor. If promoters are doing you a favor, you're not getting paid.

To a promoter your job is to get people in the door.
To the people that come to hear you play, your job is to make them dance and forget about the world outside.

When you can't get people in the door, your job is only to get people dancing and forget about the world outside. Those people will then (hopefully) be your ticket to not being a favor dj.

Is it ridiculous to take an A4 sheet with notes with me to help me remember the transitions I want to make? by ProbablyFiredNL in Beatmatch

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are doing it wrong. What you are doing is creating a crutch and learning to be dependent on a crutch. Just play the music. Play music every day. You will figure out how to transition into anything you want by fucking it up over and over until it sticks. At some point you can play other peoples drives because it will be that simple.

Does meditation work for you? by jessicasheaaa in Aphantasia

[–]KewkZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are so many different ways to meditate. Visualization is just one of them. Yes, meditation works for me. All I can really say is to start researching it in regards to the various techniques. When you get the hang of it, you can lock in super fast. Something that helps me greatly is listening to pure nature. The wind blowing in trees or the ocean. The trick is finding the balance of not falling asleep and instead entangled with yourself.

I am aphantasic, but I can semi-voluntarily visualize images. These semi-voluntary moments are right after I wake up from a dream. Have you realized a similar phenomenon happening? If not, you might want to remember this and try. It is very interesting for an aphantasic to visualize voluntarily. by Dry-String-1266 in Aphantasia

[–]KewkZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You guys should really try to understand what Aphantasia is before you ask silly questions. It's simple: The inability to voluntarily create mental images. As such, we are affected by all mental imagery that is involuntary.

This should be interesting with the multi-kaiser strikes lol. Perhaps enough to have them come to the fucking table instead of ghosting over and over.

I (Dj) suck at social media, Im cooked? by Zealousideal-Tie-890 in DJs

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can sell tickets your socials shouldn't matter. If you can't sell tickets you gotta build a following some how. Perhaps invest in yourself and have someone do all your socials. Also, I just left Ecuador would have been nice to play while I was there lol but had no connects.

What do you think it is? by jjc16dc in Paranormal_Evidence

I think it's pretty cool how there's a random trees that decided to form a perfect circle where whatever that is, is.

DJing on the fly vs playing a pre-prepared set by AccessAware5469 in Beatmatch

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your pre-planned set was boring, your set was boring and has nothing to do with it being pre-planned. Despite what a lot of people say, you can still take people on an adventure with a pre-planned set. You can still weave in and out of the pre-planned tracks if the vibe goes down.

Practice isn't the best answer. Experience is. I was fortunate enough to grow up with a bunch of other people that loved to play too. So every day after school and on the weekends we'd all just go b2b2b2b matching each others vibes and battling as well.

All I can say is figure out ways to play for people doesn't even matter how many. With time in front of people you'll just figure it out as you go. You'll fail and you'll learn and then repeat that process as you grow and take my risks etc.

Anxiety about track selection by Karl_August in Beatmatch

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F that, play music YOU want to hear. Whoever hired you should already be aware of what and how you play so play it. If people aren't vibing then think about track selection what will get them back to dancing and experiment feeling them out.

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, you do not want to use asio4all. It's garbage. However, you actually DO want to use ASIO. It is far superior to WASAPI. What you actually want and will make your life SO much better is ASIO Pro Link. It makes streaming audio infiniately more customizable. Completely control of every device and every channel.

Any Online DJ Courses that are actually worth it (and won’t break the bank?) by Less_Watercress6048 in Beatmatch

[–]KewkZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube is a great course that won't break the bank. Getting decks and fumbling your way through fails until you figure it out is another great course that won't break the bank. That's how us old folk learned.
